Madelyn composed herself and replied politely, “Miss, I am talented in cooking and also excellent in doing house chores.”
Madelyn had portrayed herself well and had spoken in a respectful manner. Angel had good feelings towards her and queried further, “You have great culinary skills, haven’t you? What kind of dishes are you good at?”
Madelyn then started to list all the recipes that were in her head. She had learned those dishes in a cooking class.
Angel was actually not interested in grasping her culinary capability. She was busy observing Madelyn from top to toe as she spoke.
Madelyn was rather good-looking and also knew how to adapt based on circumstances. It was obvious that she was an opportunistic person upon seeing how hard she was trying to sell herself. She would be an excellent candidate to get utilized appropriately. However, Angel was doubtful about her loyalty for now.
The butler who stood beside Angel noticed how she was paying close attention to Madelyn. He swiftly chimed in as he was worried that Angel was not feeling satisfied, “Lady Angel, this candidate is indeed talented in cooking and has won several awards. She also does house chores very well. Mr. Floyd has personally told me to keep her under review.”
Everything would be fine should the butler not voice out his opinion. However, Angel started to have questions in her mind upon hearing about it. Callum had always been focused on company matters and was never interested in household affairs. It was surprising for him to pay special attention to a servant. Something fishy must be going on behind the scene.
She needed to have a thorough background check on Madelyn. Angel thought to herself and replied, “I see. Let’s hire her as per my dad’s instruction then. Next candidate, please.”
Angel had set her mind up after interviewing all the potential servants. She sent a message to Veronica on her way back home and told her about Madelyn, “Mummy, I have something to tell you. There is a woman in her mid-forties who attended the interview and her name is Madelyn Barrack. She claimed to be excellent in cooking and dad had personally requested to hire her in. Why would he make such a huge fuss over a servant? I sense that something bizarre is happening here. What do you think?”
Veronica pondered for a moment upon reading her text message. The name of Madelyn had somewhat rung a bell to her. She thought about it carefully and recalled that Emily had a sister with the same name. Did Madelyn happen to be Emily’s sister?
It was impossible for Callum to let Emily’s sister be hired as a servant of the Floyd family, wasn’t it?
Veronica needed an accurate answer despite having the possibility that they might merely share the exact same name. She swiftly reverted, “How does Madelyn look like?”
“She is a middle-aged woman and looks presentable. I have a photo of her and I will send it over to you now,” Angel then sent Madelyn’s picture to her. A sneer had crept on Veronica’s face upon having a look at the said photo.
She was indeed the younger sister of Emily. She knew that Veronica was a lazy and opportunistic person. How could Veronica humble down in hopes to be hired as a servant?
The interesting point about the situation was that Callum had given special instruction to hire her in. Callum was one who valued relationships and had been paying great attention to Emily. How could he have the heart in letting the sister of the woman he deeply loved work as a servant in his property?
There must be other reasons to quantify his rationale!
The entire situation must be related to Emily! Could it be possible that both Emily and Callum had rekindled their relationship? Have they mistakenly thought that Angel was their daughter? They may have then decided to instruct Madelyn in working for the Floyd family because of this, right?
The senior members of the Floyd family were of old age and would eventually pass away. The wealth of the Floyd family would inevitably belong to Callum the moment that both Callum and Deborah were forever gone. Angel and Emily may seek the opportunity to reunite with each other. They would eventually live alongside Callum as a peaceful and loving family. Where would Veronica end up then?
Veronica was increasingly furious upon dwelling further into this matter.
Emily, that bitch, had played her cards so well. Veronica had initially thought that Emily would back down upon witnessing how influential she was. Emily had been pretending to be fragile and weak just to achieve her objective. It was undeniable that Emily had done things well but she had omitted the most important point in her master plan. She seemed to be unaware that Angel was not her daughter after all.
Emily was hoping to repeat history with Callum and eventually gain control of the Floyd family. Dream on! Veronica swore to never let Emily achieve her objective.
She needed to get rid of Madelyn as starters. Veronica scheduled to fire her from the Floyd family as a lesson to know her place well.
Veronica texted back upon setting her mind up. “I’ll instruct your uncle to have a background check regarding this woman. I’ll update you whenever I get ahold of her information.”
Veronica had been pacing around the room after reassuring Angel. She was still fuming in anger regarding the current situation. She then decided in getting ahold of Ornard in hopes talk about this matter.
Her driver had then transported her to Ornard’s house. The butler quickly came out to greet her, “Veronica, welcome!”
“Where is my brother?” Veronica asked.
“He is out of the country and he just left last night.”
How could Ornard not give her a heads up upon planning to leave the country? Veronica took her phone out and dialed his number with a displeased look on her face. She could not get through his phone and the butler notified her respectfully, “Mr. Laban is highly likely to be on the plane now. It is suggested for you in leaving him a message. He will then reply to you once he has the chance to check his phone.”
“Alright!” Veronica replied in an annoyed tone. She was feeling moody as it was a waste of her time to come all the way here. Her mind was full of Ornard’s sudden decision in flying back to the country. What on earth was he planning to do there?
Ornard’s flight was scheduled to arrive in B City at ten in the morning. He came back in a low-profile manner as he only brought along a bodyguard and an assistant with him.
He also did not consider staying in a luxurious hotel during this trip. He had instructed Gurmisran to rent a villa in secret before arriving at B City. The property was located beside the villa of the Anthony family. It was selected as his temporary residing place.
Ornard switched on his phone upon getting into the taxi after exiting the airport. He had a read at the message that was sent by Veronica, “Ornard, I have received an update from Angel. Emily’s sister with the name of Madelyn Barrack has been hired as a servant of the Floyd family. They must have ulterior motives in mind and you need to come up with a way of dealing with it as soon as possible. By the way, what is your purpose in leaving the country? Why didn’t you tell me beforehand?”
Ornard frowned and read the text message several times but did not revert back. He pondered for a moment and sent a message to Gurmisran, “Are you aware of the matter involving Madelyn?”
Gurmisran replied to his message that stated, “Nope, I have no idea about it.”
“I received news about it not long ago as well. Madelyn is now working as a servant in the Floyd family. Do assist me in instructing someone to keep a close eye on her!”
“Noted!” Gurmisran agreed.
“Let’s not meet up today as I currently have some personal matters to resolve. I do not wish to disturb the waters.”
Ornard placed his phone aside after sending the text message. He then looked out of the window to appreciate the scenery.
He had previously made approximately ten trips to B City. He was not familiar with the place but it did not feel foreign to him at all. His previous visits would be of business matters. However, he had a different purpose in mind this time.
Paisley had texted him the night before last in requesting to meet up. He outright refused her but soon received another follow-up from her. It was a wordless message and only contained a photo of herself.
Paisley was seen to be wearing silk pajamas in the picture. Her graceful figure could be vaguely seen accompanied by an embarrassed and teasing look.
Paisley was not one who would simply flirt around with others. Her objective was as clear as day upon sending such a picture to Ornard.
He did not expect her in taking such great consideration of his words. He stared at her picture for quite some time.
It was undeniable that Paisley was a charismatic woman in terms of physical appearance and capability. Besides, she had the support of the Anthony family at all times. Ornard had made up his mind upon thinking of the Anthony family. He reverted the text message, “What do you want from me?”
“I aspire to have both you and the Anthony family!”
She was indeed a flexible and clever person. Ornard chuckled and said, “Okay, I shall fulfill your request then.”
