Chapter 1349 Fear

Evelyn was led into the elevator with a smug smile on her face. Then, the receptionist helped her press the elevator button to the president’s office and politely left.
Evelyn had specifically asked Francis to let her send the documents to Wolf Group personally. Of course, her main priority wasn’t the document, but to contact William.
After the elevator doors were closed, Evelyn looked around the grand elevator with a smug smile on her face.
She had spent a lot of time and effort on her appearance today. She even hired a professional stylist to match her clothes and accessories. Her makeup and hair were also done by the best makeup artist and hairstylist. She didn’t believe that William could resist her beautiful appearance.
The elevator stopped on the floor of the president’s office. Evelyn walked out of the elevator elegantly and a woman in a uniform came over with a smile on her face. “Hello, Miss Gurney! This way, please!”
Evelyn followed the secretary to the president’s office with a smile on her face. She thought that she could go directly to William’s office to see him, but the secretary unexpectedly took her to a reception room.
The secretary helped Evelyn get some coffee after asking her to sit down. Evelyn felt uncomfortable and asked the secretary, “When can I see Mr. Howard?”
“Mr. Howard is very busy and he might need some time. Please wait for a moment.”
Evelyn was anxious and stood up angrily after she waited for half an hour. The door was pushed open and Marcus came in.
There was an apologetic smile on his face as he entered the room. “Hello, Miss Gurney! Sorry to keep you waiting!”
Evelyn suppressed the unhappiness in her heart when she saw Marcus. “Assistant Field, when can I see Mr. Howard?”
“Miss Gurney, I’m sorry but Mr. Howard is busy right now. You can just give me the documents.”
Evelyn was unhappy that she couldn’t see William. “I’m here to deliver a document to Mr. Howard and my grandfather said that I must hand it over to him personally. I don’t dare to disobey his orders and I must meet him myself!”
“Miss Gurney, Mr. Howard is very busy. He won’t be able to find time to meet you any time soon.” Marcus had a smile on his face, but his tone was very distant.
How could Evelyn let herself return empty-handed? “It doesn’t matter. I can wait for him.”
“Alright! Since you insist, then just wait a moment.” Marcus was not in the mood to deal with Evelyn and left with a polite smile.
Evelyn thought that Marcus was going to inform William, so she continued to sit in the reception room. She drank coffee one after another, but William was nowhere to be seen.
Evelyn couldn’t wait any longer and she went over to ask the secretary, who had an apologetic expression on her face. “Mr. Howard is really busy right now. Miss Gurney, I’m very sorry!”
Evelyn angrily called her grandfather and complained when they didn’t take her seriously at all. “Grandpa, I’ve been waiting at the Wolf Group for a few hours with the documents, but William hasn’t come to see me. He’s gone too far.”
“What? How can they be so rude to you? Didn’t they arrange for anyone to welcome you?” Francis asked angrily.
Evelyn said resentfully, “William’s assistant came for a while and left after that. I’m so angry!”
“William is very busy and Marcus is his most trusted staff. Wouldn’t it be enough for Marcus to meet you? You can just pass him the documents and it’ll be the same as giving it to William.”
“Didn’t you ask me to hand the document over to William personally? I’m just obeying your orders and I want to hand it over to him personally.  Grandpa, I’ve been waiting for so long and I’m starving. He should at least treat me to a meal, right?”
“You’re really one of a kind!” Francis shook his head. “All right, I’ll call William and tell him.”
William’s eyes were filled with impatience when he received the call from Francis, but his voice was no different from usual. “Hello, Mr. Gurney!”
“Mr. Howard, did you receive the documents?”
“I just came out of the meeting. Have the documents been delivered?” William pretended to be confused.
“Yes, I asked my granddaughter to send it. She is so stubborn that she has been waiting to pass the documents over to you in person. She has been waiting for several hours and she even said that she was very hungry. Can you take some time out to see her?”
“I’m sorry for keeping Miss Gurney waiting!” William said apologetically, but he frowned.
What did Francis mean? Was William supposed to treat Evelyn to a meal?
William didn’t want to eat with Evelyn, so he pretended not to understand what Francis meant. When William didn’t answer, Francis could only make it clear. “Mr. Howard, please treat Evelyn to a meal when you’re free. She has been spoiled by me, so please take care of her!”
Why didn’t Francis teach Evelyn a lesson if he knew that she was spoiled? William was filled with annoyance, but he had to agree for Francis’ sake.
Evelyn finally saw William after she waited for a few hours. He had not allowed her to enter his office at all. Instead, he brought his men to the reception room and said, “Thank you for sending me the documents personally, Miss Gurney. You can give them to me!”
Evelyn finally calmed down when she saw William. She took out the document and said with a gentle smile on her face, “Mr. Howard, this is the document my grandfather asked me to send over. He told me to hand it over to you.”
William didn’t take the document. Instead, his secretary stepped forward and took the document from Evelyn.
William’s tone was indifferent. “Is there anything else, Miss Gurney?”
Was he trying to chase her away? Evelyn felt dejected because William didn’t even bother to look at her even though she was dressed so beautifully.
Since she was here, she naturally couldn’t go back empty-handed. She said shamelessly, “I’ve been waiting here for so long and I’m starving. Mr. Howard, won’t you treat me to a meal?”
“I’m very busy, so I don’t have time to invite irrelevant people like you to a meal. However, Francis just called me and repeatedly asked me to treat you. I’m doing this for your grandfather’s sake! Miss Gurney, please!”
He meant that he didn’t want to invite Evelyn to a meal, but it was for the sake of Francis. William said this in front of the secretary and Marcus. Evelyn’s expression changed drastically, but William didn’t bother to be polite to her at all.
She looked at William with resentment. He had no patience for her, so he ignored her expression and led the way out.
Evelyn could only get up and follow William. He walked with large strides and he did not wait for Evelyn to reach the elevator. Evelyn had no choice but to run in her high heels and she could care less about her elegant image.
The elevator stopped on the first floor and William strode out of the elevator. Evelyn continued to run to catch up with him while Marcus and his secretary followed closely behind. They went out of the building where William’s car was parked at the main entrance of Wolf Group Building. When William walked out, Bobby opened the door and said, “Sir!”
William nodded and got in the car. Evelyn also wanted to sit in the same car as him, but William said lightly as soon as she reached the car, “Miss Gurney, please take the car at the back.”
“Why?” Evelyn asked in confusion.
William’s gaze was reserved and his voice was very cold. “This is my wife’s seat and she doesn’t like it when another woman enters my car.”
