Abbie and Valeria drove to the seaside villa. They were as excited as kids at Christmas when they arrived.
Abbie was already amazed as they entered the hallway of the villa with the food in their hands.
Then, after she took a tour around the entire villa including the basement and balcony, she gave a thumbs-up and said, “Oh! My! God! Oh, my f*cking God!”
Valeria burst into laughter and said, “Come on, let’s go on a stroll along the beach. Then, we shall make ourselves a feast tonight.”
Soon, they put on their slippers and went for a walk at the beach. The seawater sparkled in blue and green as the both of them dashed towards the ocean’s embrace. Waves splashed onto them every few seconds, and they were entirely soaked within a few minutes.
When they had used up all their energy, they laid on the beach with their faces towards the sky, panting after a fun time.
Abbie tilted her head to the side and asked Valeria, “Did William propose to you here?”
“Yup,” Valeria replied blissfully.
“You didn’t even know that he was the president of Wolf Group back then, but you said yes without even thinking twice! Come to think of it, you’re really naive,” Abbie exclaimed.
“Valeria, you really are a perfect example of how fortune favours the bold, am I right?”
“Yes! I often think that I’m slow-witted and naive, on top of that, I’m impulsive as well. How on earth would William even fall in love with me? I honestly still could not get my head around it.”
“William was mesmerized by your naiveness and beauty,” Abbie concluded. “You were gorgeous since young, and I vividly remember that once, you wore a white dress and it made you look like a princess. You were so shy too. You looked practically like a doll! If I were a man, I would pledge my life to you too.”
“William hasn’t told me that I’m pretty before. Instead, he always said that I was ugly,” Valeria retorted.
“He wouldn’t have said that if you were really unpleasant to look at. Don’t you know that people tend to say things that they don’t mean? He would be asking for trouble if he told an ugly person that they were ugly to their face.”
Valeria was pleased and laughed at Abbie’s words. Abbie then sighed and said, “Valeria, I’ve been having these weird dreams for the past few days. I have no idea what is going on with me.”
“What weird dreams?” Valeria asked.
“I’ve dreamt of living in a foreign country with Michael. We…” Abbie paused for a moment before she continued, “We were close.”
“Close? What do you mean?” Valeria sat up and looked at Abbie astonishingly.
“Well… you know… that kind. He was hugging and kissing me, and… and we did… that thing!”
“What?” Valeria stared at Abbie with her mouth agape as she suddenly thought about what William had said, that Abbie had lost her memory. It seemed that Abbie and Michael had done many things as a couple when they were abroad back then.
Valeria was out of words, and Abbie sat up upon seeing her reaction and said, “Valeria, am I out of my mind? I hate him so much that the sight of him itself makes my blood boil. How could I even… I have clearly gone nuts!”
“Abbie, it’s just dreams! Dreams go by contraries, we should not believe them!”
“Yes, you’re right, I’ve been telling myself the same thing. But why him? Why do I keep having these weird dreams?” Abbie muttered.
“I’m afraid even though I know that there is nothing between us. My brother told me the other day that the reason why Azalea doesn’t like me was because she was jealous of the close relationship between Michael and I. If I keep my distance from him, Azalea would then leave me alone. Besides, my brother had also said that Michael is a piece of sh*t as he often sleeps around. He warned me to stay away from Michael. They would have been good friends if it weren’t for me. But why would my brother speak ill of him in front of me?”
“Your brother may be worried that you would be tricked by Michael. We can’t deny that Michael is charismatic, and he likes to flirt with you from time to time.”
“I know, but I think my brother is overreacting. There’s no need to speak of him this way, right? My brother is a sensible person, but when it comes to Michael, he would be raging in anger and would become uncontrollable. I did not think too much about this until I started dreaming about Michael and me. But after that, I felt strange, as one will dream about what they think during the day, right? So why would I dream about those nonsense when me and Michael have nothing going on? The dreams were so realistic, like they had really happened in real life.”
Valeria had run out of ideas to persuade her otherwise as she only knew the tip of the iceberg. Then, in hopes to kill this conversation, she replied, “Abbie, I think you are exhausted. Let’s take a breather. Let’s head back and make ourselves a big meal.”
After that, Valeria dragged Abbie back to the villa. They hopped into the shower as soon as they returned as they were uncomfortably soaked.
Valeria was in the master bedroom whereas Abbie occupied the guest room. When she came out of the shower and was about to put on her clothes, Valeria saw a dark figure standing at the door. She panicked and shouted but her mouth was quickly covered. William replied cheekily, “Honey, it’s me!”
“You scared the life out of me. Why didn’t you switch on the lights?” Valeria asked with her hand on her chest.
“I’m worried about you and wanted my visit to be a surprise. I didn’t know you were so timid.”
“Oh, so you’re blaming me instead?” Valeria glared at him while putting on her clothes swiftly. William kissed her on the lips and asked, “I assume that you haven’t had your dinner yet?”
“Nope, I intend to prepare dinner after taking a shower. Since you’re here now, I guess I shall leave it to you then.”
“No problem. I came here to feed my wife with good food.” William smiled while he helped her blow-dry her hair. “By the way, Michael is here too.”
“Why did you bring him here?”
“He drank a lot yesterday, and he insisted on coming over when he overheard that Abbie would be spending time with you here. There was nothing that I could do.” William replied helplessly.
“So you’re not actually worried about me at all, but you came here to smoothen things out for that jerk Michael, right?” Valeria was no longer a naive person, and she won’t be easily persuaded by William.
“No, it’s true that I’m worried about you, but yes, I intend to help Michael out as well. Listen to me, just keep yourself out of this and do not come between Michael and Abbie. Let nature takes its course. Otherwise, Abbie would definitely regret this in the future.”
“Honey, tell me the truth. What is going on between them?”
“It’s just problems that every couple ought to face. They had done everything together as a couple. Abbie is head over heels for Michael and she is willing to die for him. That’s how much she loves him. Do you understand what I’m trying to say?”
“It can’t be true, right?”
“Why would I lie to you? They would have been married long ago if it wasn’t for a little misunderstanding. Their kids would have been in their teen years now.”
“What happened between them?”
“It’s complicated. The thing is…” Just then, footsteps were heard as William intended to explain things. Abbie’s voice called out, “Valeria, who are you talking to?”
