In the VIP ward upstairs, Meadow opened the door with flowers in her arms. She said with a smile, “Azalea, I’m here to see you!”
“Aunt Meadow!” Azalea greeted Meadow warmly as she walked in, while Emily looked at Meadow cautiously.
Ignoring Emily’s expression, Meadow greeted her with a smile. “Hello, Ms. Poland!”
“Hello! Sit here!” Emily invited Meadow to sit down and poured a glass of water for her out of courtesy.
Meadow took the water and thanked Emily. Then she explained to Azalea apologetically, “Azalea, I didn’t know that you were in the hospital. When I got the news the day before yesterday, I wanted to come to see you immediately, but Wayne fell sick suddenly. So my visit here was delayed for two days. Azalea, don’t blame me!”
Azalea replied immediately, “I know you treat me well. I won’t blame you!”
“I’ve always known that you are a kind child. You have been through a hard time!”
“Aunt Meadow, I’m fine!”
“How are you fine? You and Michael are deeply in love with each other. But all because of me, if not for me, you and Michael would be married long ago and might even have children already. I keep waiting for the day when you will get back together with Michael. But sadly, there wouldn’t be opportunities anymore. Azalea, Michael and I are deeply sorry to you! Let me apologize! Please forgive Michael and me!” Meadow exclaimed with a face full of regret and heartache.
Emily heard it clearly. “Mrs. Davis, what do you mean by this?”
“Ms. Poland, you are Azalea’s family, so I won’t keep it from you any longer. You should know that Azalea and Michael were in love and engaged back then. But what you don’t know is that Michael broke off the engagement suddenly, and it’s all because of me. Michael was forced by someone to break up with Azalea.”
“Forced by someone? Who was it?” Emily asked further.
“Who else? The two older sons of the Davis family, and also Abbie Clark, the daughter of the Clark family. You should know, Ms. Poland, that I came into the Davis family later on. So the two older sons are very displeased with me and are constantly hostile towards me. Abbie, on the other hand, is hostile towards Azalea. They know that Michael and Azalea are in love. So with ill intentions, they forced Michael to break up with Azalea. If not, they will mistreat me and harm Azalea. Michael could only comply with them for Azalea’s and my safety.”
Meadow wiped away her tears as she continued, “I thought that things would end as long as Michael gave in. But the two sons never thought of letting us go. They transferred the company funds away in secret, and now the company is facing a difficult time. Mr. Davis was admitted to the hospital because he was too angry about this.”
“How… how can this be?” Emily was furious.
“Yes, we didn’t expect them to be so vicious. Now, the Davis’ company is in chaos, and Abbie has also requested Michael to marry her. As long as Michael marries her, she will get the Clark family to support Michael and help the Davis family survive this situation. What else could Michael choose? My poor Michael! For the sake of the Davis family, for the sake of Mr. Davis’ well-being, he has sacrificed too much!”
As Azalea watched Meadow’s act, she knew it was time for her to chime in. So she immediately called out to Emily with tears in her eyes, “Mom! Please ask my dad to help Michael! Please help him! Michael is too pitiful!”
As Azalea begged Emily, a shocked expression flashed across Meadow’s face. “Mom? Azalea, you…”
Meadow pretended that she didn’t know Azalea’s identity. Azalea was well aware of it, so she immediately explained, “My aunt is my birth mother, and my father is Callum Floyd!”
“Oh my god! Is this true?”
“It’s true, Aunt Meadow. My parents and I only reunited a while ago. We can’t announce this to the public yet, so please keep it a secret for me.”
“Don’t worry. My lips are sealed. I promise not to say a word.” After Meadow promised, she changed the topic. “Azalea, since you are a daughter of the Floyd family, you don’t need to be afraid of that wretched Abbie anymore, right? Can’t you get back together with Michael now?”
“Aunt Meadow, I…” Azalea looked at Emily. “I have to listen to my parents regarding Michael and me.” She did not continue.
Meadow immediately looked at Emily and said, “Ms. Poland, my Michael has always loved Azalea deeply, and Azalea is in love with Michael as well. They are a match made in heaven and right for each other. Ms. Poland, could you think of ways to help them get together? I’m begging you!”
Emily was almost convinced by Meadow and Azalea’s act. But she still had some doubts. “Before this, Azalea was suffering because of Michael. So I met Michael to convince him to get back together with Azalea. However, Michael rejected me solemnly and said he was never in love with Azalea. He was only in love with Abbie from the start. How do you explain this?”
Meadow was stunned for a second before she immediately explained, “That was because Michael was trying to brush you off. Abbie is cruel and arrogant, and she has threatened to ruin Azalea’s face and reputation. With regards to Azalea’s safety, Michael is giving the same statement to everyone. Only I, as his mother, truly know his feelings for Azalea.”
“If what you said is true, I will naturally help them.”
“Thank you very much, Ms. Poland! You are such a kind person!” Meadow got what she wanted, so she was overjoyed and said many things to flatter Emily.
Azalea was about to be discharged from the hospital, so Meadow didn’t stay in Azalea’s ward for long. She said goodbye and left as her wish was fulfilled.
A few minutes after Meadow left, the Floyd family arranged for a car to pick up Azalea from the hospital.
Azalea thought that when she was discharged from the hospital, Fandrey, Deborah, and Callum would all come to pick her up. Yet, only the bodyguards and the servants from the Floyd family came. The smile she had from getting what she wanted a while ago disappeared immediately.
As Emily was packing up her things and saw Azalea’s unhappy expression, she lowered her voice and asked, “What are you unhappy about?”
“I thought that at least one of them would come and pick me up from the hospital, but none of them came.”
“Stop complaining. We are in the midst of a storm. Didn’t I tell you? The Labans are watching our every move. Do you want them to come against you?”
In the past two days, Emily had told Azalea a lot about the viciousness and shamelessness of the Labans. Azalea treasured her life, so she didn’t dare complain anymore. Instead, she lowered her voice and asked Emily, “Mom, are you coming with me to the Floyd family?”
“Why am I going? Go by yourself. The Floyd family has many rules, so be careful and don’t make them unhappy.”
“Got it!” Azalea agreed obediently. She thought that since she was an actress, why would she be afraid? She only needed to flatter Deborah and Fandrey cautiously, and she would soon have them wrapped around her fingers. As for Callum, she could deal with him with help from Emily.
