Francis had never thought that Michael would bring a woman to have dinner with him.
Most importantly, this woman was not his girlfriend. Instead, she was his mistress.
It was obvious that Michael didn’t want to have anything to do with the Gurney family since he brought such a woman to attend dinner.
Francis was both embarrassed and angry, but he couldn’t express his frustration.
Evelyn heaved a sigh of relief when she saw Michael bring a woman with him. She thought of countless ways to deal with him when she arrived at the restaurant. Now, she knew that she did not need any of her previous plans since Michael had brought a woman with him.
Evelyn let go of her arrogance and aloofness since her mood improved tremendously. She invited Anastasia to have a seat warmly.
“Ms. Baker, right? I’ve watched your videos. You did well.”
“Thank you!” Evelyn didn’t put on any airs at all as she took the opportunity to chat with Anastasia. The latter was flattered and thanked her gratefully.
Francis knew what was on Evelyn’s mind when he saw her attitude towards Anastasia. However, he couldn’t afford to lose his temper. He could only suppress his displeasure as he talk to Michael.
“Have a seat, Michael!”
Michael sat down with a smile. He was secretly surprised as well when he saw that Evelyn was here with Francis.
Why would Francis bring Evelyn to see him? Was he thinking what he was thinking?
That couldn’t be, could it? He had no interest in getting involved with the Gurney family.
As he thought to himself, he decided that he would be treating Anastasia well by placing some food on her plate during dinner time. This was to express his intention clearly to Francis.
Anastasia didn’t understand what Michael was doing. Evelyn was exceptionally nice to her while Michael treated her well as well. Hence, she thought that Michael actually had feelings for her.
She was in a great mood so she put some dishes in Michael’s plate as well.
Anastasia had done some investigations on Michael, so she knew his preferences. The dishes she picked for him were all his favorite. His smile remained unchanged, but there was a coldness in his eyes as he looked at her.
He was only putting on a show when he asked her to attend the dinner with him. He had no other intentions. If she had other ulterior motives, she’d better get lost as soon as possible.
Since they had failed to achieve the purpose of this dinner, dinnertime ended hastily.
Francis appeared polite as he left with Evelyn with an impassive face. After getting in the car, he glared at her and said, “How can you be nice to that slut?”
“Grandpa, I’m just… I’m just…” Evelyn couldn’t come up with a reasonable explanation after stuttering for a long time.
Francis sneered but he did not say anything else. He ordered Frederick. “Let’s go!”
On the other hand, Michael slowly got into the car. Anastasia followed him into the car with a smile.
Michael looked at her face and sneered. “You seem to be in a good mood, don’t you?”
Upon hearing the coldness in his tone, her smile froze. She was at a loss of how to answer the question.
Michael sneered and his facial expression turned cold instantly. “I will ask someone to transfer the money to you later. Our deal ends from now on!”
Upon hearing this, Anastasia couldn’t help but ask, “Why? What did I do wrong?”
“What do you think?” Michael looked at her coldly. “I hate women who are nosy the most. You’re the only woman around me. If you don’t understand your place, get out of here as soon as possible. I can get plenty of women if I want. Why do I need someone like you?”
His words were cruel and straight to the point. Anastasia felt as if someone had poured a bucket of ice water on her burning heart.
Did Michael see through her mind?
“How did he find out?” She panicked and immediately recalled what she had done tonight.
She didn’t do anything excessive other than serving food for him, so was that the reason he guessed what she was planning.
Michael was too smart! Anastasia knew that once he chased her away, she would never get the chance to be close to him.
She had to find a way to explain herself so that Michael would believe that she was not interested in him.
At present, the best way to do that was to prove that she had no interest in Michael. Her brain was working through possible solutions at high speed, and she came up with a plan in an instant.
There was a look of grievances and unhappiness on her face. “Michael, what are you saying? Do you think I like you? Do you want to marry you? Aren’t you overthinking it?”
“Am I overthinking?” Michael asked coldly.
“Yes, that’s right! I knew my place very well from the beginning. I knew that there is a stark difference between us, so I warned myself not to have any indecent thoughts about you. To tell you the truth, I promised to pretend to be your mistress is because of money. I need money desperately. I know what you are unhappy about. It’s because I placed your favorite dishes on your plate tonight, so you mistakenly thought that I had put in a lot of effort to get close to you. You thought I was trying to get on your good side so that I could marry you in the end. Isn’t this right?”
“Am I wrong?” Michael narrowed his eyes as he asked lightly.
“Of course not. I just do this because of my duty. I know my profession and my place. In order to make everyone believe that we are indeed lovers, I tried my best to understand your taste and preferences so as not to be found out by others. That’s all.”
Anastasia looked like she was wronged. “If you fire me just because of this, it’s too unfair for me. The choice is in your hands now. I’m just someone hired by you. Do you want to continue to hire me, or do you want me to get out of here? But Michael, I can tell you that it’s hard to find someone like me, who has no feelings for you but is willing to put on an act with you after you fire me.”
Michael was silent for a moment after hearing her words. Was he wrong? Did she really have no feelings for him?
When he recalled her performance in front of him during this period of time, it seemed that she was only doing her duty. At least the very least, she had never crossed the line.
Michael thought for a moment before he said lightly, “Well, since you don’t have such thoughts, I’ll offer you a chance. Remember my words and do your job properly. Don’t think about what that’s not yours, understand?”
“Don’t worry! I will do my best to fulfill my duty. I will never have any improper thoughts.”
Anastasia was relieved that Michael had let her off the hook. It was such a close call!
After what happened today, she was entirely sure that Michael didn’t like her at all.
She had once been pursued by many men in the past, so she had always thought that she could make a person fall in love with her by relying on her wisdom and beauty. Now that her tactics had failed on Michael, she could not help but feel a little discouraged.
However, she had no intention of giving up. After all, she always obtained what she wanted in the end.
Michael was not interested in her now, but that did not mean that he would not be interested in her in the future. She did not believe that he would be oblivious to her attractiveness in the long run.
