Chapter 1286 No Choice

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Richard soon heard that Michael and Callum met at night. He knew very well what Azalea and Meadow were planning, and it seemed that Azalea had used Emily to beg Callum.
Callum was still in the dark about everything and he still regarded Azalea as his daughter. He was so protective over Azalea because he still felt that he owed Emily something. Besides, he was also willing to meet Michael and fulfil Azalea’s wishes. Needless to say, the two families were going to discuss their cooperation.
Richard wouldn’t have spent so much effort to do this if Meadow hadn’t humiliated Helen repeatedly, but things were different now.
Richard would not stand by and watch as his mother and sister were being humiliated like this, so he was going to take this good opportunity now.
Richard thought for a moment and called Abbie. “Go home now. I have something to tell you.”
Abbie refused Richard directly. “Why can’t you just tell me over the phone? I’m busy.”
“What else can you be busy with at night?” Richard asked indifferently.
Abbie replied, “I’m going to meet up with my friend for dinner. I have to keep my word and I can’t possibly stand her up like this.”
“Who are you going to meet?” Richard asked.
Abbie casually mentioned the name of one of her acquaintances. Richard then promptly acknowledged it and hung up without saying anything.
Michael and Callum were going to talk about their business cooperation in the evening. Since Abbie couldn’t go with them, did she really invite someone else to dinner at night?
Richard wanted to take Abbie to see the drama that would unfold tonight and he couldn’t waste the opportunity. He immediately called his bodyguard and said, “Keep an eye on Abbie and report her whereabouts to me.”
The bodyguard called him half an hour later. “Mr. Clark, Miss drove to a western restaurant in the city alone.”
“Is she alone or with someone else?”
“I only saw her alone!”
Richard asked for Abbie’s location and drove over. Meanwhile, she was eating steak alone in boredom. She initially planned to have a candlelight dinner with Michael, but he unexpectedly agreed to meet an important customer. Since Abbie had already made a reservation, she didn’t cancel it.
She was extremely bored as she ate alone and the steak that tasted delicious usually felt like tasteless gum in her mouth.
Abbie absent-mindedly cut a piece of beef and put it into her mouth when someone pulled the chair in front of her. She looked up happily when she thought it was Michael, but she frowned when she saw that it was Richard. “Why are you here?”
“Mom went abroad and Dad went to attend a business meeting. I came out because I didn’t want to have dinner alone, but I didn’t expect to meet you. Weren’t you supposed to meet your friend? Where is she?”
“She left because she had to deal with something.” Abbie lied without batting an eyelid.
“Well, that’s good. It’s rare for us to have a meal together, so let’s eat. Today will be your treat!”
Abbie snorted and said, “You’re really stingy. How can you take advantage of me like this?”
“What are you talking about? I’ve always treated you to meals, but you’ve never even done it once. How can I just keep giving without receiving anything in return? Why haven’t you treated me to a meal ever since you opened your own studio?”
“Okay, okay! I’ll treat you to a huge meal!” Abbie waved her hand and called for the waiter.
She ordered the same steak for Richard and a bottle of Chateau Lafite.
“Is today’s meal good enough for you?”
“At least you’re kind enough to me.” Richard smiled and began to enjoy dinner.
The steak was tasty and the red wine was naturally very good. Richard didn’t savour the wine slowly as usual and he gulped it down very fast. Soon, he emptied a whole bottle of red wine.
Abbie looked at him in shock. “How can you gulp the wine down like water? This is too…”
“I can drink however I like since you’re treating me,” Richard said as he put down the cup. “I’m going to the bathroom!”
Richard picked up his phone and read his assistant’s message after he entered the toilet. “Mr. Clark, Azalea went to the hotel where Mr. Floyd and Michael are meeting as you expected. I also saw a few people sneaking around outside and I’m guessing that they are from the Davis family.”
Richard sneered. “Okay! Let them do as they please. Arrange for someone to wait nearby to take intimate photos of Michael and Azalea.”
“I don’t think Michael would be close with Azalea, so taking intimate photos of them should be difficult.”
“Don’t worry, Azalea will definitely seize this opportunity. If you really can’t get the photos, you can ask someone to photoshop the pictures. Keep an eye out when Michael and Callum walk out of the restaurant. Remember to report it to me because I want Abbie to see it in person.”
Richard returned to his table without batting an eyelid after he gave instructions to his assistant.
He saw Abbie texting with an upset expression from a distance. It seemed that she was sending a message to Michael. How could Michael have time to entertain Abbie if he was trying to persuade Callum to cooperate tonight? She must be in a bad mood now.
It was a good thing for him! Richard knew that it was very shameful to plot against his sister, but he had no choice to do this for her sake.
Richard and Abbie then went out of the restaurant after they finished dinner. Richard put his hand on Abbie’s shoulder and said, “Please send me home tonight.”
Abbie knew that he could not drive after drinking, so she did not refuse.
Richard’s assistant sent a message to him when the car passed by the Grandeur Hotel where Michael and Callum was meeting. “Mr. Clark, Michael and Mr. Floyd will be out soon. Have you arrived?”
Richard reached out and touched his head after he read the text message. “Why is my head so dizzy? I feel so uncomfortable and I think I’m going to vomit! Stop the car and let me rest!”
Abbie had to stop the car. “Why has your tolerance become so bad? How can you feel dizzy after just a bottle of red wine?”
“I may have caught a cold, so I feel even worse after drinking.” Richard rubbed his forehead and he had an uneasy expression on his face.
Abbie opened a bottle of water for Richard and handed it to him when she saw how uncomfortable he was. “Would you like some water?”
“No, I’ll be fine after a rest.” Richard shook his head and refused. Abbie took a sip of water and said, “Do you want me to help you buy some medicine? There’s a pharmacy over there. I’ll buy you some flu medicine for you, alright?”
Abbie opened the car door as she spoke and accidentally spotted a familiar figure at the entrance of the hotel.
Wasn’t this man Michael? Was he meeting a client here?”
Abbie looked at the man standing next to Michael and recognized that it was Callum. Was Michael’s client Callum?
