The lawyer shook his head and said, “It would be at least five years for you and that is a bare minimum. I can’t come up with an exact number if someone intends to give you a hard time.”
“William will not let things slide! He’ll definitely make things difficult for me!” Hardy murmured to himself. It would be a whole new game should William interfere in this matter. Hardy would be locked up in prison for at least ten years.
“There is one solution left to ease this matter. We need to come up with a way to get the Anderson family to sign a dispute settlement agreement,” The lawyer continued speaking.
“You would have a lighter punishment should you obtain the said letter from the Anderson family. Raelyn was arrested by the police as she was charged with murdering several people. Things do not look good for her. On the other hand, Devon was also taken away by the authority. He was involved in many crimes and would face a similar fate with his wife. Hence, the only person that we could count on is Talitha.”
Hardy’s gaze was hopeful upon hearing the name of Talitha. “Why are you standing here and doing nothing then? Get ahold of Talitha right now! She is obsessed with me and desperately wants to become my wife. You can persuade her to achieve our objective since she is utterly interested in me.”
The lawyer sighed and replied, “I have the same thought with you and hence paid her a visit not long ago. I wanted to convince her in signing the letter as a way for you to be bailed out from jail. However, I was surprised as she had refused my request.”
“What? Does she have any idea what on earth is she doing?” Hardy was skeptical about it as he recalled how Talitha was deeply in love with him. He questioned further, “Did you not explain to her well enough?”
“No, I have made myself very clear. She will be handsomely rewarded as long as she agrees to our request. However, she was not interested in it and outright refused me.”
“That is impossible! Talitha has always dreamt of marrying me. How can she refuse such an easy request? I think she is just playing hard to get and wants to hear from me personally. Do get ahold of her and say that I would like to meet with her. I shall sincerely ask her to lend me a helping hand then.”
“Sir, I shall try my very best. I’m not sure whether she would be willing to visit you or not,” The lawyer was not very confident about this idea.
“It would be absolutely illogical for her in refusing to meet with me. She should be very desperate in negotiating with me right now! It is already game over for both Devon and Raelyn. She is all alone and no one could back her up. Talitha has gotten used to living a luxurious life. Who will be willing to bear her expenses in the future? She will definitely agree to my request for the sake of money and her future.”
The following scene had taken place in the parking lot of the Central South Building. Lucian took her phone out and dialed Braelynn’s number once again after parking her car. An automatic message was heard, “The number you have dialed can’t be reached at the moment. Please try again later.”
This was the fifth time that Lucian attempted to call Braelynn. However, it still did not get through.
She was extremely anxious as she was unable to get ahold of Braelynn.
Lucian only came to know today that both Devon and Raelyn were arrested. She was taken back upon knowing such shocking news of the Anderson couple.
How could it be game over for Devon and Raelyn? This was not expected at all. What had exactly happened behind the scenes?
Lucian was not convinced that Gavin would turn a blind eye to Raelyn and her family. How could the Anderson couple be faced in such a mess so rapidly should Gavin have backed them up?
Lucian had no one left to be her messenger as she had previously relied on Natalie and Archer. She used to have some connections in the business world due to the said influential couple.
She kept a low profile ever since Natalie and Archer got married. She dared not to act rashly and pretended to be sincere. Lucian thought things for the future and she was gradually being pushed to the sideline. She then wasn’t able to get ahold of private and confidential information.
The incident regarding Devon and Raelyn had occurred very long ago. It was impossible for Lucian to remain indifferent as she only got to know vaguely about it from the news.
She needed to ask Braelynn in detail regarding the shocking news.
She was still unable to get ahold of Braelynn. She then got out of the car and entered Central South Building.
The receptionist attended Braelynn and smiled upon getting to know her purpose of visit. “Do you have an appointment with her? I’m afraid that you can’t meet with President Saunders if you did not book your slot beforehand. She is very busy!”
Lucian was enraged by the receptionist. She composed herself and said, “I’m her mother. Do I still need to make an appointment to see her?”
“What? Are you kidding me? You can always contact her personally if you really are her mother. You would not even need to make a trip here, wouldn’t you?”
Lucian was pissed off as she felt that the receptionist was being impolite to her. She showed Braelynn’s phone number to the receptionist and said, “This is her number, right? I can’t get through her despite calling several times. I then came over to meet with her as I was worried about her.”
The receptionist finally decided to be lenient with her and said, “President Saunders can’t see you as she is currently in the midst of an important meeting. Please wait in the reception room for the time being.”
Lucian was then taken to the reception room. An employee brought her a cup of tea and left her alone. Braelynn was still not seen when the time slowly ticked away. Lucian was out of patience and left the room to check things out herself.
She made her way towards the corridor and coincidentally saw Braelynn coming out of the conference room alongside her assistant. Braelynn was surprised upon seeing the familiar face, “Mummy? Why are you here?”
“I’m here to have a word with you.”
“Alright then, let’s discuss it at my office.” Braelynn then brought her to the office. Lucian cut straight to the point as soon as she sat down, “Braelynn, I just received news that both Raelyn and Devon were being arrested. What happened to them?”
“Devon is involved in bribery and is suspected of murder. Raelyn is caught doing many guilty acts including the smuggling of illegal drugs as well as being suspected of murder. They should have been seized by the authority long ago,” Braelynn replied with an indifferent look on her face.
“But… Why didn’t the Saunders family interfere in this matter?” Lucian asked further.
“What? Why should they do that?” Braelynn questioned back.
“Raelyn is the only daughter of Gavin and he adores her so much. How could he have the heart to see Raelyn be caught in such a mess?”
Lucian’s purpose was very obvious as she eagerly wanted to know more about the situation. Braelynn sneered and said, “Raelyn is a vicious and shameless person and kept plotting against the Saunders family. They are not naive and foolish persons. Why would they save her from trouble then?”
“It’s logical for Archer to sit back and do nothing. However, Gavin will definitely do something about it…”
“Raelyn is not the daughter of the Saunders family. She turns out to be a servant’s daughter!” Braelynn immediately interrupted Lucian’s words. Could Lucian still have ulterior motives when things had already gone out of hand? Braelynn decided to shatter her hopes to bring her back to reality. “Why would the Saunders family lend a helping hand towards a ridiculous and ungrateful piece of s*it?”
Lucian was shocked upon hearing that Raelyn was not part of the Saunders family. “But… How… What is going on? This is unimaginable!”
“Yes indeed! Both Raelyn and Devon would soon be punished by the law. Hardy had successfully gotten rid of Natasya. The only survivor of the Anderson family is Talitha,” Braelynn locked her gaze on Lucian. She then gave cautionary advice,
“It’s better for one to be kind-hearted. It would be a blessing for Raelyn should she repent her mistakes and never to scheme against others ever again. She could then be able to live a comfortable life. She can only blame herself for not learning her lesson well, right?”
