Chapter 495 Counting on Raymond

After Raelyn finished speaking, Savannah burst out all of a sudden, “Are you sure? How is that possible!?”
“Relax,” Raelyn waved her hand dismissively. “It’s only a suspicion, and we’ve not confirmed it yet.”
“So… you might be wrong? Geez, you gave me such a fright!” Savannah heaved a sigh of relief.
“But, nine out of ten, the rumor might be real. Think about it, why would Paisley, such a stuck-up and prideful woman, be so determined to marry William if he’s not the president of the Wolf Group?”
“Well, because he’s good-looking?”
“What about my dad, then? Do you think he would accept a useless man like William to be his grandson-in-law? And Archer, too! Why do you think they put in so much effort to plot against you and Ronald? Isn’t it so that Valeria could rightfully marry William? If William were what you think he was, they couldn’t possibly go to such extents for him.”
“You’re right… Why hadn’t I thought of it before? It would be terrible if William really is the president of Wolf Group!” Savannah’s expression turned grim.
The air turned somber as both of them fell silent. After a while, Raelyn’s phone rang. She glanced at the phone number and frowned, “Hello?”
“Hello, Mrs. Anderson. It’s Paisley Anthony!”
“Hello, Ms. Anthony!” Raelyn glanced at Savannah, who was also looking at her and was mouthing, “Speaking of the devil.”
Raelyn nodded and replied Paisley in a gentle voice, “Is there anything I can do for you, Ms. Anthony?”
“Are you free to meet up, Mrs. Anderson? There’s something I’d like to tell you.”
“Yes, of course. I’ll meet you in the evening, is that okay?”
After agreeing on a place to meet up, Raelyn hung up and asked Savannah, “Do you think she called me because she wants to join hands with me?”
Savannah tried to break it down, “I suppose so. After all, Richard is the culprit of the widespread of that scandalous video of hers, and it’s impossible for William not to have known about it. And, if he has the slightest affection towards her, he would have stood up for her. So, Paisley probably realized that it was impossible for her to be with William. She must want to look for some help in seeking her revenge now, right?”
“Yes, that makes sense. I’m looking forward to meeting her tonight. But right now, I’ll have to go over to my dad’s place with Talitha to apologize first. Raymond should be there as well… I’ll update you later after meeting with Paisley tonight.”
“What about the medicine? Give it to me first!” Savannah wasn’t going to forget about the medicine.
“You’re really going to head for it, huh?”
“Of course! I’m willing to take my chances. Who knows, maybe I will succeed,” Savannah answered. Seeing that Savannah wouldn’t give up, Raelyn got up and went into her bedroom. She opened her luggage, retrieved a bottle from it, and handed it to Savannah. “Use this just a little at a time. Don’t use this in huge amounts so that you won’t be discovered easily.”
At eleven in the morning, Gavin called Valeria, “Valeria, I’ve asked the kitchen to cook your favorite dishes for dinner tonight. Come over with William, okay?”
“Sure thing!” Valeria was somewhat pleased with the lack of action from Gavin and Archer after Talitha and Paisley had so brutally toyed with the previous night. So, she accepted his invitation.
“Call William to let him know, will you? I tried calling him, but I couldn’t get through,” Gavin continued.
“Got it. I’ll tell him.” After she hung up, Valeria tried calling William, but his phone was switched off.
Guessing that he was in a meeting, Valeria didn’t try calling again. But instead, she proceeded to send William a message before she left work.
On the way to Gavin’s place, she dropped by a store to buy some fruits and pastries. Soon, when she parked her car in front of Gavin’s bungalow, Oreo and Mocha came running to greet her.
The two of them circled Valeria, frantically bobbing their heads and wagging their tails. Then, Gavin walked out with his hands clasped behind his back with a radiant smile.
He was surprised to see Valeria alone, so he asked, “Where’s William?”
“I couldn’t get through to him either. He must be in a meeting.”
“I see,” Gavin smiled when he saw Valeria took out the fruits and pastries from her car. He accepted them gracefully and sighed, “Oh, my sweet thoughtful girl. Thank you for buying me my favorites. Your brother never bought anything for me. What an ungrateful brat! I’ll keep these fruits and pastries and eat them slowly. No one can take them from me!”
Valeria was amused, “Grandpa, you don’t have to do that. I can always buy more if you like it so much!”
As they entered the living room, a pallid-looking Raymond descended the stairs. Seeing Valeria, he gave a quick nod, “You’re here.”
“Yup,” Valeria replied. “What’s the matter? You look ill.”
“Oh, it’s nothing. I just didn’t sleep well last night.”
As they were talking, they heard the sound of a car outside. Gavin perked up and asked, “Is that William?”
“I don’t think so. He hasn’t replied to my message. Besides, if he is coming, he’d definitely let me know.” As Valeria finished her sentence, the clacking sound of heels could be heard.
It was a woman. Maybe Gavin had invited Raelyn too? Valeria thought, but she saw Gavin frown. He muttered grumpily, “Can’t they let an old man have his meal in peace?”
Just as he said this, Raelyn and Talitha entered the living room.
Neither Raelyn nor Talitha had bothered to dress up or put any makeup on as they had deliberately come over to apologize with haggard looks, not knowing that Valeria would be there as well. So, they turned stiff upon seeing Valeria’s dazzling appearance.
As women, they definitely didn’t want to be seen in such a mess. After a moment of embarrassment, Raelyn finally spoke, “Dad, I’m really sorry about last night! I was too anxious and was too quick to point fingers at you and Archer. I’m here with Talitha to apologize.”
“Okay,” Gavin answered flatly. However, he didn’t mention anything about forgiving her, and this made Raelyn awkward.
If Valeria hadn’t been there, Raelyn and Talitha would have put on a show and starting weeping without hesitation. However, with Valeria sitting so boldly with Oreo on her lap, looking as though she were watching a movie, Raelyn couldn’t bring herself to do it.
There was a dire need for someone to smooth things over at that moment. However, naturally, Valeria wouldn’t be the one to diminish the awkwardness. So, they could only count on Raymond to do it.
Indeed, an outpour of sympathy surged in Raymond’s heart at the sight of Talitha and Raelyn’s pitiful appearance. He took the initiative and said, “Aunt Raelyn, Talitha, please take a seat!”
Relieved that someone had finally properly acknowledged them, Raelyn and Talitha immediately sat down. Talitha sat beside Gavin and took hold of his arm, saying in her most endearing voice, “Grandpa, what happened last night was our bad. Please don’t stay mad at us.”
As he heard this, Gavin grunted in reply. He still loved Talitha no matter what, so he wasn’t really going to ignore her.
Seeing that Gavin had mellowed down, Raelyn felt a little relieved. Seated beside Valeria, Raelyn put on a smile and initiated a conversation with her, “So, you’re Valeria, right? You look just like Archer!”
Without missing a beat, Valeria continued stroking Oreo while replying coldly, “Everyone who has met me says that I look like my mom. You’re the first to say that I look like my dad.”
