“Lacey Willis.”
Robin was taken aback as he didn’t expect Lacey to suddenly appear from nowhere. She stared daggers at him, seemingly wishing to skin him alive.
Robin wondered when he had offended her.
“I thought you were a flawless saint, Robin Bailey. Finally, I caught you. You hit the old man and wanted to escape. You are guilty of terrible crimes,” Lacey said righteously.
In fact, she deliberately passed by the street.
She had always been reluctant, thinking Robin was an evil man from a wealthy family. He had hidden in Stillwater with terrible intentions. Therefore, she always wished to send him to jail.
As long as he stayed in jail, he couldn’t commit any crimes.
Hence, Lacey changed her route of returning home after work. Whenever she headed home, the path was identical to Robin’s. Many times, she secretly studied Robin on the way.
Much to her surprise, she finally found his flaw.
She believed she could send this hateful man to jail, finally.
“Exactly! He disrespects the old. I was crossing the street. He saw me but was unwilling to stop his bike. Instead, he rushed towards me. Oh, my poor back! My thigh! They are so painful. I can’t walk,” the old man made a fuss again while lying on the road.
All the onlookers felt sorry for him, especially Lacey.
Staring at Robin more unkindly, she snapped, “How dare you bully the old! How could such a scum like you be in our Stillwater?”
Robin got off the bike, walked to the old man, and pointed at Lacey. “Do you know who she is?” he asked.
“She’s a kind-hearted woman, unlike you. You evil man!” the old man answered pitifully.
His words directly make Robin become the target of all onlookers.
“Right. We all want to help the old man, unlike you. You didn’t stop waiting for him when he crossed the street. How dare you hit an old man! Can’t you see how aged he is?”
“Youngsters nowadays lack patience. Alas…”
“Humph! What an immortal man! What’s going on nowadays? The new generation is indeed beat generation.”
Many onlookers scolded Robin.
However, Robin ignored them and said to the old man in jest, “This woman is named Lacey Willis, a captain of the criminal investigation team of Stillwater Police Department.”
“Why are you telling him my profession…”
Lacey gazed at Robin in confusion, wondering why he disclosed her identity. She only wanted to arrest him.
Before she finished asking him, she was shocked as the old man immediately got up as if he was healthy.
The next second, he ran away. Fast.
A few men also followed suit, including the so-called doctor.
Weird silence blanketed the crowd. All the onlookers exchanged glances with each other with baffled expressions.
The old man insisted he had been severely injured, but he ran away faster than the young.
“Now you should know what has happened. I should thank you, though. Lacey Willis, your reputation can reduce the blackmail cases in Stillwater,” Robin said while shaking his head, standing beside Lacey.
The criminals only wished to get money. However, the situation would become more troublesome if a policewoman was involved. They had heard about Lacey, so they fled directly without looking back.
Robin also heard a rumor about Lacey once. A suspect was beaten up by her after being arrested. His five ribs were broken. After waking up, he cried, “Boohoo… I admit it. Please let Lacey Willis leave me alone.”
All bad eggs in Stillwater feared Lacey.
Robin didn’t expect her reputation to work so well.
“All right. See you around, Messenger of Justice.”
Robin flicked his hand at Lacey, hopped on his bike, and left the scene.
The onlookers exchanged glances with each other and left with blushed faces. They were passersby and didn’t know what had happened exactly. However, after the criminals misled them, they all thought Robin was guilty.
However, they had wronged him, actually.
Lacey was the one who had made a terrible mistake. At this moment, she blushed scarlet while clenching her hands into fists. She was so angry that her chest heaved up and down.
“I lost again.”
“I also misunderstood Robin Bailey this time. Argh! I… I… Argh!”
“Lacey, you always want to arrest Robin Bailey. You are obsessed with winning. How could you fail to tell such a simple trap? What have you learned from school and the police university?”
Lacey blamed herself, feeling depressed.
She had never won when confronting Robin and wasn’t afraid of losing. However, she misunderstood Robin this time and became an accomplice of the criminals.
If Robin hadn’t told the criminals about her identity, she would have been a great help to them.
Robin taught her a lesson again.
Lacey was frustrated.
“Argh!”
In anger and reluctance, Lacey roared, “Robin Bailey, I misunderstood you this time. It was my fault. I owe you this time. I’ll repay you.”
Unfortunately, Robin had long gone.
However, the current road also could take her home, so she walked forward.
On the way home, Robin saw a man wearing a hoodie running out of an alley. Holding a woman’s handbag, he was running fast.
Robin could tell he was a robber.
“Stop looking at me! Fuck off!” the man snapped after seeing Robin watching him.
He pulled out a knife and waved, trying to scare Robin away. If it were an ordinary man, he would run away in fear.
However, Robin only darted at him indifferently and reached a leg out.
He gave the robber a round kick.
The robber’s chine was hit. As he was kicked away, the knife and handbag dropped from his hands. The robber fell to the ground in the distance with a loud bang.
He coughed out two teeth.
“Don’t be so arrogant next time. Sometimes, the passerby could be a good fighter,” Robin reminded the robber while he picked up the handbag.
“OK. OK.”
The robber covered his teeth in pain, knowing he had met someone tough.
Suddenly, a woman ran over while panting. She uttered, “Catch him! He robbed me. He took my handbag away.”
“Ehn? Robin Bailey, did you stop him?”
The woman saw the scene and recognized Robin, who was holding her handbag.
“Miranda Levis…”
The woman was Miranda. Robin’s lips twitched. The next second, Robin tossed the handbag back to the robber. “No, I didn’t stop him.”
After pressing the handbag into the robber’s hands, Robin reminded him, “Run! Run fast. Along the street, turn left. You’ll see a lot of alleys. You can escape easily and cannot get caught.”
