Chapter 699 Preparing For The Worst

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Devon was taken aback as their discussion was about a construction project at Ruthorham and Gurmit had agreed to pay ten million to ease things up. It would be a disaster should the secret conversation be leaked out in the open although Hardy was not the one who received the money.
“What are you waiting for? Get rid of it right now!”
“I tried but it’s useless. It has surpassed the popularity of William’s incident!” His secretary replied nervously.
“Sh*t! Sh*t! Damn it! Who did this? Who on earth was behind this?” Devon hung up the phone and immediately dialed Gurmit’s number. “What the hell is happening? Are you the one who recorded our conversation?”
“No, why would I do that?” Gurmit denied.
“Who could it be then? We were the only ones there, right?” Devon questioned.
“I’m telling you the truth! Why would I dig my own grave? I will be met with trouble too!”
“I’m warning you, do not admit it and say that the conversation is edited by someone. Do you understand?” Devon replied sternly.
“Don’t worry, I will keep it a secret and would claim that someone must be trying to frame me instead!”
Devon was feeling a bit relieved after the call as bribery was a serious offense. Besides, Gurmit was not a foolish man as it would not do him any good should he admit to being involved in this matter.
However, he needed to deal with this incident and was planning to hire someone to keep Gurmit’s mouth shut once and for all.
His phone suddenly rang when he was lost in his thought. The secretary of the provincial leader had called to notify him that the special investigation team has made their way to Ruthorham. Hardy needed to prepare himself to give full corporation towards this matter.
Devon had no time to prepare and had no choice but to make his way to Ruthorham as soon as possible.
He was preparing for the worst and told Raelyn, “Beg on your knees for help from your dad should something bad happen to me. You must persuade him to bail me out regardless of anything!”
Her face was as pale as a ghost, “Okay! Honey, you will be fine, right?”
“I don’t know and I can only take one step at a time! However, I am a bit concerned about Gurmit. Do arrange for someone to keep him quiet!” Devon glanced at Natasya as he finished speaking.
“Let’s carry on with our initial plan as there are no other ways left. Natasya, you shall join Talitha to rear the vermin. Be brave and just hang in there for seven days! I am willing to be stripped off my position if we can get William and Hardy under control.”
The scandal from Hardy’s media company began to spread not long after the bribery incident had exploded on the internet.
Mexicorp Media Production was found to hire keyboard warriors to frame William as the murderer of Declan. The price for accepting the task was also being published on the internet.
The evidence of bank transfer slips was also circulated as the result of the keyboard warriors who posted the most popular and top comments about the accusation.
The evidence ended with an official letter published by the lawyer of Howard Group. The police were quick on their feet and had already begun to detain these accomplices for further investigation.
The public opinion that was initially against William was taken aback by the sudden turn of the table.
Did it mean that Mexicorp Media Production was the one who deceived the whole world? The public felt that they were treated as fools and went to the official media account of Mexicorp to express their dissatisfaction.
They were once again in shock as Mexicorp dropped a bombshell on their official account.  It was an uncensored video between a woman and the general manager of the company and the video was spread out at the speed of lightning.
It would be a strange thing if the news did not make it to the trending list on the internet as the hacker had released such a huge scandal on their official account.
The scandals of Mexicorp had occupied the top three of the popularity list on the internet. The public was enraged and made a scene at the company by throwing garbage as a form of displeasure and disappointment.
The police were also on the move and captured the general manager of Mexicorp for further inspection.
He was handcuffed and forced into the police car and the entire company was demanded to be shut down. The police initiated the investigation on the grounds of a defamation case.
The truth of Declan’s death was also revealed and he was seen to be escorted from the hospital to the detention center without a scratch.
Declan’s death finally came to light and the doubtfulness had eventually subsided.
He was safe and sound, unlike the rumor which had claimed otherwise. What else could be more persuasive than this?
William’s lawyer, Michael, had sent more than a dozen letters to sue and demanded compensation. His actions were straight to the point with no room for discussion.
The justice department of B City deemed that this matter should be taken seriously as the damage done was too great towards the victim.
Hardy had no choice but to watch the media company that he had founded go under and he was deeply heartbroken by it. His reputation was ruined and also had to bear the huge penalty.
Michael had published a statement about William attempted to commit suicide as he was wrongly accused and was being cyberbullied. He was now receiving psychological counseling and undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Hardy began to throw things around him as he was pissed off by this news. Wasn’t it ridiculous for William claiming to be deeply affected by this?
It seemed that William had plans to get rid of Hardy as well as his media company all along.
Hardy’s effort went down the drain once more and needed to suffer a great loss as Michael had demanded a huge compensation fee.
He was blaming the mysterious man from abroad as he would not have made a move on William without the persuasion of the man. Hardy was fuming in anger but could not do anything about it.
How could it be possible to ask for a compensation fee from the mysterious man? Would the man be willing to lend a helping hand even if Hardy could figure out his identity?
Hardy was enraged but also feeling worried to get an earful from his father. He needed to come up with a good excuse to avoid his father from eating him alive.
Devon rushed back to Ruthorham along with his secretary who was also his driver. Raelyn was busy pulling strings as she knew that Devon had a good point. They needed to make sure that Gurmit does not turn his back against them and Raelyn knew exactly what to do.
Raelyn secretly went into her room and arranged an accident for Gurmit. She knew that the best way to keep one’s mouth shut was to ensure death upon him.
She was a ruthless woman as she showed no mercy and demanded, “Get rid of him at his company. I doubt that he would still be alive after throwing him off from a ten-story building.”
Raelyn finally let out a sigh of relief as her men promised to have it done as soon as possible. Devon would be then free from trouble as long as Gurmit was long gone.
Raelyn was lost in her thought and the door was suddenly knocked upon. Natasya shouted outside the door, “Mom, my uncle is fine! He is still alive!”
