Thomas smiled and stood up to greet William, “It’s been a while, William!”
“Yes, indeed!” William was upset upon seeing Valeria chatting with Thomas in an uplifting mood. However, he managed to suppress his emotions and put his arm around her waist. He asked, “Sweetheart, are you feeling hungry?”
“Yes, I am. Would you be kind enough to treat us?”
“No problem. I just happened to have an appointment with someone else too,” William agreed with a smile on his face.
“Is it okay for you?” Thomas asked immediately to avoid being an inconvenience towards William.
“It’s okay as the man that I am meeting with is close with all of us here. Mr. Gurney, do you mind?”
Thomas glanced at Abbie and she clearly had no objection. He then nodded in agreement, “Okay then, I shall be the one treating you guys today!”
A playful smile appeared on William’s lips. Valeria instantly knew that her husband was planning to give Thomas a hard time.
She would not reject the idea but Valeria was very pleased with Thomas. She did not want William to mess with him and immediately chimed in, “It’s better for my husband to pay today. He would receive a much more reasonable price since he is a VIP here.”
William didn’t expect Valeria to come between his plan and he immediately stared at her. She took his hand and acted coquettishly, “Honey, thank you so much!”
William was annoyed that his wife had turned her back against him. However, he nodded along as he had no other choice left.
The group of people exited the coffee shop and made their way towards the restaurant. William gave Michael a call after arriving at the private room and said, “I’m in private room 1 and you can come over now.”
Michael entered the private room a few minutes later. Abbie had a blank expression on her face at the sight of him. On the other hand, Thomas immediately greeted him with a smile, “Michael, hello there!”
“Hi, Mr. Gurney!” Michael realized that Thomas was sitting next to Abbie. He immediately felt agitated but managed to keep his cool and took a seat.
He was displeased with Thomas and decided to give him a hard time, “I heard that you’re working with the Floyd family. Mr. Gurney, congratulations!”
“Thank you, Michael. However, it’s nothing fancy as I’m just earning a paycheck that’s all!” Thomas replied with a grin.
Valeria was startled by Michael’s words and asked, “Honey, is Mr. Gurney working in your grandfather’s company?”
“Yes.” William was a man of few words.
“May I know what you are working as?” Valeria was extremely curious about it.
“He is the president entrusted by the Floyd family,” Michael answered in a neutral tone.
“Wow, that’s amazing! Mr. Gurney, it must be tough for you to obtain a senior position at such a young age.”
William secretly frowned upon seeing Valeria’s face full of admiration. He followed along and said, “Yes… it’s not easy indeed!”
I managed to obtain Wolf Group under my belt when I was way younger than him. Why didn’t you praise or admire me back then? William thought to himself.
Valeria did not notice William’s change of tone and continued, “Mr. Gurney, you are such a brilliant man! Honey, I think that Mr. Gurney is also a very polite and interesting man. He is undoubtedly one of a kind.”
Valeria praised him without thinking twice as she genuinely thought that Thomas was a capable man. William’s gaze turned cold and let out a dry cough upon hearing her bombastic praise.
Thomas immediately changed the topic politely upon sensing that William was feeling slightly agitated. “William, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd would be coming over for a company inspection soon. Do you happen to know about this?”
“I’m unaware of it,” William replied and shook his head.
“Well, I guess Mr. Floyd intends to give you a surprise then! That’s why he had kept it a secret from you.”
“Is that so?” William smiled coldly. A surprise? Things would get messy real soon!
“Honey, you must be feeling on top of the world upon hearing that your grandparents will be coming over. Let’s pick them up together at the airport when the time comes.”
“There’s no need for such a hassle as you are currently pregnant. Your wellness is the utmost important thing right now. Besides, they must have planned their schedule well in advance.”
“Aren’t you intending to pick them up from the airport?” Valeria was stunned and realized that William was slightly feeling upset.
“Honey, they’re here to inspect their company. They would land at Misurton instead of B City, don’t you think? I can’t pick them up even if I want to, right?” William was not in the mood to talk about the Floyd family. He immediately changed the topic to avoid Valeria from finding out his depressed mood, “Let’s enjoy the meal as I’m starving already!”
William tried to mess around with Thomas a few times during the course of the meal. However, Valeria was the one who made him fail miserably.
Valeria kept siding with Thomas who was a man that she had just met. William was pissed off about it.
However, it was not possible for him to lose his temper and get into a fight with Valeria. He eventually stood up and left the private room upon receiving a phone call from Fandrey.
Fandrey was in an uplifting mood and said, “William, your grandma, uncle, and I would return back to the country tomorrow.”
“What time would you guys arrive? I shall pick you guys up from the airport.” William had to offer since Fandrey brought the topic up.
“We’ll arrive at nine in the evening tomorrow. Would you be free during that time?” Fandrey asked with a hopeful tone.
William had initially thought that Fandrey would stop by Misurton first. However, it was clear that the Floyd family would make their way to B City instead. He twitched his mouth and said, “Of course, I shall wait for you guys on time tomorrow.”
“William, you don’t seem too cheerful today,” Fandrey replied with a concerned tone.
“Not at all. I’m actually very excited to see both you and grandma!” William composed himself and tried to not lose his cool.
“That’s great to hear. Do not forget to pick us up at nine in the evening tomorrow. We have a gift for you!”
Fandrey gave him a few pieces of advice before ending the phone call. William kept his phone away and suddenly felt dizzy.
He did not want Valeria to meet with Fandrey and Deborah. He was very worried that they would give her a hard time.
He initially planned to go on a trip with Valeria to avoid his grandparents when they arrived in the country. However, it looked like this plan had to be scraped off the list as they will be here by tomorrow.
Valeria would eventually meet with his grandparents sooner or later and escaping was not an ideal solution. He needed to come up with a way to deal with his grandparents.
William stood there and was lost in his thoughts. Silas suddenly appeared and called him from behind, “Sir!”
“Holy shit!” William was utterly stunned when Silas appeared out of nowhere. He glared at Silas and said, “Were you planning to scare the bejesus out of me?”
Silas brushed his head and smiled awkwardly. “Erm, Sir! It was not my intention to surprise you. I just want to have a word with you.”
“Let’s talk about it at the lounge over there.” William brought Silas towards the lounge as It was inconvenient for them to exchange a conversation in the corridor.
William shut the door and sat down. “What is it about?”
“You have instructed me to investigate the man who is meeting with Valeria, right? His name is Thomas Gur…”
“You’re too late as I have met him in person,” William interrupted him with a frown on his face.
“No, I’m not talking about Thomas… Wait, that’s not quite right. I would want to report to you about Thomas Gurney. I suddenly recalled something after having a look at him.”
Silas brushed his head and continued, “Do you recall that I was assigned to find things out about Emily last time? Thomas and Emily met with each other in a quiet place and they were acting shady at that time.”
