Chapter 238: Feeling Sorry for Pann!

It’s over!
This sentence was like a huge rock falling onto a calm sea, causing a massive wave.
However, no one dared to question Robin’s words.
“Thank you, Primus.”
The key was that, even with this punishment, the two brothers had to kowtow to Robin in gratitude. They were extremely thankful that Robin didn’t wipe out their family.
They had no idea what else they could do.
And whatever they did it would be useless.
This person was the Primus of Kisia, an invincible existence.
“By the way, clean up this cemetery,” Robin said.
“Yes,” Harvey Blake replied repeatedly.
“Primus, do we need to send someone to maintain the cemetery from now on?” Matthew Grant asked on the side.
He meant that a general should not be buried in such a humble graveyard.
However, Robin waved his hand, “No need. Pann lived a simple life and didn’t like extravagance. Just keep it clean, it’s fine. By the way, do you know his family?”
“I’ll look it up right away,” Matthew Grant said.
“Good.”
Robin didn’t blame Matthew Grant.
When Pann had died, his death had not been reported to North Town, because Pann’s old mother was already in her seventies, in poor health, and unable to bear the shock. Once the news reached her, it was feared that the old mother’s life would not last long. This was mentioned in Pann’s will. Pann had been dead for three years, and during these years, he had been busy with wars and could not come to visit in time. Today, he had to see her, as Pann’s mother was also his mother; they were comrades in arms and brothers.
Half an hour later, Matthew Grant returned with a somewhat grim expression. “She’s at 89 Sixth Avenue, selling sweet potatoes,” he reported. It was shocking that a fallen officer’s elderly mother had to resort to selling sweet potatoes. If word got out, it would be a disgrace for him as the person in charge of the North Town military area.
“I’ll go and see her. You don’t have to follow,” Robin gestured. Matthew Grant and the others didn’t need to accompany him, as their presence would draw too much attention. After all, Matthew Grant was the highest-ranking official in North Town. If seen by others, it would create a huge stir.
“Yes,” Matthew Grant nodded, but he was always ready for the call to assemble. Being summoned by Primus of Kisia was an honor!
Robin, Jeff Reczek, and Nick arrived at 89 Sixth Avenue as Matthew Grant had said. It was near a school, and there was an old, worn-out car, but it was kept clean. Approaching, they saw an elderly woman, wearing a ragged brown coat, her face wrinkled, and her body hunched. She was not only old in age, but her body was also showing signs of aging. However, she was still able to grill sweet potatoes with some difficulty.
At that moment, a few middle school students came out of the school and impolitely demanded, “Old nag, give us some sweet potatoes, on credit.” Their tone suggested that this wasn’t their first time doing this.
“Alright, alright,” the old woman didn’t refuse and grilled the sweet potatoes. In no time, the sweet potatoes were ready, and the students took them and swaggered away without paying or even saying thank you.
Robin walked up to the old woman and asked, frowning, “Grandma, do those kids always come here to get food on credit? Have they ever paid you back?”
“They’re just children,” the old woman shook her head, not intending to dwell on the matter. However, a middle school girl passing by overheard their conversation and indignantly told Robin, “Sir, those guys are really annoying. They literally never paid. They act as if this is their own home. And if this lady refuses to give them food, they would mess up her stall.”
“They would break things or steal stuff, just to prevent this lady from doing business. They’re really bad people,” the girl clearly disliked those mischievous kids.
Robin gave Jeff Reczek a look, and Jeff immediately left. A few minutes later, he returned with a handful of change and told Robin, “Sir, that’s all the money they had on them. I told them to come and work for the lady voluntarily to repay the debt.”
“You didn’t use excessive force, did you?”
“No, of course not. They just cried a bit, but nothing serious,” Jeff Reczek scratched his head.
Robin gave Jeff a glance, but he knew that although Jeff was a military madman, he could control his strength. If he said it was fine, it definitely was. Jeff had that ability.
“Grandma, this is the money those kids paid you. They said they’ve turned over a new leaf and won’t do this kind of thing anymore. They’ll also come and help you with your stall,” Robin handed the money to the old woman.
After Jeff Reczek’s lesson, those kids would definitely behave. After all, they were the ones in the wrong, and they wouldn’t dare make a fuss.
“Really? Young man, thank you so much,” the old woman hadn’t expected the money to ever come back. She gratefully took it and carefully placed the money into an old wallet she had embroidered herself.
A flicker of doubt flashed through Robin’s eyes. Years ago, he had someone come back specially to take care of the old woman, even buying her a house. There was also a salary card left by Pann, with tens of millions on it. But now, how could things be like this?
“Old woman, we’re Pann’s comrades in arms, and we came here specially for you,” Robin said softly. He didn’t mention that Pann had been killed in action; everyone else could be told about the death, but not the old woman, because her heart wasn’t good and she couldn’t handle such a shock.
“You’re my son’s comrades, right? Ok, please sit down…”
The old woman tried to invite Robin to sit, but realized there were no extra chairs. She immediately handed her own chair to Robin and turned to roast sweet potatoes. Opening her mouth, which was missing quite a few teeth, she smiled and said, “Wait a moment, I don’t have much to treat you, but I can roast a couple of sweet potatoes for you.”
“Please, it’s not necessary.”
Robin repeatedly tried to dissuade her. After some persuasion, the old woman finally gave up on roasting the sweet potatoes and looked at Robin with a beaming smile. She asked, “Mister, can I ask you, how is my son doing on the front lines? Is he holding any of you back? That boy has always been stubborn about certain things, and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
“He later met a good person and went to Eastern Kisia, a battlefield, to become a soldier. I supported him in this decision, as it’s about protecting our country. He hasn’t been back for years, and there’s been no correspondence, but I understand. If he causes trouble, just report it and let the higher-ups give him a good lesson.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t mind, as long as he doesn’t hold you guys back.”
As the old woman spoke, a hint of longing appeared in her eyes.
“Please don’t worry, Pann has been doing very well. He was promoted to an officer and became a great hero. It’s just that he’s busy over there now and can’t come back. So, he had us come to visit you specifically.”
Robin felt a bit complicated inside.
He felt so sorry.
“That’s good to hear.”
The old woman didn’t really understand the concept of officers, but she knew that her son hadn’t backed down, was fine, and had even made achievements. There was a trace of happiness in her eyes.
