Samantha’s POV
I stood up from my bed, grabbed the bottle of water beside me and gulped down the entire bottle.
I moved wearily to the bathroom, took a quick shower and changed my clothings. I let my hair down as usual and put on the locket that I shared with Kay.
“Kayden?” I called, walking towards the door but there was no response.
“Kayden.” I called again but there was still no reply.
“Kayden.” I called in a mind link.
“Hey Mantha, you woke up already?” He asked.
“Sure, where are you?” I asked softly.
“I am sorting some things out. Don’t worry yourself, just stay home and await me.” he replied.
“Why did you leave without me?” I grumbled.
“I just want you to be safe Mantha.”
“No, I don’t want to be this frail luna.” I replied him and heard him sigh.
“Okay fine! When next I am going to do something, you are coming with me.” he said.
“Okay…. I would wait for you then.” I replied him and ended the mind link before plopping to the bed once more.
I felt a bit lonely and I did not want to go meet Cassie, for all I know, she was probably having a romantic and great time with James and I would not love to interrupt her just because I am bored.
I got up from my bed, opened the door of my room and walked out of my room. I took the stairs and headed downstairs to the living room, where Kayden’s mum was seated.
“Good day mum.” I said to her with a slight bow.
“Quickly, come over here and sit beside me.” she said to me and I moved to where she was seated and sat beside her.
“Uhm…. I heard you are from the Green Moss pack?”
“Yes ma’am.” I replied her.
“You’re the daughter of the Alpha of Green Moss pack?” She asked and I nodded this time without saying a single word.
“It must have been hard for you all this while.” she said to me and threw her arm around me.
“Don’t worry about anything, Kayden is very capable, he is going to take care of it all.” she said to me comfortingly.
“You know…. I am very grateful to you Samantha, Kayden was a happy kid, a very happy and mischievous one, I have always known him to be the fun lover and then few weeks to his birthday, his joy and happiness even increased but of course I was happy for him that he was happy even though his dad thought that he was having too much fun but then on his birthday, he suddenly turned into what you met him as…. Cold, unsmiling, I thought it was a joke at first but then it dawned on all of us that Kayden was very serious, since then, he hardly smiled, Kayden who would chatter about how beautiful his mate would be suddenly turned to one who could even kill those who spoke about him having a mate.”
“I tried my best to make him get off his mood, his dad thought it was normal until after weeks when he too found out that there was something amiss, I really still have no idea what was amiss to this day but I am just happy that you could take him out of that sullen and dull world he was buried in.” she added and I knew she was talking about Diane.
I would have told her about Diane dying on Kayden’s birthday but then if Kayden wanted them to know, he definitely would have told them about it, so I decided to keep quiet about it too.
“When you first came into this mansion, I very well knew there was something unique about you especially when Kayden ran all the way from his office just to make sure that I did not get you killed and I secretly wished that you would turn out to be his mate because I found that you are pretty much the only one he cares about so much.” she continued.
“Am I talking too much already?” She asked and I shook my head to indicate no.
“Not at all.”
“And about Lauren too, I quite much know that she treats you badly….” She sighed softly.
“It is quite clear to everyone that she does but then you have to understand that she is the childhood friend of Kayden, their relationship got strained when she told Kayden that she wanted to get married to Kayden on that very birthday when Kayden changed his attitude, Kayden plainly rejected her.” she added and I found that this birthday was really a whole lot for Kayden.
“He really went through a lot” Cara said and I agreed with her.
“But don’t you think that there is more to it? Diane dying all of a sudden?” I asked Cara.
“I also do think that there is something connected to it. Kay said she was murdered but the murderer has never been found… Meaning that the murderer is still very well at large.” Cara replied me.
“We really need to find out who the murderer was and the motive of the murderer, that’s the only way to know if we have someone after us too.” I said to her.
“Are you listening to me?” Kayden’s mum voyce brought me back to life.
“Oh…. Yes, I am listening totally.” I replied.
“Are you sure?” She asked and I nodded.
“Okay, I will be back in a minute, I am going off to get something in my room.” she said and stood up from where she was seated.
I looked around the empty living room and cuddled myself like an inconsequential being in the world.
“Hey.” I heard Cassie’s voice and my eyes lit up for a moment.
I turned to see both James and Cassie walking hand in hand.
“And if it is not the latest couples in town.” I teased with a playful smile.
“You look sad, don’t try to hide it behind those fake smiles.” Cassie said to me and j pressed my lips into a thin line, looking at the floor.
“I know things might be hard now but you are going to get over it Samantha.” she said to me comfortingly.
“Sure Samantha.” James added.
“Thanks buddies.” I replied the both of them with a said smile.
“Yeah, the lady that came to look for you yesterday.” Cassie started.
“Oh yeah, who is it?” I asked her.
“I don’t know too, she didn’t mention her name before she ran away like someone was chasing her.” she replied and I furrowed my brows.
“Oh yes, there’s something. She has the same mark you have on your neck.”
