Michael frowned and felt that Abbie was being unreasonable. “Where did you hear that? What the hell are you talking about?”
“How can you still deny it when the news is out? Michael, do you dare to say that you didn’t see Azalea or hug her tonight?”
“I didn’t! I was meeting Mr. Floyd and Azalea arrived after that. I didn’t hug her and I just helped her up because she almost fell.”
Abbie thought of the scene when she saw Azalea fall into Michael’s arms. She felt sad and said, “What? You obviously hugged her! Michael, I didn’t know that you’re such a good person.”
“Abbie, what are you angry about? Can you tell me so we can talk about it properly?”
“Aren’t I talking to you now? You said that you didn’t meet or hug Azalea, but it’s all over the media platforms. They can’t possibly come out with this story without proof, so why would they have photos of you if you’re innocent?”
“This is all a misunderstanding! Please believe me!”
“Perhaps hugging Azalea was a misunderstanding, but that doesn’t explain why my calls couldn’t get through! Alright, let’s say I believe you, but can you tell me whether Azalea is the reason why you’re cooperating with the Floyd family?”
“No!”
“You clearly told me that the Davis family was at a dead end and everything was rejecting you. Have you looked for Callum before this? Why did he suddenly change his attitude today when he ignored you before this? Didn’t both of you talk about Azalea during your business meeting? Didn’t Callum ask you to make a promise to Azalea?”
“No, Mr. Floyd didn’t lay out any conditions for me. Don’t think too much about it because both of us are not the type of people that would do that. The person I love has always been you. Please believe me!”
Abbie closed her eyes. Michael sounded so sure of himself, so was she just overthinking?
She couldn’t be unreasonable right now and she had to calm down. She suppressed the anger in her heart. “Michael, will you agree if the Floyd family wants you to marry Azalea?”
“No!” Michael answered firmly.
His answer made Abbie feel much better. “Alright, I believe you. Where are you now? Come back immediately. I want to see you!”
“Well… I’m going to see grandpa in the hospital, so I’m afraid I can’t meet you now.”
Abbie had waited for Michael all this while, but she still couldn’t see him and she felt a stabbing pain in her heart. What time was it now and why wasn’t Michael heading back yet? Was his meeting with his grandpa an excuse?
Her voice became colder. “So you can’t come back to see me now?”
“I’ll come to you after I visit Grandpa!”
Abbie didn’t say anything and hung up. Then, she threw the phone aside and started the car to leave Michael’s villa.
She thought that Michael would at least make a phone call or send a message to explain on the way back, but there was no news from him until she reached home.
Abbie couldn’t help but sneer when she thought of Valeria and William. He was careful and considerate to Valeria, and he would rush to wherever she was once she called him. William even pretended to live with Valeria just to pursue her. He was willing to overcome all odds for Valeria, but what had Michael ever done for Abbie?
She was taken aback when she couldn’t even recall what Michael had helped her with. Had she lowered her standards so much to be with Michael?
She had never considered being with another man, but did Michael think the same as her?
Abbie had never considered this issue before, but she suddenly felt a whirlwind of complicated feelings in her mind.
She went to the bathroom to take a shower wearily after she entered her apartment. She was filled with so many thoughts as she lay in the bathtub that she didn’t even know when the water became cold.
She only realized when she felt a little uncomfortable.
She grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her body before leaving the bathroom. Then, she realized that she had caught a cold when she continuously sneezed a few times.
She quickly took some flu medicine and went to bed to rest. Since the medicine had a drowsy effect, she fell asleep soon after lying on the bed.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Michael told Wayne about the meeting and negotiation with Callum. Wayne was in good spirits and had a discussion with Michael for a while. They talked so much that Michael felt thirsty, so the servant poured him a glass of water. However, he felt extremely sleepy after a while and fell asleep on the sofa in the ward.
Wayne lowered his voice when he saw Michael fall asleep and said, “Take off his shoes and let him rest on a pillow so that he can sleep more comfortably.”
Michael slept until the next morning and woke up feeling a little confused. “Did I fall asleep last night? Grandpa, why didn’t you wake me up?”
Wayne smiled and said, “You could barely open your eyes when you talked to me last night and you immediately fell asleep on the sofa. I didn’t dare to wake you up when I saw that you were so tired.”
“How could this be? It’s so strange.” Michael muttered. In the past, he could go on for three days without sleeping in order to win a lawsuit. He had never fallen asleep like how he did last night.
“I know that you haven’t had a good rest recently because of the company’s affairs. You must be exhausted because of stress from handling so many things. I’m sure you felt relieved when the Floyd family suddenly agreed to cooperate with you, and perhaps your body collapsed from the fatigue.”
Wayne’s explanation was reasonable and Michael didn’t expect that his grandfather would scheme against him either. He got up immediately. “Grandpa, I’ll go first!”
“Why don’t you leave after breakfast? I’ll ask Auntie to prepare your favourite food.”
“No, I’ll eat at home!” Michael left the ward in a hurry and called Abbie as soon as he returned to the parking lot.
Michael was worried when no one answered. He promised Abbie that he would meet her after he visited Wayne last night, so she must be very angry. He had to go and explain the whole matter to her.
Michael turned around and went to Abbie’s apartment. When he stopped the car under the apartment building, he immediately saw Richard’s flashy car. Why was Richard here?
Michael naturally couldn’t go up to see Abbie with Richard around, so he sat in the car and waited. He wanted to wait for Richard to leave before going up to see Abbie.
As a result, he waited in the car for more than ten minutes before Richard came down. However, he was not alone and his bodyguards were holding Abbie up. Her face was red with cracked lips and her gaze was absent-minded. Her hair was a mess and she was wearing a coat with slippers.
What was wrong with Abbie? Was she sick?
Michael looked at Abbie’s red face for a few seconds before he opened the door and rushed over subconsciously.
“You…”
However, Richard punched him before he could finish his words.
