Chapter 519 No Matter What

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Meanwhile, Valeria sent Abbie home after her injuries had been treated. She felt that she shouldn’t just leave Abbie alone right now as given what happened tonight, and it was the sensible thing to do.
Abbie teased her and said, “Valeria, I remember that we often spend the night together when I first returned from overseas back then. However, ever since you married William, we don’t even have the chance to do this anymore. Your husband is so protective of you! I shall get in more fights in the future, so that I would have an excuse to steal you away from him!”
“It looks like someone is holding a grudge against my husband. Come on, we’re best friends. We’re practically sisters! We can always count on each other, right? Our friendship would never change, not even a little, despite me being married.”
“That’s true. Anyway, my brother blew a fuse tonight. If it weren’t for you, he would never have let me off the hook this easily.” Abbie stuck out her tongue and continued, “The incident from not long ago had just come to an end but I have gotten myself into trouble again by hitting Talitha. I reckon that your dad and grandpa would have been on Raelyn’s side if you had not interfered. I know that I have acted rashly.”
“It’s nothing. How could you have restrained yourself when Talitha, that b*tch, was spitting nonsense about you? If I were you, I would have slapped her for being a big mouth too. Who the hell does she think she is?” Valeria was furious.
“Talitha and Azalea have teamed up. I overheard that it was Azalea who told her those nonsense. Azalea, that b*tch, how dare she team up with an outsider. I’ll make her pay!” Abbie continued angrily, “That disgusting jerk Michael too! I’ll definitely get my revenge on him!”
“Isn’t dealing with Azalea a piece of cake? I heard that only Michael’s mother-in-law has her back. I don’t think there’s anyone else, right?” Valeria asked.
“My parents have her back, too. She has always portrayed herself as a goody-two-shoes, which my parents are foolish enough to believe her.”
“I’ll help you.” Valeria sneered and continued, “We shall see what would become of her once we cut her off every one of those movies she’s starring in.”
As she said this, Valeria called Archer immediately. “Dad, I remembered that your company has invested in Azalea Clark’s movie. Please tell them that you would stop investing unless they kick her off the cast.”
“Since when did Azalea upset you?” Archer asked.
“No, she didn’t, but she’s messing with Abbie. It seems that Azalea is teaming up with Talitha, and it was what caused the fight.”
“Alright, I’ll notify them.” Archer agreed immediately. Abbie, who was sitting next to Valeria, heard their conversation and said, “Valeria, your dad is awesome!”
“I think I’ve said the same thing to you before, haven’t I? But what I’d said back then was, Abbie, your brother’s so cool! I’d wish to have a brother like him, unfortunately, I have one that is credulous and naive. However, I’m lucky to have a husband like William. He’s the best!”
“Oh, stop it. I’ll get jealous if you continued to praise your husband like this.” Abbie tried to act jealous.
The two of them laughed at this while the doorbell rang suddenly.
“Who could it be at this hour?” Abbie muttered as she opened the door with a press of a button on a panel. Then, Michael strode in through the front door with a pizza box in his hands.
Abbie’s expression turned dark as soon as she saw Michael. “Who told you to come here? Leave, right now.”
Michael ignored her cold attitude towards him and said, “I came to see you and brought supper for you and Valeria.”
“No! I don’t have the appetite! Please leave!”
“Abbie, please!” Michael begged and looked at Abbie pitifully.
Abbie was not the same soft-hearted person anymore, so she said sternly, “Michael, please know where you stand. You are engaged, so why on earth are you here at my house in the middle of the night? Get out of here! If you don’t, I’ll tell my brother that you are harassing me!”
Michael, who had come to visit them excitedly, became gloomy as he was forced to leave in the end. Abbie had not only driven him out, but she had thrown away the pizza he had brought too.
Then, Michael returned to his car depressingly and sat there for a while before messaging William, “Let’s have a drink together!”
“Come over to the Wolf Group, then. I’ll have a drink with you as soon as I am done with my work,” William replied. Just then, the door was pushed open and Ronald walked in with a bright smile.
“William! I’m here!”
“Have a seat.” William gestured Ronald to sit and asked, “How are you doing these days?”
“Thanks to you, I’m doing great!”
“Oh, is that so? Do you have any other plans? Or are you just going to go on like this?” William asked.
“I have nothing in mind right now actually. I am grateful for what I have now, and that you had let me off the hook considering my circumstances back then.” Ronald knew that William had invited him here for a reason. “I’m all ears, William. I am willing to go the extra mile to return the favour you have given me!”
William laughed and said, “This time, it’s something simple. I would like you to keep an eye on Savannah for two days. Don’t let her out of your sight, and make sure that she doesn’t leave your side. Can you do that for me?”
“Yes, of course!” Ronald nodded.
“I would like to remind you that Savannah might try to drug you these days, especially on the day after tomorrow. Do not consume anything that she gives you, alright?”
“Thank you for the reminder, William. I know she’s a wicked woman. I’ll always be on my toes to make sure that I won’t fall into her traps.”
“That’s good to hear!” William nodded satisfyingly.
“I know it’s difficult to deal with Savannah, but everything will come to an end in a few days. By then, I’ll arrange a suitable place for you to spend the rest of your life in peace. I understand that you’re not young anymore, so this would be the best for you.”
Ronald nodded gratefully and said, “Anything you say, William!”
Soon, Marcus came in after Ronald left and asked, “Mr. Howard, Ronald would not mess things up, would he?”
William shook his head and replied, “No, he’s a smart man. He knows exactly what he should and shouldn’t do. Besides, he’s in this situation right now all because of Savannah. He’ll do a good job.”
After hearing William’s undoubtful reply, Marcus immediately reminded him, “By the way, Savannah and Raelyn have met each other this evening. They have spent quite some time in Charles’ house.”
“Let them be. It’ll be hell for them in only a few days, so let them talk it through when they still have a chance,” William sneered.
“Mr. Howard, what do you mean? Didn’t you ask Ronald to keep an eye on Savannah? If that’s the case, why would she be dead?” Marcus asked in surprise.
“I just didn’t want Savannah to ruin Valeria’s party. I did not promise that I would spare her life, though.” A cold smile crept on William’s lips. “Our lives are up to God. I’m not Him and there is so little that I can do about it.”
“But if Savannah dies, Sir Hayden will suspect that it’s you…”
“There’s no other way. They’ve spent so much effort in planning all of this, so they must not only want to kill Savannah. They must have other motives and I am curious to know about them. I’ve never cared about Savannah’s life anyway,” William sneered. “You have to know that some people deserves to be saved, but some aren’t. It’s despicable to even consider saving Savannah, who had the guts to kill her own father.”
“But…” Marcus had wanted to continue but was interrupted by William, “I know what I’m doing. I assume Michael is already here, right? I’m going to have a few drinks with him. I can get drunk tonight since my wife is not here.”
