MOON STONE FORTRESS
AT THE PACK HOUSE
Everyone appeared calm. The Beta and Deltas moved around swiftly trying to make the necessary arrangements. They had all accepted the truth of the matter, knowing Carl Damien didn’t have much time to live initially but had only been holding on to a tiny string of life which could be associated with Jaylen’s presence.
Jayden had been called and told of his father’s demise, he had returned from wherever he went to at first and stood rigidly by one corner of the room not saying anything to anyone. Meagan seem to be taking it quite well with Hazel and Brianna by her side. Gabriella had been taken in to rest with Mrs Swift. Claire sniffed at every passing second as she gets cuddled by her friends.
Only Jaylen was surrounded by his mother’s father and siblings. “Do you need me to get you something?” Penelope asked him.
Benjamin looked towards Collins as they exchanged an intentional glare. “How are you really feeling? I know this might sound cruel, but Carl has been a walking dead for months now. It is sad though.”
Collins nodded his head in agreement. “You need to stay strong and be firm now boy.” He added
“I know uncle, but it feels so surreal having him die in my arms like that.” Jaylen muttered.
Jasmine patted his back. “There, there, baby. You should take some fresh air.”
The others nodded in agreement with Jasmine’s suggestion. Obeying them, Jaylen made his way out of the house with Lorelei staring at his receding back discreetly. He walked towards the garden with the tears flowing nonstop. There wasn’t much of his father’s memories with him, but the moments they had been able to share he would cherish for a lifetime. As Jaylen headed towards the lake, he could remember clearly the night the both of them had stood by the lake and he had for the first time in more than a decade proclaim his love to his father.
The tears spilled out the more as he got on his knees and wailed into the night. The sadness he was feeling was ripping out his heart. There was no way he would be able to forget everything quickly. Jaylen’s mind spiraled as he stared blankly at the water.
Jayden stood from afar watching his brother grip the earth hard as he tried to muffle his cries. A part of him went out to him, knowing they were suppose to be consoling each other but Jayden fancied his ego over everything else in his life and he would never make an attempt to act against it.
“You should go to him.” Sebastian’s voice tingled his ear from behind.
Jayden snorted when he remembered they both weren’t on good terms. “I lost my father too. And I don’t want to talk to you.” He said, making an attempt to walk away.
Sebastian held him back and he gulped hard. He hates to beg but at the same time he wouldn’t want to make an enemy out of his childhood friend. “I am sorry man. But you acted like a beast. If I didn’t stop you, you would have hit my sister.”
Looking away from him, Jayden bit on his tongue. Deep down within him, he knew his behavior was irrational and unworthy. Moreover, Jayden had been having regrets since that time and had practically soaked himself in loads of alcohol.
Shutting his eyes tightly, Jayden turned towards Sebastian. “I am sorry too. I shouldn’t have done that to Lorelei. I wasn’t thinking.” He held out his hand for a shake but Sebastian ignored it and pulled him in for a tight hug.
“Damn it! You reek man!” Sebastian commented.
Jayden held back a smile. “Well… just a little.”
“How are you even sober? You just lost your dad.”
Jayden shrugged with his eyes still on Jaylen. “I had zeroed my mind knowing he would be leaving us soon. It might sound cruel but it is the exact truth.” He replied.
“I am so not going to agree with you. You should still look like you lost someone.”
“I am a soon to be alpha so there is a need to sweep my emotions under the blanket.”
Sebastian gulped at Jayden’s affirmation. He didn’t want to imagine the mess that would ensue in the Damien’s household now that the head of the family, Alpha Carl was dead. They both stood with their hands in their pockets, staring out into the dark at a disoriented Jaylen who seem like he might be contemplating on jumping into the lake in respect to his father.
Jayden’s wolf howled at the sadness of its twin and he could feel Jaylen’s pain too since a part of it was inflicted by him and every of Jaylen’s being was practically in pain. Somehow, Jayden felt a bit guilty knowing that his anger and jealousy had driven Jaylen far from home and deprived him of his parents love. Jaylen’s hurt could be well understood as that of a little child who just lost his parent. His father and Jaylen were just getting acquitted with each other. Jayden had seen the both of them on several occasions bonding even though he felt a bit angered at the scene but never took it to heart. No doubt, his twin brother at least deserved those moments.
Sebastian cut into his thoughts. “You don’t have to fight yourself so hard. Go to him.”
Jayden scoffed stubbornly. “Fuck that shit! He took my girl away from me.”
“Stop being silly, Lorelei was never your girl and you know it.” Sebastian countered.
“Thanks for reminding me.”
“You are welcome bro.” Sebastian bit on his lower lips.
Jayden chuckled. “I still haven’t finished locking my wounds, Jaylen had given me a mild scar. My ego is about deflating.”
“But it really hasn’t yet.”
“Just letting you know.”
“Should we be discussing this right now?”
“I am definitely getting fucked tonight to ease off the tension.” Jayden grinned sheepishly.
“I would whip you from the heavens if I was your father.” Sebastian laughed lightly.
Jayden joined in the laughter. “Thank goodness you aren’t my father.” He smirked.
Just as he attempted to respond, Sebastian’s eyes caught sight of Lorelei walking towards Jaylen. Knowing how mad Jayden can get again he tried to distract him.
“Let’s go see what is happening inside and probably help out.” Sebastian held Jayden’s back and turned it against the view.
Jayden tried shrugging off his hold. “Let me go. Everyone looks so gloomy I don’t want to be affected.”
Sebastian let out a tired sigh. “You my friend is one hell of work. Follow me now!” He pulled at him in a hurry just to ensure that Jayden wouldn’t have a chance to look back.
The moment they got back to the large living room, Sebastian released a long breath. At least he was glad that he had saved the pack house from experiencing another tragedy.
