Chapter 96 Give Doug a Chance

Book:The Warlord Is Back Published:2024-5-31

In a small office on the second floor, Robin pushed the door and entered. Doug was waiting for him. Evidently, he had received the news.
“Please have a seat.”
Doug hurriedly stood up and let Robin sit down.
“Let me go straight to the point. I’m here to have a deal with you. I want you to protect a bar for me, but you’ll be in conflict with people from Lamonia Security Company,” Robin said bluntly after sitting down.
“Lamonia Security Company?” Doug’s smile faded. Looking solemnly, he stammered, “Uh… But Lamonia Security Company is the most powerful force in Stillwater’s underworld. They’ve successfully whitewashed themselves. Lamonia Security Company is such a well-known company. I’m afraid I cannot afford to offend them. Honestly, I always long to join them, but they look down on me.”
“What if I’ll back you up?”
Robin looked at him. “If you are confident, I will also support you against Lamonia Security Company. I can guarantee you’ll defeat them.”
Sometimes, gangsters would be more convenient for dealing with some matters.
Robin couldn’t call over the troops to help him all the time. Besides, Jeff had shown up in public, and many people thought Jeff was the Robin-Sophia Group’s chairman of the board.
He couldn’t let Jeff protect the bar.
Therefore, Robin decided to give Doug a chance, hoping he could grasp it.
“Well…”
Doug hesitated.
He knew Robin was never as simple as he looked. However, Doug thought himself was just a small potato. The owner of Lamonia Security Company, however, was like the godfather of the Stillwater underworld. He lacked confidence.
Also, it would be too risky.
“You’ll have three days to consider.”
With those words, Robin stood up and left. He had offered Doug a chance, so the ball was in Doug’s court. If he could grasp it, he would have a bright future.
If not, he would stay the same.
After arriving on the first floor, Robin saw the man who had blocked his way earlier kneeling at the entrance. When he saw him, the man slapped himself and apologized, “I’m terribly sorry, Sir. It’s my bad. I shouldn’t have…”
“Forget it.”
Robin walked past him as he wasn’t in the mood to deal with a trifle.
However, the man breathed a sigh of relief as if he had survived a big disaster.
Right after Robin left the commercial street, he received a call.
He checked the number and saw Nina’s name.
“Hello, Nina?” Robin swiped to answer.
Since the last car race, they got along better than before, although Nina still treated him rudely.
“Robin Bailey, come to my college.”
“I’m busy.”
“Please, Robin. You are my dearest brother-in-law…”
“I’m at the university entrance.”
Robin ended the call, feeling helpless. Somehow, he had a feeling that Nina had become cheekier.
When she needed him to help, she admitted him to be her brother-in-law; if not, she addressed him rudely.
However, they did get along better than before. At least, Nina occasionally admitted him to be Elise’s husband.
“Robin Bailey.”
Shortly after, Robin’s shoulder was patted. Nina appeared from nowhere behind him. She wore denim shorts, exposing her tender, fair legs. The yellow t-shirt made her young and lively.
Her hair was tied in a ponytail. She looked cunning.
“Why are you here, Robin Bailey?” Nina asked Robin curiously.
“Aren’t you supposed to be at work now? Why are you wandering around? I know you cannot gather 400, 000 dollars in six months as a security guard. You should work hard.”
“I had a day off to deal with some personal errands. What do you want me to do?” asked Robin.
“I’m in the third year, so I need to find an internship. Two days ago, a film crew contacted me and told me they were still looking for actresses for three female roles. The audition place is too remote, so I’m afraid of going alone. I thought of asking Elise to go with me, but she suggested asking you for help. She said she was too busy,” Nina explained.
“Where is it?” asked Robin.
“In the South Shore.”
“That’s indeed far from here, already out of town.”
Robin shook his head. He was idle then, so he decided to go with Nina.
Since Nina needed his help, she said politely, “Let’s go, then.” Her coquettish tone made Robin fail to refuse her.
Soon, they got on a bus.
On the way, Nina said, “Is there something wrong with Timothy Buosont? He wants to pursue me, but why didn’t he give me his number? I haven’t seen him for many days. My mother always calls me and asks when I’ll marry him.”
Robin wondered how he should respond to her.
If he told the truth, she wouldn’t believe him.
“In fact, Timothy Buosont pretended to pursue you because of me,” Robin explained.
“Oh, come on! Don’t be kidding. Who is Timothy Buosont? He’s the oldest son of the Buosont family, the heir of the Buosont Group. He has a bright future. How can you declare he’s after me because of you? Haha…”
Nina fell about laughing.
“All right. It’s because you are too charming,” Robin sighed without explaining.
He knew she wouldn’t believe the truth.
“Of course. That’s the only answer. Besides, he said those gifts were for me. I’m sure he has a crush on me. He didn’t give me his phone number because he wanted to play hard to get, right?”
Nina guessed in excitement, “He’s afraid I’ll refuse him, so he played some tricks. It will make me wonder about it and miss him. Later, when I’m out of patience, I’ll take the initiatives to find him. Then I’ll fall into his trap. In fact, he doesn’t need to do so. It’s easy for him to gain my heart.”
At the University of Stillwater, Timothy had a good reputation and was a dream lover for many girls.
“Robin, do you think my words made sense? Isn’t that what he aims for?”
Nina looked at Robin expectantly.
“Right.”
Robin nodded solemnly. He couldn’t remark anything.
“No wonder Timothy didn’t come to see me. He’s so cunning.”
Nina snickered.
Right then, Robin sensed three men gradually approaching Nina on the bus. Their gazes looked evil.
Notably, a man wearing glasses reached out and wanted to do something.
Robin immediately realized they would harass Nina, sneering. How bold they were!
