A gleam flashed across the chief financial officer’s eyes, and he replied, “Yes! This partnership is currently the only lifesaver for the Davis family. If we can reach an agreement, we can turn the situation around. Otherwise, there would be nothing we can do!”
As Michael never interfered in the company’s affairs, he had no doubts about the chief financial officer’s words. He read the partnership document carefully. “I’ll talk to the Floyd family!”
“Mr. Davis had already spoken to the Floyd family through the phone today. It didn’t look good. The Floyd family has found out about our situation, and the person we were in contact with has started declining our invitations.”
“So the Floyd family already knows of the Davis family’s situation? They don’t want to partner with the Davis family?”
“That’s about it! The Floyd family is the only chance we have left. If we don’t have this partnership, there won’t be any hope for the company.”
Michael’s face was serious. “I can’t let go of any hope. I’ll call Callum first and see what he says.”
Michael said as he dialed Callum’s phone number. After a few rings, the call operator’s voice was heard. “The user is busy. Please call later.”
Michael waited for a while and then dialed again. Yet it was the same response. Was Callum unwilling to answer his call?
Although the Davis family was not as wealthy as the Floyd family, they weren’t insignificant people. Callum’s attitude was too arrogant.
Michael did not continue calling Callum. Instead, he asked the chief financial officer the situation with the banks. “Have you contacted the banks?”
“I’ve already contacted them. They started brushing us off after knowing our situation. None of them are willing to continue their loan.”
“Let me make a phone call. If the bank can extend the deadline, then we can take a breather.”
As Michael was a lawyer, he had close relationships with many banks’ upper management. He didn’t need all the banks to do him a favor. As long as one or two of them were willing to help, there might be a turning point in this matter.
He began to call the upper management of the banks. After more than a dozen calls were made, none were good news. They all had a way with words, and their words implied that they had no way to help.
A dozen calls Michael made took him three-four hours, but there was no progress at all. He had made a name for himself since he was young and had never faced this sort of situation before. Michael’s heart grew heavier.
He leaned back and rubbed his forehead. “What should I do now?”
He never paid attention to the business affairs of the company. It was not because he did not have the ability, but because he did not want his two half-brothers to feel threatened. So he broke away from the Davis family and opened a lawyer firm. He poured his efforts into his firm so that his brothers would understand that he did not have any intention of fighting for the family’s property.
However, his brothers still didn’t trust him even though he had given in and even put the Davis family into this situation. Michael was speechless at that.
The chief financial officer was still standing guard. Michael waved his hand and said, “You can leave. I want to be alone!”
“Then I’ll take my leave. Call me whenever you need anything.”
After the chief financial officer left, Michael lit a cigarette. He had only taken two puffs when the phone rang. He looked at the unfamiliar phone number on the screen and answered it with a frown. Azalea’s voice filled with worry was heard. “Michael, I heard that something happened to the Davis family. Is that true?”
“Where did you hear about this?” Michael asked.
“I heard it from my grandfather and father.” The grandfather and father mentioned by Azalea should be Fandrey and Callum. Michael was in a bad mood, so his response was harsh. “What else do you want?”
“Michael, I can help you with the Davis family!” Azalea did not care about his attitude. “I can persuade my grandfather and father to help the Davis family get through this difficulty.”
“You can persuade them?” Michael laughed. Wasn’t Azalea too ignorant of her abilities?
“Michael, don’t laugh. I can help you! I can persuade my father and grandfather to continue their partnership with the Davis family. I can get them to lend you money to help the Davis family get through this.”
“Is your so-called help unconditional?” Michael sneered.
“No. But I only have one condition. Can we be together, Michael?”
“Are you out of your mind?” Michael scolded. “Anyone with a little shame knows that I will never be with you. Miss Clark, you’d better give up.”
“Do you want to watch the Davis family go into ruins? The Davis family is the result of your grandfather’s efforts. If there’s a mishap with the Davis family, your grandfather won’t be able to take it. Michael, aren’t you worried that something will happen to your grandfather?”
“The Davis family has nothing to do with Miss Clark. I am very busy and have no time to talk to you.”
“Michael, do you really want to do this? Let me tell you, this is your last chance. You must seize it!”
Michael sneered and hung up the phone. He then threw the phone on the desk, feeling very annoyed.
Azalea used to be gentle and caring, but now she acted all high and mighty. Who did she think she was?
She acted as if she could make decisions for such significant matters. Who was she fooling? Even if Azalea could influence the Floyd family’s decisions, he still wouldn’t bow and scrape to please Azalea.
However, Azalea had suddenly changed from being submissive to being so aggressive, and Michael was unhappy about it.
He called William. “Is Azalea really the daughter of the Floyd family?”
“Why are you asking this all of a sudden?” William asked.
Michael told William what Azalea had told him on the phone. William chuckled and said, “Does she think she can influence the Floyd family’s affairs? She thinks too highly of herself.”
“So she is really the daughter of the Floyd family?” Michael asked. Was there any justice? How could a repulsive person such as Azalea be the daughter of the Floyd family?
“Are you going to comply with her since she is the daughter of the Floyd family?” William asked.
“No, how can I comply with her? I only feel disgusted. The Floyd family’s other daughter is repulsing as it is. This Azalea can only be worse than Angel. Since she called me and upset me, I want to pay her back and upset her as well.
William laughed. “How do you want to upset her?”
“Doesn’t she think she is all that? She even wanted to take advantage of me over such an important matter. I wanted to call your uncle to discuss this, but he didn’t answer my call. Do me a favor and tell your uncle or grandfather that Azalea wanted to interfere with their company’s affairs.”
Since Michael was bothered, he didn’t want others to be at peace as well. Did the Floyd family think he would run out of ideas even though they didn’t answer his calls?
He wanted to let the Floyd family know how disgusting Azalea was through William. Even if Azalea joined the Floyd family, she could only be a shame to the family like Angel.
William knew that Michael had been provoked by Azalea. “Don’t worry. I’ll help you vent your anger. But is your company really hopeless?”
