“I’m impressed, young man.” Orson looked at Robin in admiration. He flicked his hand and added, “Young man, we do have a fate to become friends. In the future, if you need any help, please feel free to let us know. I have some influence in the government.”
“Thank you in advance, Mr. Willis,” Robin answered respectfully. He also browsed Orson’s profile earlier.
Orson became a soldier in Fort Eastern when he was 17. He served in the military for 16 years. When he was 33, his leg was injured by an explosion, but instead of resigning, he became a combat medic in Fort Eastern.
Later, the enemy broke into the city during the Fort Eastern crisis. Orson was the first soldier to rush to the wall, organize some teammates, and actively charge at the enemies. He had risked his life when doing so.
In the end, the enemies were defeated, but Orson was shot several times. Although rescued, he became a vegetable and didn’t wake up until several years later.
When he woke up, he was already 46. He had sacrificed half of his life for the military. His ranking was only first lieutenant, which was low compared to the general. However, Robin respected Orson from the bottom of his heart. Orson had risked his life to protect his country and the people.
That was why Robin respected him, as Orson deserved it.
“Not bad. I’m proud such a young man like you is in our Kisia.” The more Orson knew about Robin, the more he liked Robin.
He didn’t care Robin was Mr. X. After serving in Fort Eastern for years, Orson could tell Robin was a soldier who had protected the country and the people. Besides, from Robin’s extraordinary temperament, Orson could tell he must be a young general. That was why he was delighted. He liked young men like Robin the most due to his experience in the military.
“Young man, shall we play chess?” Orson rubbed his hands and suggested.
He was addicted to chess. Usually, his opponents were trounced, so he felt too bored. However, after Robin won against him last time, he became excited. In his opinion, Robin was not only an opponent but also someone who had won against him. Orson’s interest had been aroused.
He didn’t feel ashamed because of his age. Competence was the most critical factor in the military, as it was a matter of life or death. However, the veterans were also taken good care of.
“Melody, get me the chessboard. I will play chess with Mr. Willis today,” Robin said.
“OK, Mr. Bailey.” Melody turned away. Shortly after, she returned with a chessboard.
“Mr. Willis, let’s go play chess in the yard. There’s a stone table outside.”
“Sure.” Orson gazed at the chessboard without blinking and couldn’t wait to start. He didn’t care where to play chess.
“Leslie, Fiona, watch your favorite cartoons. If you want to go out, ask Melody to go with you. She can buy you snacks.” Robin smiled at the little girls affectionately.
“OK.” The girls answered adorably.
Robin and Orson went to the yard. On the lawn, there was a table with several stools. Also, Lacey was doing push-ups next to them, soaked in her sweat.
“78… 79… 80…” she counted for herself. However, she was confused, wondering why Robin had repeatedly defeated her.
After all, Robin was just a son of an affluent family. Lacey had been professionally trained. However, Robin easily won against her.
“Young man, if my granddaughter offended you one day, please don’t kill her for my sake. She’s stubborn and unwilling to admit being defeated.”
Orson heaved a sigh. He knew his granddaughter the most. Lacey always wanted to win against others and hated evil. She was safe and sound in Stillwater because her father was mayor. No one dared to lay a finger on her. However, if she went to another place, she would definitely get into trouble.
“Of course.” Robin thought Lacey was lovely with a pleasant character. After all, Lacey was like one of his soldiers, reminding him of his boys in the military. In the troops, a soldier was allowed to make mistakes as long as those mistakes weren’t principled.
“Thank you in advance, young man. I’ll take the first move, then.” Orson chuckled. Since he knew he couldn’t win Robin, he wanted to make the first move.
“No problem.” Robin gestured to him. Although Orson made the first move, the result would be the same.
An hour later, Lacey had taken off the jacket of her sportswear. Wearing a tight black vest, she stood before Robin while standing upright and called, “Sir. I’ve finished 300 push-ups, 150 sit-ups, and run around Eleanor Manor for 30 circles.” She felt like being in training.
“Ehn,” Robin replied with a grunt without reacting much. Instead, he held a chess piece and gently put it down. After darting at Orson, he remarked, “Mr. Willis, you lost again.”
“The 20th time. TSK. TSK. You are indeed awesome, young man,” Orson complimented him, sighing.
After resigning from the military, Orson had been polishing his skills in playing chess. Currently, he was the best chess player in Stillwater. Much to his surprise, Robin defeated him.
After playing chess with Robin, Orson never won a single round. He tried his best and adjusted his strategies all the time. However, he always lost to Robin.
“Another round.” Orson didn’t feel frustrated but became more excited.
They both overlooked Lacey standing next to them.
Lacey didn’t get angry. She stood upright, entirely concentrated.
A few minutes later, Orson lost another round. Robin finally looked at Lacey and said, “Go take a shower. You’ll get a cold. Melody will lend her shirt to you. This is a command.”
“Yes, Sir!” Lacey saluted him again. Then she headed to the second floor.
Melody showed her to a bathroom. While bathing, Lacey was suddenly enlightened. “Wait! Robin Bailey is just a man from a wealthy family. I’m a policewoman. Why am I like an obedient student to my trainer? No way! I’ll arrest him sooner or later.”
She jumped to her feet, ready to arrest Robin. However, the next second, she sat back down, her cheeks rosy because of the hot water. “I should finish bathing first. Robin Bailey wouldn’t run away. Alas… It feels so good.”
On the lawn outside the house, Orson gestured at Robin. “Thank you, young man.”
“Not at all.” Robin flicked his hand as he knew why Orson thanked him. Lacey had been soaked in her sweat earlier. It was autumn. Under the braze, she could get sick.
Robin didn’t ask her to shower immediately after she finished the punishment because she was still sweating at that time.
Both Orson and Robin were from the military, so they tacitly understood each other. Orson knew Robin took care of his granddaughter.
Suddenly, Melody walked to them and said, “Excuse me, Mr. Bailey. Isadora Brighton is visiting you.”
