William said lightly, “Why else? We are the ones who hit her. It’s a given that we need to take care of her well. Or we would be in trouble if anything serious happens, wouldn’t we?”
“That’s all?” Marcus pressed.
“If not what else?” William glanced at Marcus wryly. Marcus stroked his own head while thinking that something didn’t seem right. But he couldn’t figure out what.
A car then drove towards them and stopped beside them. Bobby opened the door and got out of the car. “Mr. Howard!”
William smiled as he saw Bobby and turned to Marcus. “I will leave first with Bobby. Please bring the car for repairs.”
Marcus agreed to it and watched as William got into Bobby’s car. The car then drove off very soon. Marcus was about to leave when the policeman in charge of this incident came over.
After the policeman greeted Marcus politely, Marcus asked about the incident, “How’s the investigation going? Do you know who she is?”
The policeman shook his head and said, “We still don’t know who she is. We have already announced for assistance. We hope that anyone who recognizes the victim would come forward and contact us.”
“Have you found out the cause of the accident? Why did she suddenly rush onto the roads?” Marcus asked again.
“I was just about to inform you about this. We looked at the security footage and determined that the accident had nothing to do with you. The injured woman ran onto the roads because she was chased by some people. When they saw that she was hit, the two men who were chasing after her left the scene immediately.”
“Is that so? Have you found out who the people chasing after she are?” Marcus asked.
The policeman shook his head and said, “We can’t find them. The two men were wearing masks and hats. We can’t see their appearances clearly, and this has hindered our investigations.”
“Is that so? Then we can only wait until the patient wakes up.”
Bobby only found out that William had been in an accident after arriving at the hospital. He was in shock and glanced at William as he was driving. “Are you alright, Mr. Howard?”
“I’m fine,” William replied briefly.
“Mr. Howard, who was that woman? Is she trying to blackmail us?”
“She is in a coma now, and we don’t know who she is. We should be able to find out her identity when she wakes up tomorrow. We will leave it to the police to investigate whether she is trying to blackmail us. I trust that the results will be out soon.”
Since this incident was something that the other party was fully responsible for, and she wasn’t someone they knew, William could have gotten his subordinates to deal with this. He did not need to wait at the hospital for such a long time.
Bobby felt that William’s behavior was a little strange. “Why did you go to the hospital? You could have left this incident to Assistant Field. You didn’t need to wait at the hospital.”
William smiled and said, “I had nothing better to do, so I went to have a look.”
“You had nothing better to do? Weren’t you going to meet with some guests?”
Bobby looked at William in the rear-view mirror again in confusion. “Mr. Howard, is there something wrong with the woman in the hospital?”
“She is a little strange.” William hesitated before asking Bobby, “If someone who had supposedly died reappeared again in your life, what do you think the reason would be?”
“A dead person reappearing? Do you think a person can be resurrected?” Bobby chuckled. “My first instinct would be there must be something fishy going on. The person must be planning something with malicious intentions. I would keep my guard up against her.”
“I think so too. But if this person had done you a favor and you’ve had feelings for her, will you still be wary of her?”
“Yes!” Bobby answered with certainty.
A message notification then appeared on William’s phone. William held up his phone and scrolled through the message.
Jaxon was the one who sent him the message. He had sent a photo of a young woman who resembled the woman in the hospital.
Jaxon’s text also came in. “Mr. Howard, this is the photo of the woman who saved Bobby. I have only managed to find this one photo.”
William sighed softly. As soon as he saw the injured woman’s face, he felt familiar. Soon, he thought of Bobby.
That was why he followed her to the hospital. The woman had disappeared suddenly back then and never came back. Now she had reappeared in such a strange way. William couldn’t help but overthink this.
Bobby had feelings for this woman, which could be seen as he was still single for so many years.
This was what William was most worried about. He was not afraid of the woman using tricks on him but worried for Bobby.
Bobby had accompanied him for so many years, and he would willingly sacrifice himself for William.
The relationship between him and Bobby was not that of a master and a servant, but brothers. He didn’t want to see Bobby hurt by anyone, no one at all!
He had to let this matter slide for the meantime and not tell Bobby about it. He had to find out what she was up to first.
In the luxurious living room of her mansion, Evelyn sat absent-mindedly on the sofa while staring at her phone.
Finally, her phone rang. She grabbed it and answered, “How is it going?”
“Everything is going according to your instructions. She was hit by William’s car and has been sent to the hospital.”
“That’s great! They didn’t sense something wrong, did they?” Although Evelyn was happy, she was still a little worried.
“No, William personally followed her to the hospital. He stayed there until she was pushed out of the emergency room.”
“Did you guys go to the hospital too? Who told you guys to go? It would be terrible if William were to find out. I’m telling you, William is very perceptive.”
“They won’t find out. We were in full disguise when we were chasing her. No one would be able to see our faces. We even changed our clothes when we went to the hospital. No one would find out that we were involved in this.”
Evelyn heaved a sigh of relief. Since William had followed to the hospital, could it be that his bodyguard recognized Jacelyn?
It seemed that this bodyguard still had feelings for Jacelyn. If things were to proceed like this, everything would go smoothly.
Evelyn was in a good mood and asked, “That bodyguard must have recognized Jacelyn. Was he anxious?”
“There were no bodyguards. The man who was driving was William’s assistant, Marcus.”
“What? The driver isn’t the bodyguard?” Evelyn raised her voice.
“Yes, it was not the bodyguard who drove, but Marcus. Marcus was the one who accompanied William to the hospital. I saw the two of them waiting in the hospital clearly.”
“Isn’t this different from my plan? If it’s not the bodyguard who was driving, why did you guys carry out the plan?”
“We thought it was the bodyguard driving. We have been waiting for several days, but we have never had a chance. The bodyguard has exceptional driving skills. We didn’t have the chance to create the accident.”
“So you’re going to blackmail Marcus instead? You fools!” Evelyn cursed angrily.
