Do I really have to?

Book:His Winter Heart Published:2024-5-31

Swimming for the last time on a very beautiful island that’s like a paradise left me mourning for the past few days I just wasted.
I got allergic, I got to have some fun time in the market, stressing about Eion and all those useless things.
I just missed the important thing. To enjoy myself here. And of course, to have a really, really peaceful mind. Especially now that once we’re back to school, everything would be stressful.
With the upcoming prom, college choices and entrance exams, and of course, our graduation.
Unfortunately, as Luke ‘forgot’ to mention about extending our vacation here, I have wasted all of my clothes. Even the two extra shirts I bought.
But ‘thankfully’, the idiot had the nerve to lend me his shirt. Hannah also contributed and donated one of the extra new underwear that she bought here.
The time passed by as night came, dinner was served, and now, we were chilling by the seashore.
According to Leroy, we should have last night’s party so he asked for some beers and alcohol.
And with Emma’s advice to have a bonfire marshmallow party, here we are now. I sat by the trunk of a tree that Dax and Leroy got from somewhere and arranged the pieces circulating the fire, with everyone here and Eion finally appearing after two days.
“Snow! Come closer!”
Hannah demanded as she adjusted her Nikon camera to a tripod I don’t even know she had brought with her.
I huffed, rolling my eyes but doing what she told me and sitting closer to Dax who was putting his hands above my head and forming his two fingers like a horn in my head. We were huddled so close already as if it’s not close enough.
“One, Two, Three, four…” Emma counted off, rushing in the middle to be also seen in the camera.
By the time it got to six-count, I formed my lips into a wide smile showing off my teeth just in time for the camera clicking.
I sighed as the group moved away when the ‘ photoshoot’ was over.
“You okay?”
Luke asked when he rushed to sit beside me. I stared at him deadpan and shook my head no. He didn’t bother to make a comment as Leroy cracked a joke about catching a ghost in our group picture.
I have been upset as I realized I just have made the most regretful decision in my life.
Especially when I just created a list of the things I would do here. Not enjoying this free trip to an extent. This would be it. After this, there’s nothing more.
I guess I’ll just enjoy this night then. This is all I have now.
“Give me that,” I ordered Dax, who was serving the beers in small cups to the boys.
He looked at me like I was mad. “Snow? This is only for us boys we don’t want you, girls, to-”
I rolled my eyes, “Just give me one.” I sighed. When he didn’t give me one, I stood up to reach out and grab a cup myself. I chugged it down instantly, not even letting myself taste it and just got over it easily.
I squirted my face in disgust as it managed to leave a bitter taste in my tongue, the alcohol burning inside my throat and down to my stomach, leaving a strange feeling.
I glared at the cup, wow, is that all? How come everyone can enjoy this thing?
Emma eyed me as I finished drinking. “Do you want to forget something, Snow?”
I rolled my eyes at her, “No. Just want to enjoy this trip while I have the chance.” I shrugged. I reached for another, and another, the fourth time was cut when Luke ordered Dax to hide the beer.
“Snow. Stop.” He stared at me seriously. I beamed at him and hiccuped, then remembering I was supposed to be upset with him, I turned away instantly.
“I’ll better get you to sleep. Come.” Luke stood up, motioning for me. I shook my head no hardheadedly, not wanting to go to sleep yet.
“I have to enjoy this,” I mumbled to him.
“But you can’t. Tomorrow you’ll get a headache.” He shook his head at me.
“Hmmm.” I hummed, now hiccupping, Don’t care.”
He sighed and gave up. “Then just enjoy the marshmallows.”
“No, I won’t.” I still shook my head at that.
“Please?” He pouted, but I still refused. “No.”
“Dax?” Luke finally sighed and turned to Dax, “Can you escort Snow to their room?”
“What?” Even Dax was also tipsy. I giggled.
“Leroy?” Luke turned to Leroy, who was dancing happily with Hannah with weird moves to a song blasting from the speakers. “Nevermind.” He mumbled to himself. I flashed him a smirk.
“You’ll regret this, I promise you. Really, Snow, stop being so stubborn. This is your first time drinking, I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“But I’m enjoying it!” I exclaimed. Standing up, I held my chin up high and puffed out my chest so proudly, my arms seemed like they had their own mind as they swayed and moved without me controlling it.
I ended up punching a hard object from behind me. I squinted at the object as my eyes were slightly blurry.
“Eion!” I exclaimed when I saw Eion there, standing with his cup of coffee. But his coffee spilled on the sand, his mug dropping to the sand as I saw some droplets of coffee flying on his shirt.
I smelled a strong aroma of the coffee, native coffee which is black coffee and bitter and I knew it from Mario.
“Ooops, sorry.” I giggled. Spreading my arms wide to welcome him, I grinned, “Come enjoy Eion, we’ll be leaving tomorrow!”
“Enjoy?” He scoffed at me, “My hot coffee was just spilled all over my whole shirt. Never mind it, I think it’s better to leave tonight.” He wiped his chest in an attempt to clean it but ended up failing.
Checking from my “slightly” blurry vision, there was really something black that I’m guessing is the coffee spilled on his shirt. I gulped.
“Eion!” A voice boomed from behind. “Couz, thank goodness. Can you get Snow to her sleep? She’s drunk, she hates me now.” I heard Luke suggested.
From beside me, I saw Eion furrowing his eyebrows at me and had this disgusted look on his face. “Uhm, Why me?”
Luke closed his eyes and swallowed, “Just do it, promise, I owe you one.”
“Do I really have to?” Eion asked, glancing at my poor state.
