Chapter 299: A Fierce-looking Mask

Book:The Warlord Is Back Published:2024-5-31

When Rosey Chambers returned from grocery shopping, she found that there was no one in the house, only her unconscious grandmother lying in bed.
“Where is everyone?”
Rosey Chambers searched around and found a note on the bedside table.
“We’re out to take care of some business. Cook dinner later. For now, make some porridge for your grandmother. Make the porridge thin but cook it longer, until it’s soft, preferably for about an hour. Don’t feed her too much. Tonight, I’ll bring back some medicine.”
The note was very detailed.
“Thank you.”
A touch of gratitude welled up in Rosey Chambers’ heart.
In fact, she knew her situation. A simple country girl from a rural village, she came to the big city where many people pretended to be good to her, but in reality, they were just coveting her body.
But she could feel that Robin was a good person.
“Ah-choo!”
In the car, Robin sneezed.
“Sir, who’s cursing you?” Jeff Reczek laughed.
“No cursing, maybe they’re praising me. I bet it’s that little girl, Rosey Chambers!” Robin joked back.
“Maybe not, perhaps she’s scolding you for not understanding her feelings.”
“Feelings? Nonsense.”
The two teased each other for a while.
By this time, they had arrived at their destination. The sky had darkened, and everything was shrouded in gray. However, at the hotel, there were still people coming and going.
At the entrance, one luxury car after another was parked, and the people entering and leaving were all dressed in gold and silver, the upper-class.
Above the entrance was a huge sign: Night Dance Party.
Robin got out of the car, looked up, and said, “At a time like this, they still have the mood for a dance party. Maybe these cats have been caged for too long and think they’re tigers.”
The enemy was approaching, but there was no sense of crisis.
“Invitation, please.”
The security guard at the door gave Robin and Jeff Reczek a glance, and seeing that they weren’t dressed fancily enough, his tone was not very enthusiastic and even somewhat dismissive.
“Hmph.”
Although Jeff Reczek was somewhat dissatisfied, he didn’t make a fuss.
He handed the invitation to the guard.
“Sure enough, it’s a fifth-class invitation.”
After a glance, the guard’s disdain grew, as there were five types of invitations, representing each person’s social status. Jeff Reczek’s was the fifth-class, the lowest.
Having said that, the guard tossed the invitation aside.
He then took out a pile of masks.
“Which one do you want? This time it’s a masquerade ball.”
The guard’s tone was indifferent, even somewhat dismissive.
“A mask? I don’t need one. I brought my own.”
Robin took out a half-tusk mask from his pocket.
Seeing the mask, the guard shuddered involuntarily, a strange chill rising from his heart. He was initially disinterested and even felt sleepy, but now he was suddenly wide awake.
“Alright, alright, just go.”
The guard hurriedly urged them on.
“Hmph.”
Jeff Reczek snorted again, taking out a cute rabbit mask.
It was a very cute rabbit mask, completely at odds with his burly figure.
After the two left, the guard finally felt the chill disappear. He suddenly sat down on the ground, wiping his forehead, “What’s wrong with me? Is there something weird about that mask? No way, those two poor guys couldn’t possibly have such a strange mask. I must be sick and feverish, that’s why I feel this way, definitely.”
Then, he touched the cold sweat on his face and continued guarding the entrance.
Meanwhile, Robin and Jeff Reczek had entered the dance party. The spacious ballroom covered thousands of square meters, looking very grand with its resplendent lights. Underneath were tables with red wine on them.
Everyone was dressed in suits or gowns, tall and handsome.
An imposing and noble atmosphere.
Their faces were covered with handsome or cute masks.
In contrast, Robin and Jeff Reczek stood out like sore thumbs, like country bumpkins.
Upon seeing the two of them, most people in the room had a trace of mockery in their eyes. Soon, those who had entered with Robin earlier knew that he held a fifth-class invitation and immediately began to snicker quietly. In no time, the laughter spread everywhere.
“Jeff Reczek, we just arrived, and we’re already being laughed at.”
Robin glanced at Jeff Reczek with a hint of amusement.
“Sir, this is my mistake.” Jeff Reczek lowered his head.
He actually stole his invitation from someone, and he hadn’t paid attention when he took a fifth-class one.
“What mistake? Really. A fifth-class invitation is still pretty good. At least we can be carefree and unrestricted, right?”
Robin smiled, sat down in a chair, picked up a glass of red wine, and drank it like a normal beverage.
“Do you bumpkins know how much a bottle of this red wine costs? A hundred thousand per bottle.”
A young man with a side part, wearing a luxury watch and looking somewhat like a fresh-faced idol, glanced at them and disdainfully said with a rather loud voice, clearly intended for Robin to hear.
However, Robin ignored him and quietly took out his own mask to put it on. Instantly, the young man stiffened, and his pupils shrank. But in the next second, he returned to normal.
“Mr. Chase, what’s wrong?”
Someone nearby noticed his abnormality and asked.
“I don’t know… No… It’s nothing… Nothing.”
Tim Chase shook his head, indicating he was fine. However, he found a place to sit down and rest for a moment. He didn’t know what had just happened to him; it felt as if his heart had been crushed and his blood had stopped flowing. He experienced a brief sensation of impending death, but fortunately, it only lasted a second. After that, he returned to normal. But that one second felt worse than death.
“Didn’t sleep well last night?”
Tim Chase tapped his head with lingering fear. He assumed it was due to not sleeping well the night before. He was completely unaware that he had glanced at a mask just moments ago.
By this time, Robin had already put on his mask. However, he suppressed the mask’s killing aura, so everything appeared normal, and nobody felt anything unusual. It was not yet time for chaos; they still had to wait for some key figures to appear.
“Your mask…”
But when Robin saw the mask Jeff Reczek was wearing, he almost couldn’t hold back his laughter. Because Jeff had put on a rabbit mask with a pair of big white ears. It looked rather scary, but combined with his figure, it seemed quite harmonious.
“Fiona and Leslie gave this to me. They both said it looks best on me.”
Jeff Reczek didn’t care. As long as those two girls said the mask looked good on him, it must look good.
After the two laughed at each other for a while, a woman walked over wearing a long dress with a perfect figure, a slit at the waist revealing a glimpse of fair skin that made all the men nearby yearn. She had red lips, a small pouting mouth, and watery eyes. She wore a pink mask, adding a touch of seductiveness to her mature beauty.
“Handsome guy, nice mask, very fierce. Interested in having a drink?”
