The Brighton Group.
Constance was sitting enchantingly in her chair, sipping the coffee. She looked as if tonight’s matter had nothing to do with her.
“Ms. Brighton, it’s been 30 minutes. Landview still has four million dollars before going bankrupt. Shall we…” a secretary entered her office and reported.
“Add another 200 million dollars.”
Constance raised her hand.
“Yes, Ms. Brighton.” The secretary left.
Constance glanced in the direction of Eleanor Manor, narrowing her gaze. “Mr. X, I’m waiting for you to fight back.”
…
Landview Inc.
The stock market would close in five minutes.
“Ms. Houry, we will never survive after losing our last one million dollars. The Brighton Group added an extra 200 million dollars,” Priya reported to Elise in the president’s office.
In the past 30 minutes, Elise and her subordinates were struggling hard and fighting back so they could survive.
However, there were still five minutes left.
They would lose their last one million dollars in a blink. Not to mention their foe had put in another 200 million dollars. Landview Inc. might lose.
The senior executives looked annoyed. They hadn’t worked for the company long, but Landview seemed to go bankrupt soon.
One senior executive who had been scolded by Elise earlier mocked, “Ms. Houry, we’ve tried our best but still cannot win against the Brighton Group. There are only five minutes left. Well, to be exact, four minutes only. What way have you figured out?”
He emphasized his question ironically.
His coworkers were silent earlier. After all, they were against the Brighton Group, the most powerful family’s company. No one had expected to win and thought Elise said she would find a way to console them.
Much to their surprise, a man had the guts to blame Elise.
Elise didn’t retort, but Priya couldn’t tolerate it. She snapped at the man, “Mind your language!”
“Mind my language? Can’t you all understand? She doesn’t have any way to save Landview Inc. The company is going bankrupt soon. How stupid we are to fight against the Brighton Group! Well, I’ve already accepted a job offer from another company. I’ll leave now. Enjoy yourselves.”
He tore his work badge off, tossed it to the floor, and stomped on it. “Pak!” Laughing sarcastically, he strode out of the office. “Ha ha ha… You guys have fun!”
Suddenly, a secretary trotted into the office.
“You run so fast. Why? Has this company gone bankrupt?” the senior executive mocked.
“It’s… It’s…” The secretary gasped for breath.
“What is it? The owner of Landview has been changed?” the senior executive asked again ironically.
The secretary finally caught her breath and announced, “Mr. X invested… 400 million dollars… Our company survived!”
The mocking smile on the senior executive’s face froze. He looked sullen.
After he had chosen to work for another company, Mr. X invested 400 million dollars in one go.
The senior executive turned around with a bitter smile. “Ms. Houry… I… I… I was…”
He wanted to explain his action earlier, but Elise didn’t give him any chances.
“Please leave. You are not my employee anymore.”
Leaning against her desk, Elise raised her eyebrows and added, “By the way, don’t think you’ll have a new job. Even if you’ve been hired, you’ll be fired. After all, Landview is kind of famous in Stillwater.”
“Ms. Houry, please let me explain.”
“Security!” Elise called.
Two security guards strode over and forcibly took away the senior executive, who struggled hard and wanted to kneel to Elise while crying loudly.
If Landview had gone bankrupt, it would be reasonable for him to work for another company, and no one would blame him.
However, before the company went bankrupt, he didn’t have faith but twisted the knife in the wound. If other companies knew it, no one would hire him for his poor personality. He could easily become a traitor.
Therefore, the senior executive realized he was doomed, and so was his career.
After the man was dragged away, the rest senior executives looked at Elise in admiration. “Ms. Houry, you are indeed awesome. You’ve been clinical all the time. Also, your method works.”
“I didn’t expect us to be protected by Mr. X for real.”
“You are my heroine, Ms. Houry. I admire you.”
Furrowing her brows, Elise checked the time and said, “Gentlemen, the stock market has been closed. Time to go home.”
“OK.”
The senior executives left her office and got off work.
Landview Inc. didn’t go bankrupt before the stock market closed, so they could return to work the following day.
Soon, Priya and Elise were left alone in the office. “Ms. Houry, did you manage to convince Mr. X to add investment? 400 million dollars! That’s a lot,” Priya said.
“I only asked him for extra 40 million dollars.”
Elise looked puzzled. Earlier, she called Melody to apply for 40 million dollars, but Melody didn’t give her a confirmation. Although Elise looked calm all the time, she panicked inwardly.
Finally, the money was transferred, but Mr. X gave her 400 million dollars instead.
Elise could tell he doted on her, feeling more panicked. She reminded herself that Mr. X shouldn’t have meant something else. After all, she was married. ‘Mr. X must trust me a lot, so he invests so much money in me, hoping I can make high profits for him,’ she repeatedly told herself inwardly.
Elise didn’t think Mr. X’s behavior was based on some dirty meanings.
“Priya, Mr. X trusts us.” Elise nodded determinedly and added, “Let’s hold a meeting tomorrow morning. I’ll use the 400 million dollars to develop more projects and make more profits, so Mr. X won’t be disappointed. I’ll become his best employee.”
She emphasized “employee” to clarify her attitude and distinguish herself from Mr. X.
Although Mr. X was outstanding, Elise was loyal to Robin. No matter how influential Mr. X was, she still loved Robin.
