“Cheers! For our success.”
David and Snow clinked their goblets. Then Snow returned home. David used money from the company’s account to buy this villa, which belonged to him personally, so Snowy didn’t stay there.
After Snowy was gone, a woman wrapped in a bathrobe swung downstairs. She asked coquettishly, “Mr. Houry, aren’t you coming upstairs?”
She was a prostitute ordered by David.
“All right. Let’s go.”
Lust flashed through David’s eyes. He followed her upstairs. After having sex, the woman asked, “Mr. Houry, did you hear some noises outside?”
“Noises? Must be a stray dog or wild cat.”
David didn’t take it seriously.
He was exhausted and fell asleep quickly, and so did the woman.
The following morning, when David woke up, he recalled he had something to deal with today. Stretching and yawning, he opened the window.
The next second, he was baffled.
“Holy shit! What the heck?”
David widened his eyes. Several vagabonds were lying in the yard of his villa. Faintly, he smelt the stink from them.
He hurriedly put on his clothes and went downstairs. As soon as he opened the door, his face turned livid.
He saw piles of night soil at the entrance of his villa.
David was almost suffocated by the stink.
“What the hell? Why are you at my house? Aren’t you supposed to be on the construction site?” David roared at the beggars.
He went ballistic as he saw such a scene right after waking up in the morning.
However, he received no response.
“Speak!”
David gritted his teeth and darted at them.
However, he still didn’t hear any beeps, as if they were all sleeping.
“Shit! Where is your leader? Get out!” David snarled.
Still, no one replied to him.
David scanned the crowd to find the leading vagabond. Unfortunately, he didn’t see him.
He boiled over with rage.
Actually, the beggars’ leader had hidden. As Robin arranged, the leading vagabond received 20, 000 dollars to take revenge on the person who had sent them to the construction site.
David played a dirty trick, so Robin gave him a dose of his own medicine.
“Shit!”
David wiped his face, pulled out his phone, and called the police. Soon, the police arrived and took the beggars away. A few hours later, they returned.
David called the police to question them but received the same response as Elise.
The police could only give the vagabonds some reminders.
David felt desperate.
…
The same morning, Elise rushed to the construction site. She had figured out several methods the previous night to try on the vagabonds. However, after she arrived, she was confused.
The construction site was empty, and she didn’t see a single beggar.
All the garbage had gone as if the construction site had been cleaned.
“Ms. Houry, I asked people staying nearby. They said the vagabonds left last night.”
Priya walked to her with a baffled expression.
She also had thought about methods to drive the vagabonds away for a whole night. However, they were useless now.
“What happened?”
Elise was puzzled.
Suddenly, Elise received a call, which was from Miranda.
“Hello, Miranda?”
“Hello, Elise. I have something funny to share with you. David Houry has a private villa, but it was attacked by a group of vagabonds this morning. He called the police, but the beggars were released soon. Then they returned to David Houry’s villa. Ha ha ha… How hilarious!”
“The news has been spread in Stillwater. David Houry has been mocked. I wonder what he has done to provoke the beggars. He must feel too disgraced.”
Miranda burst into laughter on the phone.
She was on Elise’s side, so she knew David was Elise’s sworn enemy. Therefore, David’s misfortune amused her.
Elise, however, looked more confused.
She didn’t expect the vagabonds to go to David’s villa.
She had roughly figured out David had sent them to make trouble for her, wondering why they returned to attack David.
Elise guessed two possibilities. David hired the vagabonds but had conflicts with them. Therefore, the beggars made trouble for him.
Or, someone had helped her.
Elise believed someone had helped her resolve the problem, wondering who it was.
“Last night? Who did it last night?”
Elise thought it over and suddenly recalled Robin had been out to buy the cigarettes. It took him half an hour, which was abnormal.
He could have bought it quickly in a store nearby the house.
Also, the time matched.
Elise smelt something fishy.
After returning home, Elise dragged Robin into her room, looking at him suspiciously. Reaching a hand, she asked, “Give me the pack of cigarettes you bought last night.”
She suspected Robin had helped her.
“Here you are.”
Robin pulled out a pack.
“The cigarettes…”
Elise didn’t know the cigarettes well, but Robin had been out for half an hour, which made her suspect. She asked bluntly, “Where did you go last night?”
“To buy the cigarettes,” Robin answered with his hands behind him.
He did buy a pack of cigarettes the previous night and took the chance to teach the vagabonds a lesson.
“Buy the cigarettes? Why did it take you half an hour?” Elise asked, straight to the point.
There was a tobacco store nearby the villa. She didn’t think Robin needed to spend half an hour buying a pack of cigarettes.
“This cigarette isn’t sold in the tobacco store here. I took a bus and bought it somewhere else, which took me half an hour. You can check with the tobacco store owner.”
He didn’t lie.
“I smoke five already.”
Elise opened the pack and found five were gone. Robin’s explanation made sense. Therefore, it was another coincidence.
“All right.”
Elise let Robin leave and knocked her forehead. “Stop your wild imagination, Elise. Why do you always suspect him?” she muttered.
Elise thought she must be mentally ill as she always suspected Robin of doing something.
However, she lacked evidence, and it was always proved that Robin hadn’t done those things.
Therefore, she believed she was sick or longed to be protected.
Robin walked out of her room, heaving a sigh. “It’s not the time yet, Honey. Give me more time. I’ll let you know your husband is a hero.”
After avenging her for the incident seven years ago, he would tell her the truth.
