“What did you say?!”
These three words made Isadora Brighton, who was initially showing off her beauty, freeze in place. Her face became rigid as she stared at Robin, disbelief written all over it.
He looked down on her?
A son-in-law who married into a family of nobodies dared to look down on her?
“Damn it, Robin, what do you think you are? You’re just a son-in-law who married into a family of nobodies! You’re useless, scum, a loser, and you dare to look down on me?!” Isadora Brighton was furious.
Despite being considered one of the top beauties in Stillwater, she was being looked down upon by a loser. It felt like a heavy blow to her self-esteem.
However, Robin only glanced at her and quickly looked away.
This woman was going mad.
He didn’t need to pay her any mind.
He turned to Lacey Willis and asked, “Do you need to rest for a bit? I can watch her for you.”
“Ah, you loser! How dare you walk away? Do you know who I am? I am the niece of Constance Brighton, the head of the first family in Stillwater, the Brighton family, and the next heir! You dare to walk away?”
Isadora Brighton’s voice echoed as she pounded on the iron door.
But neither Robin nor Lacey Willis paid her any attention.
“No need, just a little while longer.”
Lacey Willis checked the time. In a short while, someone would come to take Isadora Brighton away. Then she could relax, and her promise would be fulfilled.
She would bring Isadora Brighton to the stand for judgment.
As people always said, time flied. Soon, three police officers walked in, holding a document. One of them handed it to Lacey Willis, saying, “Sergeant Willis, this is the transfer order.”
This was the last step.
Once the inspection was complete, they could send her to the stand for judgment.
“How come you’re so early? Isn’t it a bit ahead of schedule?” Lacey Willis asked, frowning.
There were still ten minutes left.
“There was a situation. We need to start the trial early,” one of the officers replied.
“What happened?”
“That’s not for you to ask.”
The officer’s reply stopped Lacey Willis from inquiring further. Yes, they shouldn’t be asking questions in their line of work.
“The transfer order is here.”
The officer gestured to the document.
“Alright, you can take her away.”
Lacey Willis looked at the document and, convinced it was genuine, stepped aside to let the three officers in.
However, as soon as they entered, Robin slammed the door shut with a bang.
With a click, he locked the door.
“Hey, kid, what are you doing? Why are you locking us in? You know this is against the law, right? Open up and let us out!” The people inside changed their expressions and hastily banged on the door.
Even Lacey Willis was stunned. “Wh… What’s… What’s going on? Why lock the door?” She didn’t understand.
“Wait a few more minutes, and you’ll know,” Robin calmly replied.
A few minutes later, three more officers entered from outside, holding another transfer order. They said to Lacey Willis, “Sergeant Willis, this is the transfer order. We need to transfer the person you’re holding.”
“You guys!”
Lacey Willis was taken aback but quickly realized what was happening. She glared at the people inside and said angrily, “You have the audacity to impersonate official personnel, and I didn’t even notice!”
“What’s going on?” The three new officers also noticed something was off.
“The people inside are impersonating police officers and trying to take the prisoner away. We locked them in,” Robin explained, pointing to the people inside.
“What?!” The three officers immediately became alert and went inside to investigate.
At this point, Robin quietly left the police station. He had already helped Lacey Willis, and now it was time to pick up the two young girls.
However, a woman followed him out.
“The people inside really were impostors. They’ve been caught. That was really close. But how did you figure it out? I didn’t even notice.” The woman who followed him out was Lacey Willis.
She was full of curiosity, trailing behind Robin with wide eyes and a face full of question marks.
She hadn’t noticed something that Robin had.
If it hadn’t been for Robin, she might have let Isadora Brighton escape. The thought made her shudder, but it also meant that she had lost to Robin once more.
She had lost again.
For the third time.
“Do you believe in intuition?” Robin asked, speaking as they walked.
“I don’t. The last time you claimed intuition, it was actually analysis. You analyzed me thoroughly. I’m sure it’s the same this time. However, how did you figure it out? I didn’t see it at all,” Lacey Willis responded, shaking her head in disbelief.
“Why should I tell you, Sergeant Willis? We’re not that close, are we?” Robin replied with a smile, then turned a corner and walked away.
“Hmph.” Lacey Willis watched Robin’s retreating figure and stamped her foot in frustration. But Robin was right. Why should Robin tell her? They weren’t close. But she had other ways.
Before long, a Porsche pulled up alongside Robin. The window rolled down, revealing a ponytailed face with a cheery smile. “Mr. Shelby, are you picking up your kid? I’m headed the same way. Mind if I join?”
Thud, thud. Lacey Willis patted the passenger seat invitingly.
“Same way? We’re going in completely different directions,” Robin retorted, finding no commonality in their routes. Nevertheless, Robin climbed in and asked, “What do you want to know?”
“How did you spot that something was off with those three cops?” Lacey Willis asked, her face filled with curiosity.
“Their positioning,” Robin replied.
“Their positioning?” Lacey Willis echoed, surprised.
“Those three seemed to be genuine cops, their demeanor, build, and procedures were all on point. They didn’t make any mistakes. But their positioning was off. They were standing in a stable triangle, the optimal defense formation. Any threat to this formation could be responded to quickly,” Robin explained.
“Especially when the man walked up to you, he quickened his pace, revealing the transfer order. That was the shift to an attack mode. If you’d realized something was wrong, they would’ve made their move.”
“Since your attention was on the transfer order, the man in front blocked the view of the other two. His steps were light, and you didn’t notice. But this minor action exposed their hostility towards you. A regular cop, knowing of the esteemed Sergeant Willis, wouldn’t have shown hostility.”
“In such a situation, only one kind of person would bear hostility.”
Having finished his explanation, Robin turned to Lacey Willis again. “Sergeant Willis, you let your guard down in the end. After being vigilant all day, you slipped up at the last step. If it hadn’t been for me, Isadora Brighton would’ve escaped today.”
“Your abilities fall far short of your so-called pursuit of justice. If you hadn’t been born into the right family, you might have been long gone, am I right?”
