Silence!
A bizarre silence.
Everyone looked on incredulously at the scene before them, their eyes wide in shock at Mr. X, and some even took a few steps back.
They had witnessed Mr. Carlton extend kindness, indicating his intention to spare Crow.
And then, in the very next second, Crow was killed by Mr. X.
Directly.
Dominantly.
Decisively.
Not only did he not give any respect for Lamonia Security, but after the kill, he even said.
“So what?”
A challenge!
An outright challenge!
In that moment, the previously smirking Mr. Carlton froze, his face turning gloomy the next second. This was a challenge against Lamonia Security.
Such audacity.
“Mr. X, are you showing no respect to us and Lamonia Security? Do you think you can do whatever you want with us?”
Mr. Carlton flicked his fan, a dangerous glint appearing at the corner of his mouth.
That statement was a naked threat.
Do you consider us, Lamonia Security, to be some easy target?
But what Mr. Carlton didn’t expect was for Mr. X’s deep eyes to meet his, the menacing mask only heightening the fear. “Isn’t that so? Lamonia Security… What’s Lamonia Security anyway?”
“…”
Everyone was stunned.
What’s Lamonia Security?
Who would dare to say such words? In Stillwater, Lamonia Security was the overlord of the underworld. Even the three major powers couldn’t contend with them. Dexter Newman was a synonym for terror.
In Stillwater, when Lamonia Security made a move, everyone else stepped back.
But today, someone dared to belittle Lamonia Security, challenging the authority of Stillwater’s number one organization right in front of the second and third in command of Lamonia Security!
Was this arrogance?
Or did he truly have the confidence?
Regardless, everyone was profoundly shocked. This was Lamonia Security, after all.
“Mr. X, you are too arrogant. Do you truly think you’re an untamed beast that no one can control? This is Stillwater. This is our, Lamonia Security’s, territory.”
Mr. Carlton’s gaze grew increasingly darker.
However, in the next moment, Robin appeared before him. A mask bearing sharp, menacing teeth showed up and a deep voice murmured, “Yes, so what?”
So quick!
A shock rippled through Mr. Carlton’s heart.
He had not even noticed that Mr. X had showed up before him, a wave of immense pressure surging from him. It sent a chill down Mr. Carlton’s spine and raised his hackles.
It was as if his breath had been stolen away, choked out of him.
It was as though the grim reaper had clamped onto his throat.
Five seconds passed before Robin finally moved away from Mr. Carlton. It felt as if he had been released; his eyes flew open, gasping for several breaths.
At that point, Robin walked over to Elise, scooped her up, and headed towards the exit.
Simultaneously, a voice resonated out.
“This is the first and last time. If there is a next time, if anyone dares to touch my people again, I will make your lives a living hell. You will regret coming into this world! If it’s Lamonia Security, I don’t mind making everyone in Lamonia Security, from top to bottom, meet an unnatural death. Don’t doubt whether I can do it. I am a man of my word.”
The voice was domineering, filled with murderous intent.
A chill swept through the bar, a heavy oppression filling the air.
It was only several minutes after Mr. X had left that the people in the bar seemed to finally breathe a sigh of relief. Some of the Lamonia Security personnel were even seated on the floor, their faces pale, eyes filled with fear as they muttered, “This Mr. X, he’s terrifying.”
The guy had articulated what everyone in the room was thinking.
“This Mr. X, he truly lives up to his rumors,” they whispered.
Mr. Carlton, watching Robin’s receding figure, had his eyes filled with gravity. He had heard about Mr. X before, but he hadn’t expected to be completely overwhelmed by him upon meeting.
This man was a challenge.
He was likely Lamonia Security’s greatest enemy.
“Hmm.”
Suddenly, Mr. Carlton recalled something. He turned to look at the tall figure standing behind him, towering at two meters tall, like a steel tower. This was Max Berry, the third in command at Lamonia Security, who normally ruled the underworld of Stillwater with an iron fist.
Yet this time, he hadn’t spoken a single word.
Something was off.
But when he saw him, he was taken aback because Max Berry, who was usually imposing without showing anger, and known for his fierce character, had stiffened up completely.
“Max Berry, what’s wrong?” Mr. Carlton asked.
“That man… I’m no match for him. When he appeared before you earlier, I wanted to intervene, but I felt an overwhelming killing intent, like from a mountain of corpses, which completely paralyzed me. I’ve been in Stillwater for many years, unbeatable, whether it’s Jimmy Sutton, William Banks, or Bradley Conwyn, I could kill them with a single punch.”
“But just now, I was scared. Just how many people has that guy killed? His killing intent alone made my entire body stiff. If it had been a life-or-death fight, I would probably be dead by now.”
Max Berry’s fists clenched tightly.
There was one thing he didn’t mention: not only was he the third in command and the first enforcer of Lamonia Security, but he also ranked eighty-fourth on the dark web’s hit list. On the global list of individual powerhouses, he was recognized as a formidable force. In Stillwater, he was considered unbeatable. He was Dexter Newman’s trusted aide, and was supposed to be invincible in this small city, given his standing on the dark list.
However, today, someone had managed to suppress him with just their killing intent, making him immobile.
He found it hard to believe.
What kind of person had come to Stillwater?
“More troublesome than I imagined.”
Hearing Max Berry’s words, Mr. Carlton furrowed his brows. He was somewhat aware of Max Berry’s background and knew that he was a genuine powerhouse. Yet, such a powerhouse was subdued by Mr. X. More troublesome than he had imagined.
“Everyone, back to Lamonia Security.”
As the second in command, Mr. Carlton immediately ordered.
The men quickly turned to leave.
Mr. Carlton and Max Berry also headed towards Lamonia Security.
They had brought over a hundred elite men, but in the end, Crow had still died. Not only had Crow died, but they had also been terrified by a man named Mr. X. Mr. Carlton felt humiliated.
However, even so, he would not act on his own.
As a subordinate of Dexter Newman, he knew that Newman despised subordinates who took the initiative. That’s why he was the only one left three years ago when Dexter Newman swept through Stillwater.
In these times, only the smart survived.
Upon arriving at the top floor office, Mr. Carlton and Max Berry knelt on one knee with a thud, their heads deeply bowed. “Boss, we’ve failed, and Crow is dead,” Mr. Carlton confessed succinctly and clearly.
Sitting on a chair, his back to them and his face hidden, Dexter Newman’s voice echoed, “Expected. After all, Mr. X is no simple character. He’s caused such a stir in Stillwater in just a few days, reminding me of my glory days. Carlton, find Walter Wraith, tell him we’re willing to cooperate to take down Mr. X.”
“We don’t have much time. We must quickly eliminate this outlier, Mr. X. Our plan must not fail.”
“Also, no matter what, don’t involve Elise anymore. If necessary, protect her. I have a premonition that if we touch that woman again, something terrible will happen.”
