Constance Brighton arrived at the police station after bidding farewell to the Wraith family. She was here to visit her niece, Isadora Brighton, and to inform her that Walter Wraith had decided to help them, so they had nothing to worry about.
“I would like to see Isadora Brighton,” Constance Brighton approached the front desk.
“Ah… alright,” the young girl at the desk hesitated, her expression a bit odd, but she accepted Constance’s form. Constance Brighton was slightly taken aback by the girl’s expression, wondering what was going on.
As she finally arrived at the room where Isadora Brighton was being held, she understood what had been going on. Standing at the door of the room was a woman with a single ponytail, her eyes filled with visible sternness.
When she noticed Constance Brighton’s arrival, she stared intently at her, her gaze becoming even fiercer.
“Lacey Willis!” Constance Brighton stared at the woman, startled.
This woman was none other than Lacey Willis. She was the most famous detective in Stillwater, extremely capable, decisive, and also the only daughter of the city’s mayor. Her rigidity was a common nightmare for the elites of Stillwater.
“What, you want to take her away?” Lacey Willis sneered, picking up a stack of documents and a recording pen, saying, “Here’s the arrest warrant, here’s the evidence, here’s the recording pen, and this, this…”
Of course, it was Robin Bailey who had given her that recording pen. It was a military-grade recording pen, exclusive to the people of Eastern Kisia.
As for why she was here, it was actually because of what Isadora Brighton had said when she was arrested. She had said, “Believe it or not, I’ll be out tomorrow!” That had completely infuriated Lacey Willis.
She had committed a crime, and she still wanted to get out? In her dreams, maybe.
Having been a police officer for so many years, she had never seen such a brazen person, which led her to say, “If you can even get out, I’ll kneel before you.” This time, she was determined to stand up against Isadora Brighton! She wanted to see if the Brighton family was more powerful, or if the law was stronger!
So, Lacey Willis had been guarding the cell, refusing to let others take over her shift, just in case someone tried to break Isadora Brighton out. After all, she was a boxing champion. Although she had lost some face in front of Robin Bailey, she still had some real deal. Want to get out? Just as she said, maybe in her dreams.
“Constance Brighton, with all this evidence combined, she’ll never get out in her lifetime. Don’t think you can save her with some fancy tricks. As long as I’m here, it’s impossible,” Lacey Willis stood guard at the door, her eyes resolute. If no one would uphold justice, she would be the last person to enforce it.
“Damn it,” Constance Brighton cursed under her breath. What rotten luck it was to be caught by such a rigid dumb head, and they couldn’t do anything to her. First, it was because of her background as the mayor’s daughter, and second, because she could really fight. Over thirty strong men were no match for her.
“I’m not here to take her out, I’m here to visit, and I’ve filed the paperwork,” Constance Brighton swallowed her anger, took out the document from her bag, which was the visiting document for Isadora Brighton. She wasn’t here to take her out, which somewhat reassured Lacey Willis.
However, Lacey Willis sneered, “I thought your family was really that omnipotent, but in the end, you’re still helpless.” Constance Brighton didn’t respond; she didn’t know what to say.
In fact, if it were just Lacey Willis, they would have enough ways to deal with her, even her mayor father, but this time it was clear that Mr. X had intervened. Mr. Wraith and Jimmy Sutton must have been involved with Mr. X. Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been so many coincidences.
But now, with Walter Wraith’s help, Mr. X was doomed. This time, she came not only to see Isadora Brighton but also to give her a shot of confidence.
“Officer, may I go in now?” Constance Brighton asked.
“Sure.” Lacey Willis made way for Constance Brighton to pass, but then followed closely behind her. Noticing Constance Brighton’s gaze, she explained, “You’ll be under my supervision.”
Constance Brighton had no choice but to continue walking. If it were any other time, she would make sure anyone in Stillwater who dared to defy her would suffer a miserable fate, but not now; Lacey Willis was special.
After they entered, there were two rooms – one outside and one inside, separated by a small window. They could talk, and it was then that Constance Brighton saw Isadora Brighton. She looked somewhat haggard, sitting in a dark room, her hair a mess, still wearing the expensive, close-fitting dress she had on earlier. However, beside her was a prison uniform – a blue one.
“Auntie, are you here to take me out? Auntie, take me out, I don’t want to stay here for even a second. This place is dirty, messy, and stinky!” Isadora Brighton, seeing Constance Brighton, approached her like a drowning person grasping at a life-saving straw.
“Our place is very clean,” Lacey Willis heard Isadora Brighton’s words and frowned in displeasure.
Indeed, they would clean the police station regularly, and they would ensure every corner was extremely tidy. The reason Isadora Brighton felt this way was because she had been accustomed to a life of luxury, fine food, and living in a mansion since birth. She had never lived in such a humble room, let alone a cell.
“Heh, Lacey Willis, right? I’ll remember you. How dare you arrest me and bring me here? Why don’t you wipe your dog eyes and see who you’ve caught? Once I leave this shithole, you’ll regret it.” Isadora Brighton, hearing Lacey Willis’s words, glared at her fiercely.
Then, she turned back to Constance Brighton, excitedly saying, “Auntie, please take me out of here. I really don’t want to stay any longer. I want to go back, take a bath in our swimming pool, and then I’ll deal with this Lacey Willis and that Mr. X. How dare they go against our family! They don’t know what’s coming.” Isadora Brighton’s eyes were filled with venom.
In her entire life, she had never experienced such hardship! Damn it. However, after waiting for a moment, she noticed that Constance Brighton remained silent, and she immediately asked, “Auntie, what’s wrong? Please get me out of here.”
“It’s not possible for now,” Constance Brighton said after a pause, but added, “Just wait a bit longer. I’ve sought Walter Wraith’s help, and he’s agreed to assist us this time. I’ll be able to rescue you before tonight ends. Trust me.”
However, just as she finished speaking, Constance Brighton received a phone call. She glanced at the screen and was overjoyed to see it was from Walter Wraith. After gesturing to Isadora Brighton to be quiet, she answered the call.
Upon hearing the first sentence, her face changed dramatically!
