Ava went to the bathroom. She stood in front of her mirror. She tried to keep a straight face. But she could not. She wheezed at first, then all of a sudden began crying.
“No, no, no, no, no,” she cried lowly.
“Oh no dear goddess, he cannot die. You cannot let him die,” she prayed.
“Ava are you alright?” Lily called from the room. Ava cleared her throat.
“Yes! I am. I am fine, just using the toilet,” her voice broke. Ava did not say anything again. Neither did Lily ask her any question.
“Dear goddess, I beg you with all the perfection you embody, do not let him die. Do not let my Alpha die,” she prayed and sat on the sink.
After fee minutes of crying, she calmed herself, and it seemed only then did she come to her senses. She wondered why she had such outburst at the mention of his death. Her wolf whimpers.
“I know, I know,” Ava whispered.
“I know he is our mate but look at how we love. Look at how he treats us. He never treated us well,” Ava said.
“I agree, yet,” her wolf tried correcting her.
“I know. The goddess has not changed him for us, but I don’t love him anymore. And you fear him. Remember how he hurt you twice?” Ava reminded her wolf.
She does not like the fact that she made it so obvious to Lily that she likes her brother. Ava could still feel her heart pound. She doesn’t know if it’s because of the complications of her feelings.
She wants to hate Alpha Jax. She wants to be far away from him. She wants to be with Benjamin. The one who has always been there for her. Even though once in a while, Benjamin does slip up, Ava is convinced it is mostly based on the order of Alpha Jax.
But she can’t hate him yet. The goddess still has them bound together. She could marry Benjamin without the goddess breaking the bond of mate between her and Alpha Jax, but she would still be drawn to him. She knows these and it makes her hate Alpha Jax more. She regretted having to cry over him, even if it was for a short period of time.
She went out to meet Lily. Lily is still on the bed looking into the mirror before her. Ava knows she is not checking herself. The sort of expression Lily has on her is not the kind for someone checking themselves out.
“You know, he took mentorship and lessons from my uncle against acting on a whim. He was taught how to think things through. How to be patient, and let others defend you before you act,” Lily said. She kept staring at the mirror.
“He will be fine,”
“He has to be. He better be fine. The line of succession cannot end with him. Our entire clan ended because of the Alpha title and it won’t end with him,” Ava is surprised at what Lily said. She can not believe Lily just said all that she heard. It’s weird to know that Lily is only concerned about her brother, because of the position of being an Alpha.
“He is my only living brother, I love him. He must not die and leave me alone to the world,” Lily said. Ava sighed, still surprised at Lily’s earlier statement.
“He will be fine,” Ava hugged Lily, while sitting.
The door opened suddenly, and Benjamin came in.
“What?” Lily screamed at him furiously.
“My lady, I did not know you are in here,” Benjamin apologized to Lily.
“How do you enter a lady’s room without knocking?” Lily frowned.
“It’s Alpha Jax’s rule,” Ava replied.
“Jax tells him not to knock?”
“Yes, I remember how he once slapped him from knocking,” Ava defended Benjamin. Ava walked close to Benjamin. She held his hands.
“I heard what happened to Alpha Jax,” Ava said. Benjamin looked at Lily.
“Are you okay?” Benjamin asked.
“Yeah, I am fine. It came as a shock but I am better now,” she smiled.
“I might have to leave now,” Benjamin announced.
“No! You can’t. You should not leave me alone now,” she begged him.
“I am not leaving you alone. I have other tasks to fulfill. Will be back with you once I am done. By the way, you have Lady Lily with you,” Benjamin look at Lily again, and Ava turn to her.
If Lily had been told about what’s happening right before her, she will not believe it. Ava is friendly with Benjamin, and he is returning her warmly. When Ava turned towards lily, she saw the concern in Ava’s eyes. It’s not the concern that comes with bad new. But it’s that of interest in someone. Lily felt it might be too soon for her to jump into conclusion.
She is not happy with what is before her. She likes Ava because her mother likes Ava. She cares for Ava’s happiness because she likes Ava. And she wants Ava to be with her brother because she likes Ava. But it seem Ava already has someone else she is interested in. The cause of saving Ava for her brother might be lost. It’s something she should forget.
Lily does not blame Ava. She remember how Alpha Jax had treated Ava when she just joined. Also, she can not blame Ava because her brother never showed her warmth. Lily only feels betrayed because she has been shipping her brother and Ava.
“I don’t think I can stay long. I want to be alone for the main time. I only came to tell Ava what happened,” Lily lied. Amidst concern for her brother’s health and what she just saw between Ava and Benjamin, she left the room more sober than she came.
Ava looked at Lily leave the room.
“Did you notice that she lied?” Benjamin asked.
“No! Maybe she did to leave us alone, not to hurt us. But please, do not leave,” she begged Benjamin. She hugged him tight.
“Alright, I will stay,” he sighed, and hugged her back.
