Stanty, who was seated next to her, had also felt that Meadow had crossed the line. He was here to make peace and wondered why Meadow would bring up such a sensitive topic of the Saunders family. He frowned and glanced at Meadow.
Meadow stood firm to her ground and said, “Isn’t she pregnant before marriage? I am not aware that Valeria and William are married to each other.”
“Why would we notify you about their marriage?” Natalie’s tone was as cold as ice and continued, “I have yet to hear that outsiders need to know about marriages that are unrelated to them. Mrs. Davis, have you possibly overestimated yourself?”
Natalie was indirectly criticizing her for being a busybody who likes to meddle in others’ business.
Meadow was embarrassed and said, “No… Mrs. Saunders, please calm down. I said that because there was no wedding ceremony between William and Valeria…”
Michael brushed his forehead and wondered why he had such a clueless mother.
Michael had no choice but to clean her mess, “Mom, don’t you think it’s ridiculous to assume things? Valeria and William have gotten married several months ago but they have yet to hold a wedding ceremony. Don’t you think it’s rude for you to say this?”
Archer stared at Stanty coldly without saying a word. Stanty was feeling extremely embarrassed and scolded Meadow, “What nonsense are you talking about? Do apologize for your rash behavior right now!”
Meadow stammered and immediately apologized to them with a flustered face.
She initially wanted to humiliate Valeria but did not expect things to turn this way. She was feeling extremely moody by the sudden change of events.
She had assumed herself to be a wealthy and civilized woman ever since she got married to Stanty. She was highly respected as the Davis family was an influential family and this was the first time that she had publicly apologized for her behavior.
Meadow was feeling dejected and had blamed Abbie for her being caught in such a mess. Meadow then glared at Abbie to ease the anger within her.
Abbie was holding a teacup and asked, “Mrs. Davis, why are you looking at me blatantly? Is there any chance that I have offended you?”
Meadow gave her a displeased gaze as she thought that Abbie, who was interested in Michael, would be willing to tolerate everything for his sake. However, Abbie unexpectedly fired back and had made Meadow feel extremely abashed.
“Abbie, what do you mean? I didn’t glare at you but instead felt that you are getting increasingly gorgeous. Abbie, do you currently have a boyfriend?”
Richard replied coldly, “Mrs. Davis, you have been very keen about Valeria’s updates just now and you are currently interested in Abbie. You are indeed a busy woman!”
Everyone was well aware of the mockery tone within Richard’s words. Meadow blushed and had an embarrassed look on her face.
Abbie chimed in, “Mrs. Davis, how kind of you. You have to worry about my wellbeing apart from managing matters within the Davis family. Alright then, I have decided to show my appreciation and notify you that I am currently seeing someone. I have just met him today and we are very fond of each other. We will eventually be married if everything goes smoothly.”
Michael had a sullen look on his face and Abbie glanced at him with a smile. She continued, “By the way, Mrs. Davis, it would be better if you could pay more attention to Michael. Azalea and he have long been engaged but they have yet to throw a wedding ceremony. May I know when would that be? It would be nice if you could notify me beforehand as I would like to prepare a lovely wedding gift for them.”
Abbie was indirectly signaling to Meadow that she was no longer interested in Michael. Meadow was feeling on fire as she was being bombarded consecutively.
Abbie was actually still in love with Michael and had done everything together as a couple. She was willing to go soft for the sake of Michael but it was not a free pass for Meadow to humiliate her and cross the line.
She was utterly disgusted by what Meadow had done from the very beginning. She decided to distance herself from Michael as well as his mother to have a piece of mind.
Abbie went all out to cut ties with Michael and destroyed every inch of hope to get back together with him.
“Azalea has no business with us despite sharing the same family name with us. She has been claiming to be the adopted daughter of the Clark family and is very friendly with the Davis family. Her feelings with Michael are mutual and Mrs. Davis, you are very fond of her too. Why would you let Azalea continue suffering when you are very satisfied with her being your future daughter-in-law? It would be nice to have them married for her to be the next Mrs. Davis, right?”
Meadow was out of words and muttered to herself a few times before replying, “We are in the midst of planning their wedding event. Don’t worry about it as Azalea would soon become part of us.”
“That’s great to hear. Would you like any help then? I am friendly with a few excellent event companies and I can introduce them to you.”
Michael had a displeased look on his face and said, “Since when did I promise to marry Azalea? I have made it very clear to break off the engagement with her. Why am I still related to her?”
“Michael, I don’t think it’s nice for you to say this. Both the engagement and the marriage were proposed by the Davis family. Don’t you know that your actions will badly influence Azalea if you decide to turn back on your words? Michael, I would like to give you a reminder. Azalea still carries the Clark surname despite she was being adopted into our family. The Clark family would not let her experience such humiliation and you must eventually marry her.”
“Abbie has a point. Michael and Azalea have been a couple for so many years and it’s ridiculous if they don’t get married, right? Mr. and Mrs. Davis, I do think that it’s wise to pick a perfect day for their wedding,” Richard also chimed in.
Meadow could not afford to be once again frowned upon by the Clark family. She sat up straight and replied, “Do be rest assured. I am indeed very fond of Azalea and she would be the only candidate for being my daughter-in-law. I will have a good think about the most excellent date for them to become a married couple.”
Abbie smiled faintly and said, “That’s a relief to hear! Michael, I shall wish you happy marriage in advance, and may you have a long life of happiness together! Mr. and Mrs. Davis, congratulations! May you be blessed to have grandchildren real soon.”
Michael was feeling upset and glared at Meadow, “Mom! What on earth are you saying? Have you forgotten about the main point of our meetup session today?”
Meadow acted tough and said, “Abbie, how kind of you! I would like to thank you on behalf of Azalea and Michael!”
Abbie immediately replied, “It’s my pleasure! Although I do not deem Azalea to be part of the Clark family, she has however spent a good amount of time trying to be part of us. It’s not wise for the Clark family to not acknowledge her petty efforts, right? Just so you know, Azalea is currently in B City as well. Mrs. Davis, how about you invite Azalea over to meet up with Michael now? We can also use this meetup session to confirm the day of their marriage.”
