MOON STONE FORTRESS
Walking into the house, Jaylen felt exhausted. After lunch with Lorelei, he had decided to visit the public library in a bid to find some sort of unfamiliar distraction. Heading towards his room, he was forced to halt his steps when Gabriella stood in his way.
Jaylen raised a brow, trying to show her how uninterested he was in indulging her excesses. “Please Granny. I am really tired.”
“What have you been up to all morning?” Gabriella questioned.
“And the last time I checked I am a full grown adult Granny. Please can you let me go.” He pleaded sounding really exhausted.
Gabriella observed him, she could tell he needed to have a quick nap and she wouldn’t want to be an obstruction to that. “Fine, I let you go but don’t miss dinner though.”
“Is it necessary?” Jaylen tried hard not to roll his eyes.
“Yes Jaylen, it is necessary. Your brother asked for everyone of us to eat together and it would be rude of us to decline. Rest up, freshen up and show up.”
“Did you just try working a rhyme?” Jaylen looked amused.
Gabriella wiggled her brows. “Did it work?”
Jaylen shook his head. “Well…maybe a little. I feel you should really stay away from Claire’s music playlist. It’s doing you no good.”
“Since you are so stingy with yours, Claire is thoughtful enough to let me have my way.”
“Claire still needs babysitting.”
“Hey handsome, I heard you mention my name.” Claire cooed from behind as she moved swiftly to place her arm on Jaylen’s shoulder.
Jaylen looked like he would break down in tears in the next few seconds. He doesn’t like being in the midst of his sister and grandmother as the both of them always make it a point of duty to frustrate him as much as they can.
“I just told her to stay away from you because it seems like she is adapting to some characters from you that doesn’t seem right for someone of her age.” Jaylen explained in a strained breath.
“But Granny is an awesome companion and she is fun to be with. It’s not like you have time to spend with me, especially now that you have a girlfriend.” Claire giggled at that.
“You know what? Pardon me for interfering in you both new found love for each other. You love birds should spare me please.” Before they could tie him down with another long discussion Jaylen sort for an escape.
Gabriella yelled after him. “Dinner is by seven!”
When he got to his room, Jaylen locked the door in a hurry like someone was chasing after him. The bed looked like the most beautiful thing he has ever seen as he slumped his weak body on it.
His wolf and senses have been working differently for a while and he really can’t seem to understand what is going on. All the while they were at the restaurant, he found himself being able to hear the thoughts of the others next to him. Aside the thought of Juno and Lorelei that stayed hidden he could tell what the others wanted for dinner. Also his eyes were becoming more saddled with visions that look more clearer and super scary as the day passes.
It was beginning to plow him down in a spiral road. To figure out what was going on he had gone down to the public library to read on the history of the Werewolf Bloodline and Hybrids with the hope of finding a book that would be an answer to his questions. Or more questions for him to start finding answers to and just as expected Jaylen didn’t find what he was looking for and he was keen on not sharing what he is feeling with anyone yet.
The strength he had gathered as of late was too real and overwhelming. When he feels the strange power he has to battle it out between himself and his wolf. It had only been occurring for a few days and it seemed like he had been experiencing it since birth.
Turning consistently for a few minutes, finally he found a good spot to eventually to sleep in.
He was only asleep for about an hour when all of a sudden Jaylen saw himself shifting into his wolf form and was in a terrible fight with his brother. Something significant about the figure is how huge and intimidating he looked in his wolf form and almost towering over Jayden. And in a twinkle of an eye he had pinned his brother down almost snuffing life out of him.
“Jaylen! Jaylen!” A distant voice called out to him.
Jaylen struggled with himself as he gripped the soft linens of the bed and he shook his head from side to side. Meagan pulled at her son again as she wondered what was wrong with him.
“Jaylen! Wake up! It’s me…” Her voice trailed as she shook him. Jaylen was sweating profusely and he seemed to be struggling hard as his eyes shut tightly.
Understanding that he might be having a nightmare when it is not even late yet. Meagan settled properly next to him and she rubbed at his face gently.
“It’s okay baby, it’s just a dream.” She cooed.
Jaylen’s eye flared opened widely at her words. “Jaylen.” She whispered.
“Where am I?” He asked feeling his throat dry.
“You are home baby.” Meagan replied.
Jaylen exhaled as he sat up slowly on the bed. “Mom.” He leaned further into his mother’s embrace.
“You will be fine…baby.” She rubbed his back gently.
“Thanks mom.”
“What’s the matter honey?”
Jaylen withdrew from the embrace and shook his head. “It’s nothing at all mom, just a dream.” Getting out of the bed, he struggled to keep his feet on the ground for a while as he headed towards the bathroom.
Meagan wondered what he was dreaming about. She hoped it wasn’t what she had been discussing with Carl. Carl had mentioned some changes Jaylen would begin to experience as explained in the book. Carl has been reading to figure out a way to help his son cope with his new found self.
Her heart beat paced up as the thought of Jaylen being pressured by the said power that he is expected to protect the Fortress with. If she had the chance she wouldn’t mind going back in time to stop all of this troubles her children have to endure.
Meagan heaved a sigh as she stood up to leave. Jaylen came out at the same time, rubbing at his hair with a towel. He looked more relaxed than the other time.
“Sorry to bother you mom. Thanks for soothing me. Why are you here?” Jaylen inquired.
“Anytime baby. Dinner is ready.” She announced.
Jaylen paused with what he was doing for a moment. “Dinner?”
“Yes dinner.”
“I thought Granny and Claire were trying to pull my legs again like they always do. Do you know why Jayden wants to have dinner with everyone of us?”
Meagan shrugged. “I guess he just wants time with us.”
“I know it’s meant to be a joyous thing. But Jayden is really acting weird, I hope he is actually not trying to mess with me?”
Meagan walked towards him and she patted his cheek. “Let us go through this first, please baby.”
Jaylen kissed her palm with a small smile on his face. He nodded. “Alright mum.”
Meagan smiled. “Don’t stay too long.”
” I would be down then in three minutes.” He said to her.
Meagan shook her head as she motioned out of the room. She wished for sanity sake that Jayden wasn’t trying to mess with their heads.
