When the Uber dropped Lucas in front of the villa, he scrambled into the compound but as he bustled for the door, Danika’s presence had him stop in his track.
Danika wore a deadpan expression on her face as she takes in the worn-out look on Lucas’s face.
“Are you done with the meeting?” She asked. A smile part her lips when Lucas drew to a halt in front of her.
“Yes. We just rounded up.” He said, meeting her gaze.
“That’s nice. It’s good you’re back, hun.” She said and Lucas got a hint of the joy lingering on her face.
It’s unlike Danika to await his return by the door. She must be up to something but he can’t quite pinpoint what it is.
“What? You look at me as if you’ve never seen me before.” She gushed, pouting her lips.
Lucas waved her off but as he tried to venture into the house she draped her arm over his shoulders and whispered something to him.
Danika dragged him into the house and she hurriedly took the remote control and switch on the flat-screen TV. She pressed a particular channel and the news clouded the screen.
“What’s with the news?” Lucas asked not paying attention to the news but to the woman in front of him.
Danika cackled. “You’re being silly, Lucas. Can’t you read the headline?” She asked, scooting closer to him.
Lucas’s eyes traveled to the screen and he read the trending headline.
Headline: Lucas Evangelista and his long-time fiancée Danika, a very popular lady, have finally decided to tie the knot after six years of being engaged.”
Lucas spotted reporters asking people questions about how they visualize the upcoming nuptials would be.
“How is it?” She asked, releasing a long breath. “Oh, I also made sure to tag the headline in papers too. I want the whole state to ramble about the wedding. It’s going to be a hit.” She hummed, pouting her lips.
“Wow. This…is wonderful Danika. I like it.” Lucas exclaimed but the bubbling feeling in his chest claws his skin. “I really like it. It’s been a long we’ve been engaged so it definitely deserves the trend. It’ll attract more attention you know, considering we’ve been together for a long.” He sputtered, laughing hysterically.
Danika was appeased by his response. It’s just the opposite of what she expected from Lucas.
“It seems this meeting flipped a switch inside you. I wasn’t really expecting your comment at all.” She gushed and nestled on her tiptoes to sprinkle a chaste kiss on Lucas’s lip.
“Needless to say, Danika. It did flip a switch inside me.” Lucas said admittedly. “So how’s the arrangement going? Anything I can help with?” He asked.
On normal grounds, Lucas should have been the one making arrangements for the wedding but the table was spun around and Danika happened to be the one putting things together for the wedding. Not like Lucas gives a shit. In fact, he loves the way she makes the arrangements herself he wouldn’t want to be hassled with that.
Danika sighed and threw the remote control on the couch. “it’s hectic believe me but I’m doing it regardless.” She spewed, her voice taking on a whisper.
“I see. Just give it your best. You can always call me if my help is needed.” He muttered in finality.
Lucas twirled around to head to the stairs but Danika’s yelp nudged him to pause.
“Omigod,” Danika yelled, staring at Lucas with indignation.
Lucas turned and asked, “any problem? He cocked his thick brows.
“Where were you, Lucas? I demand the truth.” She gushed. The harshness in which her voice takes on puzzled Lucas much less her question.
“I told you, Danika. I was in a meeting.” He asserted, aiming to read the expression on her contorted face.
“What meeting is it?” She roared, crossing the distance between them.
Lucas was appalled by her question and he turned on his heels and hastened to the stairs.
“I demand an answer, Lucas!” She yelled, trailing to catch up with Lucas’s long strides.
“I’ve told you the only truth I know.” His voice sent echoes across the walls of the hallway as he dived into his room.
“Oh, really you’ve given the truth you have, Lucas?” Danika howled, her breath turned ragged. She double-crossed Lucas in the room and assembled in front of him, crossing her arms over her chest.
“You went to a meeting where they give hickeys and fingers scratch, isn’t it?” She gritted out. Her eyes held fire. She can’t believe she believed Lucas’s sermon of lies.
She began to put the scattered pieces of puzzle together. Lucas claimed he went to a meeting but dressed in nothing that shows he actually went to a meeting. He’s on nothing but a sleeveless T-shirt and sweatpants.
Who goes to a meeting dressed like that? Danika’s heart hammered into the wall of her chest at what she saw.
Lucas clamped his lips shut. He fucking forgot to do something about the hickey and scratches from last night’s wild sex.
“You can’t find another sermon lies to spill right?” She teased. Taking three strides toward Lucas, she punched a finger on his chest, seething.
“I was busy making insufferable arrangements for our upcoming nuptials and you went out to Fuck! And have the temerity to feed me with lies?” She barked.
Lucas jittered at the sound of her voice. Danika is becoming more insufferable but he has nothing to do.
“Danika…it’s not that. I…I…” Before he could conjure reasonable lies again, Danika wrestled with the zipper of her dress.
She let the dress slip from her shoulders down to her heels. She unclasped the hook of her bra, leaving her chest bare.
Lucas dragged his gaze down her creamy skin and breasts.
“What are you doing?” He asked tearing his eyes away from her nude.
Danika stepped away from the dress and flip-flops. Her bare feet meets the cold hardwood floor while her eyes held indignation as she fixed it on Lucas’s face.
“It’s not want I think, right?” She asked, her voice dropped to a whisper. “Then prove it to me, Lucas. Prove to me that that hickey on your nape and shoulders isn’t proof of you fucking someone else .” She demanded.
Lucas’s heart constricted with anger. He wants to retain the smell of Sia’s body on him but Danika wants to snatch that away.
A mind-numbing nauseating feeling rises in his chest. His saliva turned sour he couldn’t swallow it down.
He dragged his eyes around Danika’s body perplexed on what he should do.
“Danika…” He called but she cut him off instantly.
“Prove it, Lucas.” She yelled.
Lucas slammed his eyes shut, the nauseating feeling gnaws his insides and the confusion brewing in his mind made his breath turn into a stuttering mess.
He took two short strides toward her, and their breaths mingled. She glued her eyes on his face and spotted Lucas squint his eyes and purse his lips.
Lucas raised his two hands and cupped her breasts. She clamped her eyes shut at the contact and chew on her lower lip.
With anger roving through him, he pinched her nipples, hard, Danika winced.
He scooted his lips closer to take her lip with his teeth but that gnawing nausea took over. He howled under his breath and dashed into the washroom where he dunked his mouth in the sink and retched the contents in his mouth.
Danika was baffled. She hastened into the bathroom and saw Lucas scratching his nape with his fingers while retching.
“Are you okay?” A worried look hovered over her face.
Lucas looked at her through his lashes, his lips littered with disgusting white contents.
“No. I think I’ve a fever.” He wheezed and zeroed his gaze on the sink. He turned on the faucet and brimmed his palms with water and wash his lips and mouth.
“Maybe you should head to the hospital.” She spoke worriedly. Lucas shook his head still scratching his nape with his fingers. He believes it’s the cold pizza he ate at Ethan’s place.
Lucas hardly snacks on junk without nuking it ’cause it makes him nauseous.
“It started last night while at the meeting but I already took some pills. I’ll give it time. If it doesn’t stop, then I’ll head to the hospital.” He murmured.
When he scooted close to Danika he lowered his lips to kiss her but she dragged her face away.
“You just retched. You can’t kiss me.” She said a bit repulsed.
Lucas feigned annoyance by cocking his brows.
“But I need to prove something to you…”
“Not anymore. What happened is convincing enough.” She gushed and trailed into the bedroom.
“Good you bought the act.” Lucas hummed under his breath.
