MOON STONE FORTRESS
“How in the world is dinner being prepared behind my back?!” Jaylen mumbled from the dining entrance.
Both of his grandmothers got in the mood and decided they would be preparing both of their family specials. And both of which Jaylen loves so much. Everyone was by the table including Rosalyn and Adriel. Except Jayden of course.
Meagan chuckled. “I have a feeling they did it for you and not because of all of us.”
“Don’t make him think too highly of himself. I wasn’t thinking one bit about you while I made this.” Gabriella bragged.
Jaylen snorted. “It is so easy to know when you are telling a lie.” He smiled, hugging her from behind as she bends over the table.
Gabriella protested while stifling a laugh. “Don’t break my backbone young man.”
Claire walked in as she was obviously just returning from a outing. “Hmmm, this place smells delicious, what are we celebrating?” She inquired picking at drumstick.
“Get that dirty hands of yours away from there!” Gabriella glared at her. “I can’t remember seeing you washing those dirt off your hands.”
“And did you remind yourself that yelling like that would have your heart stop?” Claire retorted.
Holding up a spoon, Gabriella brandished it towards Claire causing her to run off. The others laughed tirelessly. As they settled, Juno walked in with her holding up a plate of sweet mashed potatoes.
“Holly molly, we are really having a food fest tonight.” Jaylen said excitedly like a young child being handed candy. “My wolf is at peace with you all.”
“It has been a while I saw you this relaxed, Jaylen. I am glad mom and Gabriella thought it right to do something nice for the family.” Meagan noted, as she caressed Juno on the back after she came to hug her.
“Let’s settle and eat please. I am famished. I have been working all day.” Mrs Swift said.
Meagan nodded. “Right after you ma.”
“See you all starting dinner without me.” Claire mused as she sat next to Jaylen’s empty space since Juno was occupying the other. She had changed the outfit she had on earlier.
“I haven’t seen Lorelei around for quite sometime now, is everything okay?” Meagan said, as they settled down to eat.
Claire flicked her tongue. “He broke up with her again.” She said in a loud tone.
Jaylen groaned inwardly. “Can you do me a favor and keep your mouth shut.”
“Is that true Jaylen?” Mrs Swift asked.
“No, grandma. We just needed some space. It would sort out with time.” He said.
Adriel looked down on her plate in despair. “This is all because of me.”
Jaylen huffed. “Oh please Adriel, it has nothing to do with you.”
Sensing the tension seeping into the conversation, Meagan decided to take a swerve. “Rosalyn, how have you been enjoying the Fortress so far?”
Rosalyn blushed profusely. She has had the best weeks of her life in the Fortress with Sebastian being at her service every now and then. “It’s amazing.”
“Sure it would, since you have been prancing around town with your knight in shiny armor.” Jaylen teased.
The table rounded with laughter. “Let her be Jaylen. No one asked you to ask for space from your lady.” Gabriella taunted.
“Thanks for rubbing it in grandma.” Jaylen said with sarcasm laced his words. “Damn!” He exclaimed.
“What’s wrong?” Meagan asked.
“I forgot my phone in my room. There is an important message from Chicago that I am suppose to respond to.” Jaylen mumbled.
Juno whose thoughts have been preoccupied with getting a chance away snatched it before anybody else. “I would help you bring it. I might as well visit the rest room.”
Jaylen grinned as he slapped his palms together. “You are such a sweetheart Juno. Thank you.”
“I was just about to go on your behalf.” Claire whined.
Meagan shook her head chuckling to herself. “Why are you always so keen on matching with Juno when it comes to your brothers, especially Jaylen?”
“She is so possessive of me!” Jaylen wiggled his brows.
Claire bleated in his way. “Don’t fool yourself.” She stood up. “I will get to my room real quick. I will be back soon.”
“Please don’t come back, I have plans to finish your deserts!” He called behind her.
“Don’t you dare touch anything of mine!” Claire threatened not turning back.
She made her way towards the stairs, looking behind to ensure no one was following her. Claire tiptoed her way towards the study. She had a gut feeling that Juno was up in the study again, searching again and she was right. Juno was scaling through the shelves vigorously like there was something she needed to get from it. Deciding not to do anything as stupid as confronting her after pulling out her phone, Claire made her way back downstairs.
Claire stared at her brother hard, wishing she could tell him what she had just seen but knowing Jaylen he would only call her bluff and say Juno must have needed to check for something real quick. She was certain that her suspicions of Juno weren’t out of spite. It explains why all of a sudden Juno who was always relaxed when around the house looks all tensed and her eyes darting back and forth. It surprised her that no one else seem to take note except her. With the insistence of her wolf, she would have to find someone to tell it to and it had to be someone who wouldn’t be biased in his judgement. She had someone in mind. After dinner she would definitely get in touch with Rex.
Juno returned few minutes after Claire returned to the dining room. She looked disheveled.
“Is everything okay Juno? Were you having a hard time in the restroom?” Meagan inquired looking worried.
“Not at all mom, I am fine.” Juno replied with a fake smile.
“She obviously had a hard time, those forehead sweats don’t look normal to me.” Claire taunted, trying to keep an eye contact with her but Juno did act suspicious by hiding her face.
Juno ignored Claire. She sat back down with her heart beating really fast. She hoped no one had taken notice of her when she had sneaked her way into the study. Jayden had been correct with his predictions of the map location. It had taken time but she been able to find the map eventually. And it gladdened her heart on how proud of her Jayden would be.
