Chapter 1518 I Couldn’t Help Even If I Wanted To

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

At 11 o’clock at night, Raymond’s car stopped outside the villa. He sat in it for a few minutes before he thought of the excuse he was going to use later. Then only he got out of the car.
As he walked through the courtyard, he could see that the lights in the living room of the villa were on. He tiptoed to the door of the living room and poked his head in. Before he could see the situation in the living room clearly, someone spanked his buttocks.
Natalie sounded really angry. “I’ve asked you to go on a blind date tonight. Why didn’t you go? Are you ignoring my words?”
Natalie questioned Raymond several times as she spanked him again. He sprang aside in an attempt to dodge her hands and said, “Mom! Ouch, it really hurts! Let’s talk about it!”
“I did want to talk to you, but did you listen? Can you explain the reason you didn’t go on the blind date tonight to me?”
“That’s right! Why don’t you go to the blind date, brat?” Gavin questioned with a stern look as he walked outside as well.
“I already went there…”
“How can you still lie to my face?” Archer flicked his finger at Raymond’s forehead from behind.
“That’s not it… why are you so violent? You have to at least listen to my explanation before you hit me. I did go there, but my car broke down on the way. I was late for more than two hours. When I got there, the girl was already gone.”
“Did the car really break down?” Gavin asked.
“It really broke down. It is still in the factory for repair now. You can look into it if you don’t believe me.” Raymond took out a note from his pocket in a hurry. “Look, here’s the record from the factory…”
“Brat, how dare you lie to me repeatedly? You deserve to be spanked!” Gavin initially felt sorry for Raymond, but now he didn’t bother to defend the latter anymore.
“I’m not lying… Ouch, mom! I’m already an adult. Why did you still hit me? This is against the law!”
After being hit a few more times, he turned tail and fled. Natalie’s voice rang out from behind. “How dare you lie to us that the car broke down. Let me tell you, we know everything that happened in the bar tonight.”
“How did you know that I was in the bar?” Raymond stopped and asked after he put some distance in between them.
“It’s a piece of cake to find out where you are, isn’t it? I’m telling you, come inside and tell me everything honestly, or you’ll be punished severely.”
Naturally, Raymond wouldn’t be stupid enough to go inside and explain himself. He knew that William wouldn’t introduce him to any nice girl, so he didn’t go on the blind date. He even found an excuse for it, but he didn’t know that William was already prepared for his excuse.
Natalie was a good-natured person, but even she couldn’t help but hit Raymond. Things would definitely go bad for him if he stayed and explained everything. It was best that he fled the scene straight away.
Raymond turned around decisively and strode away. After getting into the car, he heard Gavin call out to him. “Raymond, you’d better apologize to your parents and make things clear. Otherwise, you won’t have a place to stay after you leave.”
Archer let out a sneer. “Let him leave! Let’s see where he can go without money. Let me remind you that hotels will not accept you as their guest. You should give up.”
“If there’s nowhere to go, can’t I die then?” Raymond started the car and went straight to Andrew’s house.
He called Andrew at the door and the latter picked up the call. “Raymond, it’s not that I don’t want to let you stay, it’s that I can’t. My uncle has already informed me in advance. If I dare to take you in, he will surely make me pay dearly, won’t he? Even if he doesn’t punish me, my grandfather will make me answer to him as well. Please take good care of yourself.”
“Who would even know that I’m staying at your place? Will you die if you let me in for one night? I’m telling you, Andrew. I helped you last time when we were abroad!” Raymond was exasperated and anxious.
Andrew heaved a sigh. “I can’t help you even if I want to!”
Raymond said viciously, “Can you lend me some money since you won’t take me in?”
Andrew turned him down again. “I can’t do that today. I would hate to get myself into trouble.”
“It’s true that people are cruel and indifferent! I won’t help you in the future if you are in trouble.”
Andrew laughed heartily. “I don’t have to look for you if I’m in trouble. My uncle will help me out. To be honest, Raymond, what were you thinking, provoking my grandfather and uncle? My grandfather is perfectly capable of teaching you an unforgettable lesson. Do you have a death wish? How can you provoke two of them at once?”
“Get lost!” Raymond cursed angrily before he hung up the phone. Then he called Richard and Michael. Neither of them answered his call.
It seemed that William had warned those two as well. Raymond was now backed into a corner. No one could help him. It was obvious that he would be driven out of a hotel even if he went there.
Raymond couldn’t afford to lose face like this, being kicked out of a hotel in public. It seemed that the only choice was to stay in the car tonight and then come up with something tomorrow.
At seven o’clock in the morning, the doctor brought the nurse with him for a ward round.
The blood pressure of the young woman who was transferred to the hospital was normal. Her heartbeat was normal as well. The doctor listened to the fetal heartbeat as well. Everything was normal for the baby.
The doctor stored the equipment with ease. When he saw that the woman was staring at him fixedly, he asked her gently, “Do you have any discomfort?”
“I feel weak and dizzy,” she replied.
“That’s because you have been in a coma for too long. Don’t worry. As long as you recuperate for a while, a gradual recovery is certain.”
The woman watched as the doctor packed up his things and prepared to leave. She called out to him out of the blue, “Who am I?”
The doctor shook his head in response. “Um… I’m sorry, but we don’t know who you are as well. You were sent here by Mr. Floyd.”
“Who is Mr. Floyd?” she asked again.
“Mr. Floyd…” The doctor didn’t know how to explain this to her. At that moment, the door of the ward was pushed open and a tall man entered.
The doctor heaved a sigh of relief. “Mr. Floyd, you’re here!”
The man nodded as he walked to the bed. He looked at the woman on the bed with a gentle look in his eyes. “Are you feeling better?”
“Yep! Are you Mr. Floyd?” the woman asked.
“Yes, I’m Leonard Floyd,” The man said his full name.
“Leonard?” The woman frowned, as if she wanted to source this name in her memories. However, nothing came up after a while. A pained look appeared on her face.
Leonard’s tone was soft and gentle. “Don’t think about it if you can’t remember.”
“I need to think about it… I don’t want to be someone who doesn’t know a thing.”
“Your loss of memory is only temporary! You were seriously wounded. Your memory has been affected due to the injury, so you can’t remember many things. Don’t worry, I’ll ask them to cure you.”
The woman looked at the man in front of her, who was staring at her gently. He was handsome and looked harmless, but she had a feeling that he was strange for some reason.
She was inexplicably afraid so she asked him, “Do you know who I am?”
“I do!” Leonard replied.
“Who am I? Why am I injured? Why am I here? Where is my family? Why don’t they come and visit me?” she fired a few questions impatiently.
Leonard motioned for the doctor and nurse to leave. He watched them close the door before he sat down beside the bed. “I only found out about your identity after some investigations. Your name is Abbie Clark! You’re the eldest daughter of the Hattelo Group back in your country. Your parents are good people. You have a brother named Richard as well, who is a powerful elite.”
