Chapter 638 This Is Not Good!

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

In Natasya’s ward, screams and smashes sounded one after another. Raelyn was terrified as Natasya suddenly went crazy on the bed. She immediately rang the bell while screaming, “Doctor! Doctor! Please help!”
The doctor and nurse hurriedly entered the ward and were also shocked at Natasya’s behavior.
Natasya was racked in pain and screamed at the top of her lungs, “It’s too painful! I can’t take this anymore! Ah… Ah…”
The doctor and nurse pressed her down and Natasya fainted after they swiftly gave her an injection.
“What’s going on? What on earth is happening?” Raelyn caught a breather and asked the doctor.
“Well… we don’t know,” the doctor examined Natasya and continued, “Her wound has been split apart and she needs to undergo surgery to have it stitched up again.”
“You are so incapable. Did you do something to my daughter during surgery that has caused her to react this way?” Raelyn questioned.
“That’s impossible. The lead surgeon is the best doctor here and has operated on your daughter around eight hours. He did not even have the time to take a sip of water. How can you doubt him? Isn’t it too cruel?”
“But… are you able to tell me what is going on with my daughter?”
“We have no idea. She probably has other medical conditions that aren’t known by us.”
“What are you talking about? I’m most familiar with my daughter’s health. What can possibly go wrong with her?” Raelyn scolded. Devon came with his secretary and heard the argument as he walked into the ward.
He frowned and said, “That’s enough! Why are you making a fuss here?”
“Darling, Natasya was crying in pain and it seemed serious!”
Devon apologized to the doctor politely, “Please accept my apology if my wife was being harsh on you. She is just worried about our daughter.”
The doctor didn’t dare to make a fuss about it, “We’ll have to undergo some tests to see what is going on with the patient.”
Natasya was then brought into the examination room by the doctor and nurse. Devon said sternly, “Why did you yell at the doctor just now? What are you going to do if someone knows about it?”
“I was really anxious,” Raelyn leaned on Devon worriedly and continued, “Honey, what is going on with Natasya? Why did her health suddenly worsen?”
“I don’t know either. Could it be a countereffect?” Devon replied without giving a second thought.
“Huh? What do you mean?” Raelyn asked.
“Well… it’s not a scientific thing and we’ll know after the examination,” Devon answered perfunctorily when he realized that he had spilled the beans. He couldn’t tell Raelyn about the countereffect and he quickly steered away from the conversation, “Honey, have you gotten William’s phone number?”
“No, my dad does not have it. However, Raymond, that b*stard, did not take me seriously. I did not have a chance to ask for it.”
Raelyn answered disappointedly while Devon’s eyes were beaming with hope, “You shall keep trying and turn to Natalie as your last resort. Didn’t she lose her memory? It will be easy if you bait her into your trap, right?”
Raelyn was reluctant about this idea as she had never liked Natalie before. Her dissatisfaction towards Natalie had increasingly worsened, “I’d rather try my luck again from my father and Raymond.”
Devon didn’t insist and he stood outside with Raelyn for a while. Natasya finally came out of the examination room. The doctor then took off his gloves and mask, “We did not find anything bizarre apart from the wound due to the surgery.”
“Are you sure?” Raelyn was doubtful.
“Yes, her wound had split open due to vigorous movements and we had dealt with it accordingly. We need more time to see what’s the cause of it.”
Raelyn was out of ideas as the doctor said that Natasya was fine. She then brought Natasya back to the ward.
Devon was lost in his thought to come up with an explanation on why Natasya was in deep pain but nothing was wrong with her. What else could it be if it wasn’t the countereffect of the drug?
If Natasya had suffered a countereffect, did it mean that William had recovered?
This was not good! Devon was anxious and came up with an excuse to leave the hospital as soon as Natasya was brought into the ward.
As he hopped into the Uber car outside of the hospital, Devon took his phone out and began to make a call.
The call was to a leader from Juxemburg as Devon was entrusted by Lucian to pull some strings to save Gonzalec.
The leader agreed to help Devon out and he breathed a sigh of relief. The call was not because he wanted to do Lucian a favor, but he was worried about Natasya’s health.
Although he was born and raised in Kenoland, the drug was just a rumor, and he had no idea whether it would have a countereffect. Since the medication was gotten from Declan who bought it from Gonzalec, he had decided to ask Gonzalec about it.
Therefore, the most important thing was to save Gonzalec from prison. In the event that he failed to get him out, Devon still needed to ask him about the details of the drug.
Devon was cooking up a plan and he sent a message to Lucian, “I have already arranged for someone to pull some strings for us.”
“Thank you very much!” Lucian replied his message swiftly.
Devon was proud of himself to have a connection that can get things done. However, he did not know that Wolf Group was one step ahead of him. Devon immediately told Marcus about it.
William was then informed by Marcus as he thought for a while, “Devon doesn’t have a big heart. He must have other intentions to save Gonzalec from jail.”
“What do you mean?” Marcus asked.
“I reckon that it must have something to do with Natasya. I have arranged for the doctor to give her a biopharmaceutical shot when she was suddenly ill just now. Devon had no idea about it and might think that it was possible for a countereffect to happen. Besides, the drug that he used to harm me was bought from Gonzalec, hence this explains the full picture.”
Marcus was enlightened by William’s words, “I see. Mr. Howard, what’s your next move on him?”
“An eye for an eye!” William sneered and continued, “It’s not my style to let them off the hook when they tried to kill me last time. There will be hell to pay! I’ll be using Gonzalec to get rid of Devon and his entire family.”
“Is Gonzalec going to screw things up?” Marcus was a little worried as Devon and Lucian were not on the same boat. Revenge would be out of the window if Gonzalec turned his back against William.
“I will find a way to make Gonzalec a part of my team. He will be back with Silas by tomorrow morning and he still needs to put on an act at the detention center. Do make an arrangement for Devon to meet with Gonzalec. Then, put on a show to make Gonzalec and Lucian turn against each other.”
Marcus immediately understood and said, “I’ll get it done right now!”
