James POV
“Cassie!!!” I screamed as I ran around the entire place while still trying to be time conscious.
I had no idea where Cassie could be even when I knew very well that she had to be somewhere in here.
“Maybe she is out there already, maybe she is among those that are out there, safely already ” I guessed as I opened up the last door.
That just had to be it, that had to be what happened, perhaps she was just too weak to come find us to show herself.
I turned and began to race away from the building, it would soon blow up, that I was sure of.
I ran as fast as my wolf legs could go, I was almost out of the gates when I heard a shrill cry.
“James!!” It was Cassie’s voice.
“Cassie!!” I screamed, tears clouding my eyes in an instant as I realized the fact that time was up.
I turned and tried to race towards her but just then the explosion came, loud and sudden! It almost shattered my ears but that was not the issue! This explosion! This very explosion had swallowed my Cassie.
I dropped to my knees as I watched the fire booming.
“Cassie!!!!!!” I screamed aloud in pain.
The pain was excruciating, I did not want to believe what had just happened. I needed someone to tell me that it was not real, I needed someone to tell me that all this was a dream and my Cassie was still alive, hale and hearty with beautiful smiles on her beautiful face.
“James!!!” I heard Alpha Kayden’s voice call out to me loudly but I gave no response, I just knelt there, tears streaming down my face.
“James” he called again, more gently as he reached where I was.
“She…. she is gone.” I cried out to him.
“You… You tried your best.” He replied.
“It clearly wasn’t enough! Cassie told me! She did not want to be with a wolf, romance between human and wolf was doom but I changed her thinking! I led her into love… No, I led her into doom, into death!” I cried even harder.
“You were just trying to make things work out. You do not have to blame yourself so much.”
“I have to! I have to blame myself! About a week ago, she told me… She told me she was scared of what was going to happen but I… I told her that I was going to protect her and she needed not be afraid but this…. What have I succeeded in doing?! I have succeeded in doing nothing but leading her to her untimely death! I am a beast!” I cried even more and Alpha Kayden pulled me close to himself.
“Come over here James.” he said as he patted me gently.
“Cassie!” I continued to mumble her name till I strangely fell asleep.
“Get him into the car.” I heard Alpha Kayden say just before I lost track of what was going on in my surroundings.
My heavy eyes closed and I slept off.

I woke up on a soft material, definitely a bed, it had the scent of roses on it. I slowly sat up from the bed to see Mantha and Alpha Kayden in the corner of the room, watching over me.
“James… You are awake.” Mantha spoke up, her eyes were swollen like she had been crying a lot over the past few hours.
“Let me pour you water.” she offered and poured water from the jug into the glass cup in her shaky hands.
She walked over to me with unsteady steps and handed over the glass of water to me, all this while Alpha Kayden just say down, doing and saying absolutely nothing.
“Where… Where is Cassie?” I asked Samantha.
“Ca…. Cassie.” she stuttered and suddenly broke into tears.
That was when the memories came flooding my brain once more, my beautiful Cassie was really gone, it was not a dream, the pains I was feeling was too realistic to be fake.
“Cassie.” I called out of my stuttering lips slowly as my body shivered with the realization that I was never ever going to see my Cassie ever in the world.
“Where… Where is she?” I asked Mantha.
“She…. We can’t tell her body exactly. The bodies and every other thing burned too badly.” she replied me and I raised up my head to prevent the tears from falling.
“We… We could only guess her body.” Mantha added and I slammed my fist against the bed stand hard!
“Cassie… She really left me!” I cried more.
“I’m sorry I was unable to do a thing too. It is not your fault, it is my fault for being unable to save her, I should have followed her that day when she told me she was going out, I should have insisted.” Mantha mumbled as tears fell out from her eyes too.
Alpha Kayden walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her, something I no longer had, I no longer had someone to wrap their arms around me and no one for me to wrap my arms around.
“Do… Do you want to see her body James?” Alpha Kayden asked and I nodded slightly.
“Follow me then.” he replied and with that, we all got onto the road.
No one said a word… No, the situation was too sad for anyone to say a word, I had lost my Cassie and it was only normal for the silence to reign.
My eyes continued to generate more water as tears fell after tears, I made no noise crying but it was continuous crying all through.
We got to the mortuary and alighted from the car.
Alpha Kayden led the way while I and Samantha followed behind into the mortuary.
“Welcome sir.” the man in charge greeted Alpha Kayden and the clothes that was used to cover up Cassie’s face was thrown off.
More tears accumulated and dropped instantly as soon as I saw her body, it was blackened and darkened, it was totally unrecognizable.
I had caused this for her… All of this is my fault! I led her into a human-wolf romance, I led her into death!
