After a moment of surprise, Declan immediately grabbed the phone on the table. Talitha, who was opposite the glass window, picked up the phone as well. Declan said eagerly, “Talitha, why are you here? Are you okay?”
Talitha heard Declan’s concerned voice and her nose twitched. On the way here, she could not accept that Declan was her father. Declan was so ugly and he could not compare with Devon at all. But when she saw the love in Declan’s eyes and listened to his caring words, she couldn’t help but accept this fact.
Declan looked at her with kindness, just like how Devon looked at Natasya. At that moment, Talitha’s tears gushed out of her eyes.
“Don’t cry! Who bullied you? Tell me, I’ll…”
Declan originally wanted to say that he would help her deal with it, but he swallowed his words when he remembered that he was in prison. He was no longer someone that had the world at his feet.
His life was about to come to an end. He could no longer take care of his daughter, nor should he see her get married and have children. It was impossible for him to see her happy anymore.
For the first time, Declan felt regretful. If he hadn’t done so many evil things or provoked the wrong people, he could be by Talitha’s side as she got married and had a child of her own.
Declan felt extremely uncomfortable. For the first time, he found that he was so weak that he couldn’t do anything at all. He suppressed the pain in his heart and comforted Talitha softly, “Talitha, you’re a good girl! Don’t cry and tell me what’s wrong.”
Talitha wiped her tears. “I… Do you know? I almost died last night.”
“What?”
“I said that I almost died! I almost drowned when I was thrown into the reservoir. Do you know who did this to me? It was Natasya!”
“How is this possible? That’s impossible…” Declan refused to believe it.
Talitha’s tears rolled down her cheeks. “You probably don’t know the life I’ve been living these days. I was going to marry Hardy, but Natasya snatched him away and killed my child. Mom and Dad are always on Natasya’s side and they despise me. They don’t even treat me like I’m human. I’ve been forced into this state, but Natasya still refuses to let me go.”
Talitha sobbed, “I didn’t know why my father hated me and why Natasya was completely different from me even though we’re sisters. It was not until last night that I knew the truth. My father doesn’t like me because I’m not his daughter. Since Natasya and I have different fathers, that’s the reason why she treated me so viciously!”
Declan’s hands were trembling. “Talitha, are you telling the truth? Do they really want to kill you?”
“Don’t you believe me? Look at my face.” Talitha pointed at her face. “This was because my mother hit me. Natasya killed my child and took my man away from me, but my mother didn’t say a word about it. When Natasya had a miscarriage because of her bad deeds, my mother beat me and scolded me instead.”
“How can they do this to you? Why do they have to do this?” Declan was extremely angry.
He shouldered everything for his brother’s sake and he only wanted Devon to take good care of his daughter, but everything was different from what he had imagined.
“Don’t you know that things are different now?” Talitha sobbed, “I am in a desperate situation. I have no power or money, and no one cares about me. Even my own family members want to kill me. I don’t know what to do. Tell me, what should I do now?”
“Talitha! I…” Declan’s eyes turned red.
“You’re my father, aren’t you? I’m here to ask you to help me so that I can live!” Talitha looked at Declan. “I want to live and I don’t want anyone to take my life away. I don’t want to die. I’m still so young. Help me!”
“How can I do that?” Declan asked with difficulty. Talitha was his only daughter and she was the only person he thought about!
“Tell William everything he wants to know. After you do that, I’m sure he’ll let me live.”
“This…” Declan hesitated. Was this part of William’s schemes? Did they deliberately arrange all this to force Talitha into desperation? This way, she would have no choice but to beg me for help.
“Why are you hesitating? Are you still thinking that William is behind all this? I am not smart, but I know very well who my enemies are. I’ll be able to live if you help me. If you refuse to do that, I will have no one to rely on after I leave this place and I may lose my life by tomorrow!”
Talitha knelt down. “I don’t want to die! Since you could help Devon because he’s your brother, why can’t you help me? I am your daughter. Dad! Why can’t you help me?”
Even someone as vicious as Declan could not bear to see his beloved daughter kneeling on the ground. “Talitha, get up and ask William to talk to me. I’ll tell him everything he wants to know!”
Talitha got up and left crying. A few minutes later, William entered the cubicle slowly.
When he saw Declan’s red eyes, he sneered and sat down. “If it weren’t for my men last night, your daughter would have been dead by now! Do you know what was the first thing your brother did?”
“What?”
“He first called someone to check if the body was your daughter and he even asked Raelyn to identify the corpse. Raelyn is crying to Gavin now and she’s trying to blame Talitha’s death on Raymond. She intends to get some benefits from Gavin.”
“How could they be so… so terrifying?” Declan muttered.
“People will change! Your brother was powerful in the past and Raelyn had a huge amount of assets. At that time, they had many options because they were superior to others. However, it’s different now. Your brother has lost his status and Raelyn is about to go bankrupt. They’re trying to grasp any opportunity that comes their way.”
William said calmly, “Declan, you’re not a good person and you’ve hurt so many innocent people. How can someone associated with you be a good person? Your brother is much more vicious than you. If something bad had happened to your brother, I don’t think you would target his daughter. As for Raelyn, don’t you know her character? You saw how Archer treated her before, but what did she do to him in the end? In the eyes of crazy people like them, they have no regard for family affection at all.”
