“Get someone to take him to the hospital.”
Walter Wraith’s expression remained unmoved as he immediately ordered for the injured man to be taken to the hospital. As the head of the Wraith family, his words were not to be questioned.
“Yes, sir.”
The men beneath him quickly carried out the order and took the man to the hospital. Although both of his arms were broken, he was still alive. Robin had intended to send a warning, not to kill him. If he had died, it would have been too easy for him, but crippling him would cause greater pain.
Touching his wife would lead to the worst of punishment.
Walter Wraith returned to his study.
Before long, a servant came to report, “Master, Mr. Carlton from Lamonia Security and Constance Brighton are here to see you.”
“Please, show them in.”
Walter Wraith spoke the single word, and Mr. Carlton entered with a sinister smile on his face. Constance Brighton stood beside him, her phoenix eyes radiating nobility and an irresistible charm.
This was Constance Brighton’s unique characteristic.
“Walter Wraith, I heard that Mr. X sent someone to your doorstep. He killed two of your people and crippled your son, breaking both of his arms. But you let him go. Since when did you become so weak?” Mr. Carlton taunted while fanning himself, revealing his teeth in a grin.
Walter Wraith glanced up and replied, “We’re all smart people here. Let’s cut to the chase. Did Dexter Newman send you here to discuss a partnership?”
“Yes, to take down Mr. X together.”
Mr. Carlton nodded, not wasting any more words with Walter Wraith, a man known for his intelligence.
“Well, Mr. X has indeed been causing trouble for both of us. I’ll agree to the partnership, but within four days, I want to see Lamonia Security in action. I have a bad feeling about what might happen after that.”
Walter Wraith agreed without hesitation.
“Of course. Four days should be enough to eliminate Mr. X. It’s been too long since Lamonia Security has bared its fangs. It’s time for the people of Stillwater to learn what Lamonia Security is capable of.”
Mr. Carlton waved his fan.
Lamonia Security, a formidable organization, would not be easily defeated by Mr. X – a mere insect.
After their discussion, Mr. Carlton left, and Walter Wraith reclined in his chair, rubbing his forehead. “Lamonia Security, huh? This Mr. X won’t be so easy to deal with.”
Initially, he hadn’t taken Mr. X seriously. However, recent events had shown that he still didn’t know the extent of Mr. X’s capabilities. He couldn’t even find any information related to him, as if it had all been wiped clean.
“And how are you doing today?” Walter Wraith asked Constance Brighton.
“My niece, Isadora Brighton, is facing trial tomorrow. I came to ask if there’s anything that can be done.” Constance Brighton’s tone was different from her usual arrogance, filled with a hint of unwillingness.
As a prominent figure in Stillwater’s business world, she should have had more influence. But now, she was powerless against Mr. X. She had been losing against him, over and over again.
“I’ll think of something,” Walter Wraith promised, tapping his desk.
…
Ring, ring.
Robin received a call on his phone. It was from Lacey Willis. He wondered what she wanted.
“Hello?”
“Robin, tomorrow is Isadora Brighton’s trial. I want you to come with me to keep an eye on her. I’m afraid they might use some underhanded methods to get her out.”
Lacey Willis sounded a bit frustrated. She didn’t want to ask Robin for help, as she had always seen him as a suspect. But Isadora Brighton was too important, and she was worried that something might go wrong. She needed Robin to keep things in check. After their previous encounters, she had realized that Robin might not be a great fighter, but he was certainly experienced.
“Alright.”
Robin checked the time. It was still early, and Leslie hadn’t finished school yet. He had enough time to go see Isadora before picking up Leslie.
Before long, Robin arrived at the police station.
“Are you coming to pick me up?”
Robin placed a call to Lacey Willis.
“I can’t, I have to keep my eyes on Isadora Brighton, I won’t leave her side. I’ll have someone escort you in, otherwise you’ll get lost. Don’t wander off or I’ll have you arrested.”
“…”
Robin was taken aback.
She was quite serious indeed.
Indeed, one should never offend the weak and the women.
However, this was also Lacey Willis’s unique charm, a beacon of justice, like a small ship amidst a turbulent sea in this society. It was dangerous, but still resolutely sailing.
Such people were rare.
A few minutes later, a police officer led Robin to a detention room where he saw Lacey Willis, dressed in a smart outfit that highlighted her slim figure, her face shaped like a melon seed. She stood at the door, her eyes firm, radiating a heroic spirit that was not to be outdone by any man.
However, her eyes were bloodshot.
“How long have you been standing?”
Robin asked as he approached.
“Eighteen hours and five minutes,” Lacey Willis replied, but after a pause, she reacted, “Wait, that’s not right. Why am I reporting to you like you’re my superior?”
“How do you know I’m not?”
Robin smiled slightly.
“You, a useless rich kid, must have grown up in a well-off family with a good education, may be formidable elsewhere, but you can’t stand the hardship in the military.”
Lacey Willis rolled her eyes at Robin.
Did this question even need to be asked? How could someone like Robin possibly make a name for himself in the harsh military environment?
“Maybe so.”
Robin shook his head and didn’t explain further. Instead, he turned to look at Isadora Brighton in the cell. She was a far cry from her previous appearance. Once elegant, with enchanting eyes, now she was disheveled in a dirty dress, her face extremely haggard.
If not for their familiarity, they might not have recognized this as Isadora Brighton.
“Robin!”
Isadora Brighton lifted her head and saw a man outside. She vaguely recognized his face, it was Robin, the son-in-law of the Houry family.
That good-for-nothing.
“What are you doing here? Wait, are you close to Lacey Willis? Please, beg her for me. I was wrong, let me out, I don’t want to stay here for one more second.”
“Robin, let me out. I’ll give you anything, my family are very wealthy, I can give you everything. I can even give myself to you, any position you like, any way you want to play, I can do. Please, let me out, I really don’t want to stay here.”
At first, she didn’t want to pay attention, but seeing Robin and Lacey Willis standing together, she assumed they knew each other, and instantly became desperate, hastily offering all she could give, including her own body.
While speaking, she struck several poses, tugging at her collar.
She wanted to get out.
By any means necessary!
Robin, hands clasped behind his back, looked at Isadora Brighton and said, “I’m sorry, but compared to my wife, you fall short. I’m not interested.”
