William was shocked when he saw the ownership papers of the villa. “This is too expensive…”
“It’s not expensive at all. Just a little token of appreciation from us. Keep it for Valeria please.”
“Thank you, grandma!” William accepted the gift gratefully.
“You should have informed me, your grandfather and uncle earlier. This way, we can accompany Valeria in the hospital.”
“Oh, grandma, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you. However, I didn’t get to tell you because it happened too suddenly.” William told her briefly about Valeria’s premature labor.
The blood drained from Deborah’s face. “Was Thomas the one who hung out with Valeria? Does that mean that he wants to harm us? Why would he even do that?”
“It’s not Thomas! I’ve already asked Bobby to ask Thomas about it. He said that he lost his mobile phone. I believe that Thomas is not the kind of person who would do something like this. Perhaps someone else is manipulating him.”
“Do we have any suspect yet?” asked Deborah.
“So far, no.” William shook his head in response.
“We must investigate the matter thoroughly. The person behind this is such a malicious snake! Thank God Valeria and the two children are safe. Otherwise, I can’t even imagine the dire consequences. We must find out who is behind this! Otherwise, I suspect that she will continue to hurt us.”
“Okay, I’ll take extra care.” William glanced at his watch and said, “It’s twelve o’clock. Grandma, you should go back with Grandpa and uncle now. I’ll send my father and father-in-law back too. Meanwhile, I’ll accompany Valeria here with my mother-in-law and the carer. You guys can come back and see Valeria tomorrow.”
“Okay!” Deborah knew that it was too late and that the patient needed to rest since it was quite late. She bade farewell to Fandrey and Callum before she left.
Gavin and Archer left with her as they missed Raymond very much. However, Hayden didn’t leave immediately. He nagged on and on for a while, instructing the carer to take good care of his precious grandson.
The carer was amused by his long-winded words. “Don’t worry, Mr. Howard. We will do our best!”
“Great, I’ll be off then! William, take good care of Valeria. I’ll be back tomorrow morning.”
The room finally quieted down after everyone left. The two carers were taking care of the children outside the room. Natalie was there too. “William, you must be tired. Go and have some rest.”
“Okay.” William didn’t refuse her suggestion. He went back to the room and closed the door. Then he walked to the bed and held Valeria, who was fast asleep, in his arms.
Valeria was sound asleep with the IV drip on her arms. William kissed her on the face several times.
He wasn’t sleepy at all, so he sat up and grabbed his mobile phone to send a message to Bobby. “How’s the investigation going?”
“I’ve already checked the hospital footage. Evelyn was indeed robbed in the parking lot. The robber snatched the phone in her hand and ran off with it.”
“So Thomas was telling the truth? How did the robber who stole the phone know that Evelyn had his mobile phone? How did he know that Valeria would definitely agree to meet up once Thomas sent a message to her? Did he know that Thomas is on good terms with Valeria?”
William’s question hit the nail on the head. In fact, Bobby thought of this earlier as well. “Valeria has only met up with Thomas a few times. However, every time they meet, she has a chaperon with her. Most people won’t know that Thomas is close to Valeria. This person should be an acquaintance of them both, who knows them very well. Bobby took a deep breath. “There are messages from an unknown number on Valeria’s mobile phone. The content is about Miss Clark. “Was Evelyn scheming against Valeria? What’s her motive?” After asking the questions, William recalled that Evelyn had always stared at him fixedly. Could it be that she had attacked Valeria because she wanted him to herself?
This was repulsive! If Evelyn was the one who had done this, he would not let her off the hook!
In the presidential suite of Wolf Group, Francis was sitting on the sofa in the living room in his pajamas. His face was grim and gloomy.
Upon hearing the noise, Frederick opened the door and was surprised to see Francis. “What are you doing here, Mr. Gurney?”
“Thomas and Evelyn will be here soon. Something came up.”
“I’ll get you a glass of water!” Frederick poured a glass of water for Francis. The latter took the cup from him before he took a sip. Then the doorbell rang.
Frederick pulled the door open. Thomas and Evelyn walked inside one after another.
Francis waved his hand and said, “Have a seat. Tell me what’s going on.”
Evelyn began to cry after she sat down. “Thomas’s phone was snatched. Someone used his phone to send a message to Valeria. Valeria went to see that person after that. She fell into their trap and was sent to the hospital. The Howard family came to Thomas for an explanation, but he blamed me for it! He said I was the one who plotted everything! Grandpa, never in a thousand years have I done such a thing. Why would I want to hurt Valeria when I didn’t have any grudges against her?”
Francis listened to Evelyn quietly but he did not comfort her as usual. Instead, he glanced at Thomas and asked, “Are you close to Valeria?”
“Yes, Valeria sees me as her older brother. I think of her as a sister too. We’re on good terms.”
“Can you tell me why you suspect Evelyn?”
“Of course! First of all, it’s impossible for the robber to know that Evelyn has my phone. Secondly, only a few people know about my friendship with Valeria. Plus, Evelyn has told me that she likes William.”
Thomas stated his doubts briefly. Francis’s facial expression changed as he looked at Evelyn sternly. “Is it true that you like William?”
“No, I don’t! It was just a joke! I didn’t expect Thomas to take it seriously.” Evelyn denied it fervently.
Francis stared at her intently for a while. He was not a fool after all. Evelyn had volunteered to send documents to William’s office last time. She even forced him to treat her to a meal. Later, the waiter spilled some soup on her and she called William to question him about it.
Thomas would not accuse Evelyn like this without good reasons. He was not someone irresponsible. In fact, he was a man who valued responsibility.
Hence, judging by the previous incidents, it was likely true that Evelyn had taken a fancy to William.
Francis’s heart sank to the pit of his stomach when he thought of this. If Evelyn was really the one who had plotted against Valeria, things would get serious really fast.
William was not a man to be trifled with. The Wolf Group was already intimidating enough as a company, not to mention the Saunders family and the Howard family. If all three were to target the Gurney family together, it would a disaster.
Francis was riddled with worries at the thought of this. The most important thing right now was Valeria’s health. It was best that she was alive and well. As he thought about it, he immediately asked Thomas, “How is Valeria now?”
