THEME: A brother’s love
MOON STONE FORTRESS
Rex sat down in the study with his legs stretched out as he read through a book. Checking his time again, he realized that he had been sitting for close to thirty minutes and neither the Alpha nor Beta was around yet. He was beginning to feel too bored sitting all alone when he could have been doing something else.
Deciding to wait for another thirty minutes, he stood up to change the book he has in hand to something a bit more interesting.
“Do you need help with that? There are some nice collection of books in my room ranging from different genres.” Claire mused behind him.
Shutting his eyes tightly, Rex tried to focus on his breath as he turned to her. “Thanks, I am not much of a book reader. I just wanted to use it to reduce the boredom.”
“Then scrolling through your phone should do.” Claire said as she pulled out a chair to sit in.
“I am not much of a fan. It annoys me real quick.” Rex replied.
Rex watched for a moment as Claire got distracted by a puzzle box in her hand. She looked extremely cute with the way she pouted her lips and her lashes batting curiously at what she held in her hand. There was no doubt Claire would make one hell of a beautiful woman, but he wants nothing to do with a brat which she seems like. And considering how young she is to him, he would rather not involve himself in a complicated mess as such.
“A picture would last longer.” Claire told him as she had caught him staring at her.
“Oh…so…sorry. I just got carried away with the…puzzle in your hand.” He stuttered.
Not believing a word that he says, Claire stood up and creeped slowly towards him. “It really won’t hurt if we have just one lunch or dinner together. Do I need to beg you to do this?”
“Listen Claire, I…” Rex bit hard on his lips hating how much effect she had on him. He was almost about to say something really weird and stupid, when Jaylen and Sebastian walked in. He couldn’t be more grateful. Claire backed away from him in a hurry the moment she noticed her brother’s presence. She knew that pleased Rex very much as she watched him heave a sigh of relief.
“Why are you here, Claire?” Sebastian was the one who asked. Jaylen on the other hand had a tough look on his face. He didn’t appear to be in a good mood.
Claire stumbled on her words as her cheeks colored. “Oh, I…I was just checking for some books…real quick.” She smiled sheepishly before she scampered out of the study.
“That’s weird. She is most times a chatter box.” Sebastian noted.
Rex didn’t say anything as they all settled into separate chairs. He looked towards Jaylen. “The whole of the Fortress has been searched. Jayden is currently not here.”
Jaylen inhaled deeply. He had begged Sebastian and Rex to help find Jayden. He hasn’t been home for more than a week and everyone of them was growing worried, knowing it had never happened before that he stayed away from home for that long.
“Are you sure you searched well? What about the emergency rooms in the hospital? And I hate to say this, but what about the morgue? Do you think he is okay?” Worry was so evident in his tone.
Sebastian shifted in his seat uncomfortably. He could tell the worry on Jaylen’s face was out of sincerity and love for his twin brother. As much as Jaylen and his brother might not be on good terms, he still cares very much about him.
“I think it’s high time I tell you this.” He said.
“What?” Rex asked.
“Just go on with it Sebastian.” Jaylen raised his voice when Sebastian kept mute for a bit too long.
“I think I might know where he is. He is with the Rogues across the border. I am sure of that.” He said.
“What?” Rex mumbled.
“The Rogues?” Jaylen repeated. “Are you definite about your words? How did he get to know them in the first place?”
“I really do hope that is a joke.” Rex stated.
“Actually, the last time you had been here and had to leave, Jayden had been ignored by everybody else and including myself. And I guess he had no choice but to turn to them for support.” He tried to defend his best friend.
“Is this going to be a problem, Rex?” Jaylen questioned.
Rex cleared his throat. “There might be the case that his life might not be safe and-”
“They treat him well like a friend and he has been going there for a while with nothing going wrong with him.” Sebastian countered.
“Well, if you will let me finish first.” Rex said. Jaylen and Sebastian nodded for him to move on. “Like I was saying, just an hypothesis now, there might be some sort of plotting which would be fruitless because we have the strongest of our army by the gates of the Fortress which makes it uneasy for anyone to perpetrate us.”
Jaylen shook his head in disagreement. “Jayden might be everything, but the last thing he would plan for is an attack on his birth home. What do you think Sebastian?”
“Jaylen is right. Jayden would never stoop so low.” Sebastian added.
Rex raised his hand in surrender. “Fine…if you trust him that much. Whatever it is you say then. All I am saying is there really is no cause for alarm.” He shrugged.
“What would you both advice I do now? I am really tired at this point with all the ruckus of Jayden and I disagreeing on everything going on. Would it be okay for me to go find him?” Jaylen asked.
“You should wait on that for a while.” Sebastian said.
“Truth be told, I feel useless like nothing is being done.” Jaylen insisted.
“It’s just a matter of time. You would need to relax your mind first. I guess yourself and Sebastian can work through things in relation to the Fortress. That should get your mind a bit busy.” Rex said.
“Thanks man!” Jaylen muttered.
“Just doing my duty.” Rex sniffed.
The door opened, with Juno peeking her head inside. “Oh my, I am so sorry…I didn’t realize you are having a meeting.” She apologized, looking toward Jaylen.
“Oh we were just about to round up, I guess.” Rex looked towards Jaylen for approval.
Jaylen smiled as he shook his head. “We sure were. Come in Juno.” She walked up to him, causing Jaylen to ruffle her hair a bit. “How is my favorite pack protector doing?”
“Very well thank you.” She grinned cutely.
“We would head out now. I need to see Rosalyn real quick.” Sebastian announced as he stood up.
“Let me join you.” Rex added.
Jaylen checked through his wristwatch. “Errm, Juno. Give me some minutes I would be back soon. I need to check on someone.”
Juno waved at him. “Sure take your time.” She let out a long breath with eyes stylishly searching the room.
