Natalie couldn’t help but think of her son when looking at Raymond, who looked so much like Archer. Her son would probably be a handsome young man around that age, too, if he was still alive.
It was all because of Savannah he didn’t survive. She killed him. Natalie glared at Raymond, who was right in front of her eyes. The people Lucian arranged would kill him that night, and Savannah would suffer the same heartache Natalie had experienced.
Natalie sneered and turned away from the window while Raymond and Andrew continued walking towards the small building.
Upon seeing Raymond and Andrew, a middle-aged man walked out to politely greet them.
“Why is this small building built here separately?” Raymond asked.
“This was originally built for the staff. But later, our boss built another staff dormitory, and he renovated this place for guests,” the man replied.
“Is there anyone staying inside right now?” Raymond asked.
“Yes. Boss’s relative. She’s living here because she’s not well, but she’s about to leave.”
“Really? Can I go up and have a look?” Raymond asked with a frown. He asked them to evacuate the place so that there would be no other people, and he thought they made sure of it. If he hadn’t come to check, the owner’s relative might have stayed. And that really troubled Raymond.
He must see for himself to be assured.
“Our guest came to live here because she’s sick. I don’t think she’d want to see other people. Please don’t worry, she’ll be leaving soon. She won’t disturb you,” the man tried to stop him.
“I won’t disturb her too! I only wanted to have a look,” Raymond insisted.
In her room upstairs, Natalie overheard them talking and laughed coldly. Since they had never met, Raymond wouldn’t recognize her. Even if he did, he was going to be dead that night anyway. There was nothing to be afraid of.
So, she pulled up her mask and opened the door. Slightly coughing, she asked, “Who’s there?”
The man quickly answered, “Mr. Saunders is looking around. Did we disturb you?”
“Not at all. Let him come up!”
Upon getting permission from Natalie, the man stepped aside and let Raymond head up the stairs.
As they walked down the aisle, Raymond and Andrew saw no trace of occupants in the first few rooms. At last, they came to a stop at the door of Natalie’s room.
The door was left open, and in it, Natalie was sitting on the armchair, masked and dressed in black with a hat. There was a strong medicinal smell in the room, and a few bottles of medication could be seen on the bedside table. She looked up as she saw them.
“Hello!” She looked up as she saw them. Raymond said as their eyes met.
“Hi!” Natalie’s voice was soft and weak, precisely like how a person who had been sick for a long time would sound.
However, they thought it strange for her to wear a mask and hat indoors. Andrew even felt a sense of familiarity when he looked into Natalie’s eyes.
As he tried to look for the matching person in his mind, his phone rang. So, he left Raymond to answer the call.
Raymond entered the room and apologized, “I’m sorry to disturb you. I booked this place and asked them to evacuate irrelevant personnel, but I heard someone is staying here. So I had to come up and have a look.”
Natalie coughed, “I’m sorry, I’m about to leave. I’ve been sick for a long time and can’t really be out in the sun for long. That’s why I’ve been staying here.”
“It’s okay! You can stay since you’re sick,” Raymond looked around but didn’t see anything suspicious. However, even though the lady was only a sick woman who didn’t look like a threat to him, this place was still a security hazard since it was not guarded.
Natalie looked at Raymond again. She always remembered Savannah as a proud and arrogant person, but the gentle young man in front of her looked nothing like Savannah.
She couldn’t believe Savannah could raise up a son to be this gentle.
As Natalie was looking at Raymond, he was also scanning her from head to toes. She was all covered up except her eyes, so he could only see her beautiful eyes, which felt unexplainably familiar to him.
Natalie’s heart sank when she noticed Raymond staring at her. For all she knew, he might have suspected her. After all, Archer was intelligent, and Savannah was quite good at reading others. As their son, Raymond must be rather quick-witted.
It was then her headache cut off her train of thoughts. It hit her so bad that she couldn’t help but collapse on the sofa.
Clutching tightly onto the sofa, Natalie curled up and groaned in pain.
Raymond was dumbfounded, “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
Seeing that Natalie was writhing in pain, he stepped forward and held her.
However, Natalie pushed him away harshly and, in a hoarse voice, hissed, “Go away!”
“Let me take you to the hospital!” Raymond could feel her pain even without looking at her expression. He stepped forward, trying to support her again.
At this moment, the middle-aged man from the first floor appeared and hurried forward to stop Raymond, “Mr. Saunders, there is no cure for this disease. She can only wait until the pain is subdued. Please leave her alone for now.”
“Wait? That’s too cruel!” Raymond looked at Natalie, who was suffering from the pain, in disbelief.
“My family owns a hospital. Maybe I should send for an expert to come and see her!”
“There’s no need for that. She had seen a lot of experts, and none of them could help her,” the man said as he gestured for Raymond to leave.
Raymond sighed and left the room as he looked at Natalie for the final time. Then, the man walked him out of the room.
Meanwhile, Andrew was already done talking on the phone. Noticing Raymond, he smiled, “Let’s go. Abbie and Aunt Valeria are here.”
Raymond nodded and took another glance at the room before he went downstairs. Andrew felt strange and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“She’s so strange. She was in so much pain but didn’t want to see a doctor. I wonder why?”
“In pain? Maybe she’s just faking it,” Andrew shrugged. He wasn’t there when Natalie had the headache attack earlier. So, he dismissed it as a coincidence, and there must be a reason for it.
“No, she looked like she was really suffering,” Raymond shook his head. Weirdly, he felt a light tug in his heart thinking about the scene in the room.
“Then why didn’t she want to go to the hospital? That’s so weird,” Andrew muttered.
“Also, that man looks like he’s used to seeing her in pain. He said that there’s no cure for it. But he isn’t going to let her die of pain, is he? What a cold-blooded move.”
Andrew, on the other hand, didn’t know what Raymond was thinking. He only found the situation strange. “Should we tell Uncle William about it? A sick woman living in this small building that is connected to the outside. Everything about it is too weird!”
“No need to make a fuss. We’re just here to check.”
Since Raymond had said so, Andrew didn’t bother trying to persuade him. But he had to tell William about it because, after all, he was here on a mission.
So, Andrew took his phone out and sent William a text, “Uncle, there’s a strange woman in the resort. She was all covered up except her eyes on such a hot day, and the people here said she’s living here because she’s sick. Raymond and I went up to have a look just now, and she suddenly had a terrible headache. But the people around her wouldn’t allow her to go to the hospital. I’m just letting you know because I think this is all too strange.”
