Sorry

With the days passing by, our senior prom is already approaching. With Emma and Hannah still not talking to me, I had finally decided on it.
I went straight home these past few days.
I stood up to welcome my mother at the door, who was so happy with a wide grin on her face. “Hi mom, why are you so happy today?” I asked, scratching my head.
She didn’t reply but instead, flashed me a wide grin and an evil expression.
It turns out that she wanted to take a measure of my body. She took a tape measure and began earlier, finishing just now.
I stared at her deadpan, now realizing it. “Mom, if you think I’m going to go to the prom, no. I won’t. Never.” Yes, I decided I’ll just don’t go to the prom. I don’t have a partner anyways. I’m fine enjoying myself at home.
“Well, don’t be too full of yourself. I just got your measurements for a survey. Duh!” She said, flipping her hair. Psh, she’s not admitting it. I know her intentions. She’s really going to force me to go to the prom.
“Wow mom, that’s so lame! I’m not that dumb enough to know that it was all for making a dress for me.” I said.
“Well, you’re rig-No. You are so-very-very w-wrong!” She said, and I just sighed.
When night came, I finally decided. I’ll talk to Luke. I think it’s time.
Contacting Luke, I sent him a message.
Hey, are you busy? I want to talk to you now. – Snow
It wasn’t minutes later that he also replied to me.
I’m free. Just text me where we’ll talk. – Luke
Texting him the address, he agreed to it and I immediately prepared to go out. “Mom, I’m going out,” I yelled out to mom as I tied my shoelace on the staircase.
Mom’s figure appeared from the kitchen, “Where? It’s night time, I’ll drive you-”
I smiled at her, “I’ll just stake my motorbike. It won’t be that far, and it won’t take that long.”
Nodding her head, she wished me to drive safely and call him if something were wrong. I agreed and finally drove my motorbike to the coffee shop.
“Luke!”
I spotted him in a nearby coffee shop just down the street. He motioned for me to sit in front of him.
“I think it’s the proper time to talk to you, Luke.”
He smiled and replied, “Okay, I’m ready now.” There was something in his smile… it was not sad.. it was just blank.
My heart broke at that. Pursing my lips, I took a deep breath and looked him straight in the eye. It’s now or never.
“He’s… the one I love. Sorry..”
Silence. He just stared at me for a long time. Then after that, he acted like it was nothing, nodding to me in reply, glancing at his watch, and looking outside the glass window.
“Why are you not surprised?” I asked.
Instead, he just flashed me a small smile, “Well I know that already. I had prepared myself for it way back.” He said.
“The moment you didn’t ask for forgiveness that night at the New Year’s Party, to plead for me to stay, I knew it. And I was waiting for you to say it to me officially.”
I looked at him sadly, “I’m sorry. It took me so long to decide.. it was heartbreaking for me. And I’m sure for you.”
He shook his head. “No, don’t. At least I had heard it coming for you. At least, there’s closure.”
“Why are you saying that as if you moved on that fast?” I asked him and he just shrugged. “You even ignored me for the whole week.
“I hadn’t moved on yet. And I avoided you to distance myself and let you think properly. I want you to know who is the one who made you miss the most.” He answered. Moving on is when you can say that you’re 100% okay inside out. I guess I just accepted it. With time, I know I will. Don’t worry.”
I offered him a small smile, feeling so horrible that I have to hurt this lovely guy in front of me who just loves me wholeheartedly. I was ashamed to say that I hurt him, but he deserves someone better.
And that someone better is not me.
“Well then… I’m such a bitch to ask you this but… I want to know if we’re still…. friends?” I looked at him hopefully, fumbling hands nervously to the hem of my shirt.
“Friends? I don’t know Snow…” he replied. “But I’ll try. I can’t guarantee you to you though. I guess all I can give you now is ‘we’re on good terms”.
I sighed with relief. Gosh, this guy is just so precious I’m going to hell that I hurt him.
“I hope he treats you better than I do.” He said, smiling sadly. “Plus, I had always known that you two were a match….”
“Sorry Luke, I’m late.” Suddenly, a voice said. I looked up to the girl’s familiar British accent.
“Ember?” I confirmed it. Her blue eyes and red hair stood out so it’s really her!
“Snow? Hey!” She waved at me happily. I smiled at her.
“You know Ember?” I asked Luke.
Luke shrugged. “She’s…helping me to move on.”
I nodded. Looking at them, I guess there’s something that’s starting to happen. I guess this is my cue to leave. “Oh, I see. Well, I better go then. Bye Luke.”
“Bye Snow.” He said, smiling at me.
I started to walk towards the door when I remembered something, “Ember?”
She looked up at me, “Yes?”
I gave her a small smile and said, “Take care of him.”
She looked dumbfounded by my comment so I just chuckled and closed the door.
I met Luke’s eyes from outside the glass wall and winked, pointing at Ember and drawing heart shapes on air.
He just shook his head, chuckling. That boy is gold. And I was stupid not to choose him.
I chose a cold boy over a golden boy.
But now, I felt relieved knowing Luke didn’t hate me for my choice. Somehow, I feel like everything is going to get better now.
