“And the winner for prom queen is….. Ember Wilson!”
We all applauded the girl. Some girl won the prom queen and it was Ember, the girl who I sat within my literature class.
“And the winner for prom king is….. Luke Jackson!” Said the announcer for the day.
We all cheered at them, and they both stood beside each other. They really look good together. I hope Luke finds happiness in her.
Emma glanced at me, studying my reaction to see if I reacted weirdly but I just gave her a thumbs up, “They look good together.”
She nodded, patting me on the head.
Heading home straight after that, I got in Dax’s car with the rest of the squad following me. They insisted on driving me home and I was too tired to even argue with that. Once in the car, we fell in complete silence. Yawning, I stared in an empty space and was pulled into a trance.
“Girl we arrived now.” I heard someone speaking from me.
“Hello, Snow?” The voice was getting louder and I woke up from my deep thoughts by Emma snapping her fingers in front of me. “Earth to Snow!”
“W-what?” I stuttered. I shook my head slightly to clear my head off.
“We’re now at your house.” I heard Dax say from the driver’s seat. I looked at the window and he was right, my house was just there.
I turned to them and saw their faces watching my every move. “What?” I asked.
They all just shrugged at that.
I just chose to shrug it off. Holding the door, I said, “Thank you, guys. Bye. See you.” And hopped off the car, slamming the door.
Hannah rolled down the window to wave at me. “Night, girl. Take care!”
“Mom? Nathan?” I called out but then I remembered it’s past midnight so they are already asleep. Fishing for the key from my purse, I scanned my eyes around and checked for any trouble as the silence around the neighborhood was too creepy.
I could hear a pin dropping from the total silence and adding to the fact that light is flickering from the post just situated meters away from our house.
I opened the front door and rushed inside, locking the door instantly. I went to the window and peeked, making sure to double-check it.
Just the usual paranoid me.
Loosening my fours inch heels that are killing my feet, I sighed in relief and relaxed on my back sitting on the sofa in our living room. I massaged my feet for a while before getting my pair of hello kitty slippers.
For minutes or so, I just stayed there, staring blankly at the wall. I blinked, noticing how loud my stomach was growling. Standing up, I grabbed some biscuits and made a cup of milk for me to sleep easily.
I stopped suddenly, my eyes alert and my ear waiting for another sound as I heard something rustling from outside.
I froze for a minute before comprehending what’s happening. I tiptoed my way to the back door that’s in our kitchen and gulped.
Should I shout? Should I run upstairs?
Just then, another sound of the rustling of the bushes came. “Who’s there?” The words came out of my mouth without thinking. I mumbled a curse.
Wrong move, Snow… I should’ve shown my ninja skills and crept back upstairs, and prepared to call the police.
It’s not a robber. It’s not a robber. I’m too tired for this sh*t, physically, emotionally, and all part of my existence.
Just a ding from my phone came and made me fall back dramatically, my heart beating faster and getting closer to a heart attack.
Eion: Goodnight.
It was from Eion. Eion freaking Hudson. That guy just chose to randomly text in the middle of the night in a perfect moment. I couldn’t be more surprised.
Snow: Great. Night.
I replied, scowling at his name in my contacts. Still, now, his name is still listed as “The Robot” on my phone.
Now that I think about it, he was not present earlier at the prom. I guess he still hasn’t recovered.
I huffed, finished my food, and ascended the stairs to wash up since my makeup and dress are all a mess. I’m a mess. Just then, another ding stopped me.
Eion: Sleeping so soon?
Snow: Kinda.
I shook my head at that. Then another ding again that came too fast.
Eion: No!
I frowned. I’m really tired. I’m not up for any of his games anymore.
Snow: And why is that?
And again, another fast reply.
Eion: Open your door.
It wasn’t a request. It was a demand. I rolled my eyes.
Snow: No, I won’t. Maybe there’s a robber outside and you want our house to get robbed, don’t you?
Eion: How’d you know?
Snow: ok, gotta sleep now.
At this, he called my phone and I declined it instantly.
Eion: No, open your damn back door!
Snow: Why?!!!
Eion: Just do it!!!!
It’s not what I think it is… is it? That he’s there, waiting for me like in those movies…? I rushed downstairs and into the back door. I stopped to type a text and confirm it.
Snow: How would I know that you’re not just fooling around? Bye. I’ll sleep now.
Eion: No I’m not! Damn it, Snow. Just f*cking open it!!!
Sighing, I opened the curtains first, seeing a shadow standing in the darkness. My eyes widened and I gulped.
It was a man’s shadow. Narrowing my eyes to confirm it, I clutched my phone in hand, ready to call 911. Damn Eion, demanding to open it.
I want to tell it to Eion in case I’ll disappear but then I have to man up and face this! Drawing a heavy breath, I prepared my body to take action.
In an instant, I quickly got my hello kitty slippers as self-defense and opened the door. The man turned around. Out of shock, I accidentally threw my slippers in hand into the guy’s face.
“Ow!”
He yelped in pain, rubbing his forehead. And there he was, it was Eion.
“Damn it, Snow! Really?” He exclaimed, looking at me like I had grown three heads.
“First of all, I didn’t expect that to land face-first on you and second of all, I had a bad feeling about this so out of shock I threw it on you,” I explained to him, feeling my heart bursting out of my chest from the nervousness earlier. Gosh.
I looked at him up and down, “Seriously Eion? What is this? It’s in the middle of the night!” I said.
He was wearing a suit and tie. What is this getup? He didn’t even appear earlier in prom…
He scoffed at me, “Isn’t it obvious? I’m surprising you stupid!” Despite his raised voice, his face was red and he avoided my eyes.
At this, I stopped. Looking around our backyard, my mouth went agape. There were lights everywhere, and full of different kinds of flowers scattered around the entire backyard.
In the middle portion and just behind Eion, there was a blanket laid on the green grass with lots of pillows arranged so comfortably and four flashlights shining on either side of the blanket.
“E-Eion…” I stuttered. I turn to him and can’t help but tear up.
He smirked at my reaction. “Surprise, Snow.”
“Is this real?” I croaked out, tears rolling down continuously.
“Yes. And hug me, stupid.” He offered his hands towards me. Grinning, I ran towards him and embraced him. I closed my eyes, still tearing up, his warmth spreading all over me.
I’m still not used to this kind of Eion. It feels like he’s possessed by a sweet ghost. Anyways, I’ll enjoy it.
I couldn’t help but inhale his scent that surprisingly calmed me a bit. He just stood there, not protesting but relaxing in my arms and running his hands to my hair.
“Surprised too much?” He asked cockily.
I raised my head and stared up at him. He was smiling so wide, looking at my lips. I leaned in and leaned closer and closer and…
I lightly hit him in the arm.
“Ow!” He clutched his cheek, groaning in pain. “What was that?”
“I thought you were a robber earlier!” I yelled to him, crossing my arms in front of me.
“Hmm… I would be a handsome robber then…” he commented.
I just rolled my eyes at him, “So you’re discharged now?”
He nodded, “I was just discharged yesterday night and… I went to that old man.”
“Old man… Really? You went to your dad?” I jumped up and down. “Thank goodness I won’t be hunted down to death!”
He just chuckled at that. Silence fell seconds later, he mumbled a curse and said, “Oh I forgot something. Wait.”
