Chapter 362 Indeed A Jerk

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

At the sight of Michael, Abbie’s face darkened instantly. However, Michael ignored her expression and said, “Abbie, didn’t I say I’d give you a ride? Why did you come without me?”
Abbie sneered and said, “You sure are humorous, Michael. I have my own car, so why should I take yours?”
“Oh, what’s the trouble, we live at the same area anyway.” Michael said good-naturedly.
At this moment, Andrew interrupted, “I don’t think Abbie lives that close to you, does she?”
“I’ve moved to a condominium next to hers. The environment there is quite pleasant.” Michael answered.
This made Valeria frown. Wasn’t he going a little too far?
He was someone’s fiance, and here he was trying to claim Abbie as his. How shameless of him!
As Valeria thought about this, she let out a cold laugh and said, “Michael, I heard that you and Azalea are going to have your wedding soon from the news! When will it be?”
Hearing Valeria said this, Michael denied it immediately. “That’s not true. After all, the tabloids are experts in writing nonsense, right?”
“Nonsense? Do you mean that the person who brought Azalea to the Davis family’s banquet hand in hand wasn’t you?
“It was me… but I…” Michael glanced at Abbie. He had explained this to Abbie before, so she wouldn’t mind, right?
He did not expect that Abbie would totally ignore him, without even sparing him a glance.
Raymond laughed and said, “Michael, what’s with the stuttering? Isn’t it a good thing that you’re going to marry Azalea? Just admit it so we can properly congratulate you. Wouldn’t that be great?”
“Who said I am marrying her?”
“Aren’t you both engaged? Why get engaged if you’re not going to get married?” Raymond asked.
“Yeah, exactly. Don’t people get engaged because they plan to marry each other? ” Valeria asked further. “Michael, you look like a gentleman to me, so I’d thought that you were a good person. I just can’t believe how disgusting you’re being. You’re showing how much you love Azalea to the public, but here you are claiming that you don’t even like her. Isn’t that what a jerk would do?
“Yes, exactly. You’re a jerk!” Raymond echoed.
Abbie didn’t say a word. She had a smile on her face, but whenever she looked at Michael, her face turned cold and distant.
This was giving Michael a headache so he turned to William for assistance. William put his hand on Valeria’s waist and faked a cough as he tried to change the topic, “Where’s Richard? Is he still coming? Let’s just start without him.”
Just then, Marcus pushed the door open and walked in. “Mr. Clark said that he’s going to be late. He asked us not to wait for him.”
“Tell them to start serving the dishes!” William ordered as the waiters started to bring in the main courses in an orderly manner.
Raymond sat next to Abbie and attended to her every move with a smile. Michael, who was opposite them, glared coldly at Raymond. Of course, Raymond could sense his gaze on him.
“Michael, why do you keep staring at me?”
“You’re good-looking though. Can’t I look at you?” Michael answered neutrally.
“I’m not a woman and I don’t like men either. Don’t you think it’s weird that you’re checking me out?” Raymond argued.
“Just ignore him, he’s probably having wrong hormone. Eat this. This is delicious!” Abbie returned the favor and helped him to some dishes too. Seeing that, Michael’s face turned dark with anger.
Seeing how angry Michael was, William helped Valeria to some dishes while glancing briefly at Marcus. Then, Marcus took the hint and went outside.
Abbie and Raymond were chatting away happily, while Michael stared at them with fury burning in his eyes. One of his hands was bandaged, and the other was holding a fork but he did not move or eat anything.
The more he looked at them, the angrier he got. And finally, as he could not take it anymore, he sent William a text message. “William Howard. Aren’t you my friend? You’re trying to piss me off, right? I can’t stand this bullsh*t anymore!”
William glanced at the message he sent and then flicked his gaze in Michael’s direction. He then replied, “Don’t be so anxious! Good things take time.”
“If it were your wife who was being flirted at like that, wouldn’t you be anxious too?”
“I’m not cheating on anyone, so why would my wife be interested in another guy?”
“Don’t act like you don’t know the truth. It’s fine if others don’t, but you obviously do, right? I didn’t have a choice!”
“Alright, stop being so impatient. Eat something. Marcus is already executing the plan.”
After reading William’s text message, Michael’s anger was slightly subdued and he started to eat while trying to ignore Abbie and Raymond for the time being.
Ten minutes later, Marcus came back. He pushed open the door and said to Michael, “Michael, there’s someone looking for you outside!”
When he heard this, Michael glanced at William and was given a knowing look in return, so he walked out.
Seeing Michael leave, Abbie lacked interest in keeping the conversation up with Raymond. Deciding not to speak to him anymore, she turned to talk to Valeria.
William pretended to look at his watch. “Hmm? Where did Michael go? Who’d wanted to see him?”
“Azalea Clark!” Marcus lied without batting an eyelid.
“Oh, I see. She’s keeping him on a tight leash, isn’t she? Will he be coming back, though?” William asked deliberately.
“I don’t think so. Azalea has booked a room here for tonight. I don’t think Michael will return home tonight too.” Marcus said with a hearty laugh.
Abbie immediately became unhappy as she heard Marcus and William. Valeria, on the other hand, was uncomfortable with it too. She filled Abbie’s plate with food and scolded, “What a jerk! He just claimed that he didn’t have feelings for Azalea. And now, he’s diving straight into her arms.”
“Exactly, unlike William and I. We are loyal men that will be true to our women till the end of time.” Raymond continued.
Abbie did not say anything to this. Instead, she picked up her wine glass and gulped down a large amount of it. At first, Valeria was clueless about her relationship with Michael, nor did she pay attention to anything that happened between them.
But after what William had told her, she could tell that Abbie was very concerned about Michael’s relationship with Azalea. Did she really like Michael?
Oh no. This was not good at all. Michael was a famous international lawyer and was the child of the Davis family, so there was nothing wrong with the compatibility of their statuses. But since he was engaged to Azalea, it would definitely make things complicated.
The public would surely gossip about them! Besides, no one was sure if Michael was true to Abbie anyway. If he was just toying with her, Abbie would be hurt immensely.
Thinking about this made Valeria anxious and she couldn’t help but turn to look at William for help. However, he just looked at her calmly and put a piece of his steak on her plate, “This is good, try it.”
Valeria could not say anything to William in front of everyone, so she turned to Abbie and then back at him. Seeing how she was trying to signal him anxiously, he chuckled and said, “Don’t worry. Your husband will take care of everything.”
Raymond, who had no clue about what was going on, was still trying to woo Abbie by helping her to a bowl of soup. Abbie smiled courteously and thanked him, but she did not touch any of it. Suddenly, she stood up and said, “Excuse me for a moment.”
Seeing that Valeria was about to follow her out, William held her back.
After Michael left the room, he sighed heavily. He knew that William and Marcus were just trying to make Abbie angry with that act of theirs.
He knew clearly that Azalea would definitely not appear at Wolf Group. As he thought of the exchange between Abbie and Raymond earlier, he was frustrated to the core. As he was now in a bad mood, he lit a cigarette. Once he took his first drag, a delicate voice chimed behind him, “Michael!”
