Fandrey was silent for a moment before he asked, “It’s a little strange. Do you have any suspicions?”
“At the moment, all the participants are trustworthy people. I will arrange someone to investigate.”
“I’ll handle the investigation. Failure is not necessarily a bad thing and it may be a blessing in disguise. Let’s wait and see. It may really be a good thing in the end.”
Callum was very quick to realize that there was a hidden meaning in Fandrey’s words. “Dad, do you know what happened?”
“I don’t know, but I just like to think positvely.” Fandrey didn’t want to continue the topic, “How is Angel feeling now?”
“She’s crying in the office.”
“Go and comfort her. After all, it’s her first job and it’s normal for her to feel upset if she fails.”
Angel wiped her tears in the office not only because she was humiliated, but also because she wanted to gain Callum’s pity.
Callum only glanced at her when he arrived at the company before he went back to his office. Angel’s heart began to pound. Would he scold her later?
Callum would definitely scold her because she made them lose a huge chunk of profits. She had to be scolded after just a few days in the company, and this would make her utterly embarrassed.
“What should I do? How do I fix his?”
Angel sat on her chair while she wracked her brains to think of a way to deal with it. When she thought of Callum’s gentle and careful attitude towards Emily, she had to ask for Emily’s help.
Angel immediately sent a message to Azalea. “Give me your auntie’s phone number.”
“Okay, I’ll give it to you right away.” Azalea did not ask any questions and gave Emily’s number to Angel.
Now was not the time for Angel to put on airs, so she pondered for a moment before she dialled Emily’s number.
Angel immediately said to Emily as soon as the phone was picked up, “Mom, it’s me! Angel.”
Emily was shocked when she heard Angel suddenly call her ‘Mom’ without warning. “It’s you. What’s the matter?”
“Something… I… I need you to help me.”
“What? What can I help you with?”
“Well, I screwed up my work and Dad will scold me later. I want you to help me say a few good words in front of him so he won’t scold me.” Angel felt very embarrassed to ask Emily for help, but she had no other way. No matter what, Emily was her mother and she would not refuse this request.
Emily listened to Angel’s words and despised Angel to the extreme. She refused without thinking. “I have nothing to do with your father. It should be useless for me to talk to him.”
“It will definitely be helpful. As long as you can speak up for me in front of Dad, he won’t scold me. Please! Can you help me?”
Emily hated people who played tricks and had no sense of responsibility. She didn’t want to talk to Angel anymore and she was afraid that Angel would continue to pester her, so she agreed and said, “Okay, I’ll try!”
Why would Emily plead with Callum? She wouldn’t be so kind. Angel was a mere impostor and she was not Emily’s real daughter. What did her life have to do with Emily?
Angel anxiously waited in the office after she called Emily. She was embarrassed because she had to ask for Emily’s help, but that did not mean that everything would go well. She did not know whether Emily would really convince Callum or not.
After she suffered like this for half an hour, she heard footsteps from the corridor and Callum came over.
Angel raised her red and swollen eyes when she saw Callum and cried pitifully, “Dad! Sorry! I… Boo…”
Callum shook his head when he saw Angel crying so sadly and said, “Don’t cry! Victory and defeat are common in this field, and we can’t win all the time. It’s not a bad thing to fail. You don’t know the reason behind failure, so you’ll succeed once you find out the reason, understand?”
Callum didn’t scold her but he comforted and taught her instead, which surprised Angel. She didn’t know Fandrey had asked Callum to comfort her, and she thought it was because she called Emily.
Emily was really good a good backer, and she was much better than Veronica and Ornard. For this, she must hold on tightly to Emily.
Angel thought about that while she wiped her tears. Then, she nodded and said, “I will find out the reason and I will try my best!”
“All right, wipe your tears and go to dinner with me. You’ll be able to think when you’ve eaten a proper meal!”
Angel was flattered and followed Callum out of the company. Angel felt that this was a good opportunity to please Callum and draw Emily over to her side. “Dad, how about calling Mom for dinner together?”
Callum was a little surprised by Angel’s proposal. He wanted to meet Emily, but he also knew that she would not come over. “Your mother won’t come.”
“Why don’t I try?” Angel refused to give up.
“All right!” Callum didn’t stop her.
Angel called Emily, but no one answered. Emily was so regretful after she picked up Angel’s call and she couldn’t bear to take the call again.
Angel couldn’t do anything if Emily didn’t answer the phone. “No one answered.”
Callum was very surprised that Angel had Emily’s number. “When did you contact your mother?”
“I asked Azalea to give me her number.”
“Is that so? If you have time, visit your mother more. She looks cold, but she’s actually very warm-hearted. Anyway, you are her child, so she will treat you well.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to you,” Angel promised respectfully and secretly sent a message to Azalea. “I’ll go to dinner with my dad. Call your aunt and come over soon. Let’s make a chance encounter.”
Azalea didn’t dare disobey Angel’s orders, and this was a good chance to please Angel. She promised, “Ms. Floyd, send me the location and I’ll pick up my aunt!”
Angel told Callum after she discussed with Azalea, “I asked Azalea to send Mom to dinner. She likes Western food, so let’s go to the Western restaurant and wait for her.”
Callum was somewhat impressed by Angel, but he didn’t know that Angel had evil intentions. He thought that Angel liked Emily because of family affection. He also wanted to see Emily, so he agreed to Angel’s suggestion.
They went to a famous western restaurant, but they met Richard at the door.
Angel’s eyes lit up when she saw Richard and they took the initiative to say hello. “Hello, Mr. Clark!”
Richard felt upset the moment he saw Angel, but he put on a false smile for Callum’s sake. “Hello, Ms. Floyd! Nice to meet you!”
Callum respected Richard very much and said with a smile, “Mr. Clark, are you alone?”
“I have an appointment with a friend!” Richard smiled and Braelynn’s car arrived while he spoke.
Braelynn got out of the car and saw them. She didn’t want to publicly announce her relationship with Richard, so she continued sitting in the car.
Richard saw Braelynn in the car and he knew what she was thinking. “Mr. Floyd, I need to meet my friend now. We’ll talk later!”
Angel felt uncomfortable when Richard left them directly and entered the restaurant.
“Dad, let’s go in too!”
Callum nodded and the two of them followed Richard into the Cantonese restaurant. Just then, Angel’s gaze followed Richard and she saw that he had entered a private room on the second floor.
