Chapter 287: Elise: He Still Owes Me a Wedding

Meanwhile, at Autumn Bay, Robin was stationed with his troops.
“Sir, the patient is awake.”
A military doctor walked out of the tent and reported to Robin with a complicated expression.
“Mm.”
Robin nodded.
After being unconscious for two days, the patient finally woke up today.
Then, Robin and his men entered the tent.
Inside the tent, a young man in a patient gown sat with an empty sleeve on his right side, staring blankly at the quilt, looking like a living dead.
“Reese.”
Robin called out.
Upon hearing this, Reese Daniels slowly raised his head, looked at Robin, and forced a smile, “I’m fine. Losing an arm won’t hinder me. I can still fight on the battlefield.”
That smile was somewhat pale.
A little stubborn.
And somewhat on the verge of collapsing.
“You’re just like your father.”
Robin looked at Reese Daniels, a hint of complexity flashing in his eyes.
This kid had grown up.
He and Evan Daniels were both from military backgrounds and had fought together in the past. They had a deep friendship, considering each other as brothers in arms. As Evan Daniels’ son, Reese was known for one thing: mischief.
From a young age, he was extremely mischievous.
Wherever he could cause trouble, he would. He had caused trouble in South Border and Eastern Kisia, always rebellious. Evan Daniels would always clean up after him and apologize.
Evan Daniels would often tie Reese up and beat him.
Evan Daniels, who was over six feet tall with a face full of beard, looked fierce and stern when he wasn’t smiling. But when he smiled, he had an inexplicable amiable and approachable demeanor.
The last time they had met was three years ago.
Unexpectedly, in the blink of an eye, they had learned of this disaster. The heritage family, the Harding family, had betrayed the country and teamed up with foreign assassins and South Land to breach South Border.
Evan Daniels had died in battle!
His only son, Reese, had almost died, too, but had lost an arm instead.
“Bro.”
Suddenly, Reese Daniels looked up at Robin.
“Speak.”
“When you attack South Border City, can I be the vanguard? Those bastards hung my dad’s corpse on the city wall and left it to dry for three days and nights. That’s my dad! Although he could be a jerk sometimes, he’s still my dad!”
As he spoke, Reese Daniels seemed to lose control and roared.
His eyes were bloodshot.
Although he had always been annoyed with Evan Daniels and called him an old man, he had always been proud of his father.
But now, his father was dead.
His body was still hanging on the city wall, exposed to the sun for three days, unable to rest in peace.
“Alright.”
Robin walked over to him, placing his hand on Reese’s neck and knocking him out with a clang.
“Sleep for a few more days. When you wake up, come with me to attack the city.”
Robin looked at him and whispered.
The current Reese Daniels was already seriously injured, and his body was severely depleted. If he continued to be emotionally agitated, it might cause problems. It was better to let him sleep.
A good night’s sleep.
Rest and recover.
“Evan, wait for me. I won’t make you wait too long.”
A cold light flashed in Robin’s eyes.
He would definitely let his brother rest in peace.
The sun blazed down on Evan Daniels’ corpse, serving two purposes. The first was to intimidate the entirety of South Border, sending a message to the people of South Border that their lord, the guardian of the border, was dead, and this was his current state. The second purpose was revenge. South Border stood as a barrier to the south, and Evan Daniels was no pushover. He wouldn’t passively take a beating; he was a ruthless man of his generation. Thus, someone was seeking revenge against him.
“No matter who it is, I’ll remember this debt,” Robin murmured as he stepped out of the tent. At that moment, Maclean Lyons approached to report, “Sir, during this rebellion, something seems amiss in St. Sunday, the largest city in South Border. Some forces appear to have defected, and there are traces of the Lambert family’s activities.”
“St. Sunday?” Robin muttered.
St. Sunday, situated by the South Border Canal, was a prosperous city with a strong military presence. The South Land army had yet to conquer it, but the city was already showing signs of instability.
“Maclean Lyons.”
“Yes, sir.”
“After I leave, the Ghost Wolf Iron Cavalry will be under your command. You’re responsible for keeping them hidden and occasionally revealing their presence in eastern South Border. If you encounter the enemy, don’t act hastily. Then, in three days, lead a hundred thousand Ghost Wolf Iron Cavalry to St. Sunday.”
“Yes, sir.”
Maclean Lyons obeyed the order, but the next second, he looked up at Robin in surprise and asked, “Sir, are you leaving?”
“Yes,” Robin replied with his hands behind his back. “St. Sunday is a great place right now, the largest city in South Border, a real treasure. How could I not take a look and appreciate the ancient city’s scenery?”
St. Sunday had nothing scenic about it now; it was on the verge of being engulfed in the flames of war. However, Maclean Lyons had a rough idea of what his commander intended to do. St. Sunday was in western South Border, while the order Robin had given him concerned the eastern part. It seemed the commander was planning to set a trap.
“Jeff Reczek, let’s go and appreciate the ancient city’s scenery,” Robin called out.
“Alright,” Jeff Reczek immediately followed.
Jeff Reczek was a great general, but he was more of a fierce warrior than a good strategist. He could fight but commanding an army in a battle where a single mistake could lead to the nation’s downfall was difficult. Moreover, he didn’t enjoy leading troops; he preferred to pick fights. So Maclean Lyons would take command as he had done for many years.
The two men left the Ghost Wolf Iron Cavalry and headed towards St. Sunday.
“Sir, what are we going to do in St. Sunday?” Jeff asked.
“We’re going fishing, for a big fish,” Robin replied.

Stillwater.
The Houry family villa.
On the balcony, Elise was helping Leslie with her homework. But Leslie, with her head bowed, looked up at her mother with her adorable big eyes and asked timidly, “Mom, where’s Dad? He hasn’t been home for days. Leslie misses him.”
“He probably abandoned you and ran away,” Karen, who was inside eating sunflower seeds and watching a TV show, said with disdain before Elise could answer.
“Mom, that’s not true,” Elise immediately explained.
“Not true? He said he’d be back in seven days. Is he back? Not only is he not back, we can’t even reach him on the phone. As for your claim that Robin is Mr. X, that’s even more ridiculous. Come on, daughter, can you make up an even more outrageous story? I know you’ve fallen for Robin, but you can’t lie like this for him. Use your brain!” Karen sneered whenever Robin was mentioned. Mr. X was the same as Robin, that good-for-nothing loser. What a joke.
Seeing that she couldn’t convince her mother, Elise decided not to explain further. Instead, she gently stroked Leslie’s head, her voice soft as water, “Your father will be back in a few days. He said that when he returns, he’ll hold the grandest wedding for me.”
“The grandest wedding? Ha, that pauper can’t afford it. If it costs more than a million, I’ll jump from this second floor. I mean it,” Karen spat out a sunflower seed shell, full of confidence.
Robin, that poor wretch, couldn’t possibly afford a grand wedding. Nonsense.
“Silly girl.”
Rodney was in the room, watching this scene, and sighed. He regretted it a bit; Robin, that useless fellow, had actually managed to bewitch his daughter so much.
He really couldn’t understand it.
He regretted it.
How could a toad like Robin be a match for his daughter?
