Chapter 71

Book:Save Me Mate Published:2024-5-31

Kayden’s POV
She skipped out in glee and shut the door behind her. I carried the bowl of food in my hands and began eating the meal.
It did not taste very good, yes it did not but then it tasted like Diane’s meal. It was just the way Diane would cook pot roast.
And moreover her smile and glee, I guess was worth it.
“You mean….” Jay asked.
“I meant nothing,” I replied him.
“Oh, you did mean something.”
“Jay, we still have so many issues that you are not talking to me about, you should help me with those issues yunno,” I said to him trying to change the topic.
“I am only going to discuss the issue of our mate with you till you finally do accept her,” he replied stubbornly and I shook my head.
I gave no reply and lay on my bed. I took out my phone and surfed the internet if there was anything fun going on but it seemed all boring. I dropped my phone and very soon, I had slept off.
Samantha’s POV
By the time I got back to the quarters, Cassie was already asleep. I stared at her sleeping figure and smiled, she looked pure and beautiful.
I really do not want James to hurt her but then because of Alpha Kayden’s jealousy, I would have to wait for tomorrow to talk with James.
I lay on my bed and went to sleep tiredly, cooking was not one easy task.
*
I woke up quite early the next morning, Cassie was still asleep and that was new, Cassie always woke up before me.
I got up from my bed and shook Cassie’s body gently to wake her up. I bet she must be super surprised that I got up before she did. She opened her eyes and furrowed her brows.
“Okay, this is weird, how the heck did you get up before I did?” She asked.
“I am starting to become more and more serious with my job” I replied to her and helped her up from the bed.
“Now, let’s go and have our bath, clean early before the other maids like we did yesterday so we can have a lot of free time,” I said to her and she sleepily nodded.
“Why were you not in early last night?” Cassie asked, pulling off her clothes.
“I… I was cooking for Alpha Kayden.” I replied and she threw her head towards my direction.
“Cooking for Alpha Kayden?” She asked and I nodded.
“A sort of punishment, I would say,” I replied her.
“It’s not one. Our mate loves our meal.” Cara corrected.
“Of course, it would now become a hobby and not a punishment but then I can’t tell Cassie that, at least not for now,” I replied Cara.
I and Cassie went to take our bath, dressed up for work and cleaned our spots talking about random stuff until James finally came to meet us.
“Hello, two beauties.”
“Were you going to say Hello Beautiful Cassie?” I asked in a tease and he smiled.
“You are both beautiful,” he said.
“Okay, I would take that even though I know that the complement is not meant for me,” I replied.
“What do you mean Samantha? James is our friend, not just mine.” Cassie said nudging me shyly.
“Okay, now someone is getting shy like a high school kid.” I teased and get face heated up the more.
“C’mon, you’re making me feel flushed up,” Cassie said.
“You are a really good teaser,” James added.
“Cassie taught me that,” I replied to him.
“Wow but I don’t think I would believe that, Cassie is so gentle and she hardly talks,” James said, staring at her affectionately.
I shook my head with a smile on my face.
“Lovers.” Cara complimented.
“They look good together. I just hope things do not flop between the both of them.” I replied Cara.
“Okay, did Cassie tell you that she does not talk?” I asked James.
“No, but I figured it out myself,” he replied.
“You found out a wrong thing.” I chuckled.
“You both would be done soon, right?” He asked.
“Sure,” I replied and a pleasant scent filled my nose, Alpha Kayden.
“Good morning Alpha.” we all chorused with a bow of our heads.
“The three of you again?” He asked and I took my lips in.
“We… We are cleaning sir.” Cassie replied as politely as anyone could sound.
“And James?” He asked.
“He… He… He is here to keep us company.” I replied to him and heard him sigh deeply.
“James, get something doing right at this instant,” he ordered and James scampered off.
I looked at his retreating figure and frowned deeply, I was thinking of talking to him and now Alpha Kayden yet again is ruining that plan too.
“Mantha.” his deep voice came and I faced forward, my gaze on the floor though.
“Get back to work,” he added and walked away.
“Okay, that was strange. Why did he call my name just to tell me to get back to work?” I asked Cara.
“Of course, that is because he just loves calling your name,” Cara replied and I held back smiles.
“We are done cleaning,” Cassie said and I dropped the cleaning rag.
“Okay Cassie, there’s something I need to attend to right now. Please pack away the cleaning equipment please.” I pleaded and she waved at me to leave.
I turned towards the direction where James had passed through and walked on, trying to find him.
I finally found him and patted his shoulder lightly.
“Hey Samantha,” he said to me with a smile but I frowned deeply.
“What’s wrong? I did something wrong?” He asked.
“Why did you lie to Cassie that you are human?” I asked him and his face dropped, his gaze dropped to the floor for seconds before he raised his head to look at me.
“I just want to be with her,” he replied.
“By lying to her? I don’t think that makes any sense.” I said to him.
“Well, Cassie does not want to be involved in a relationship with a wolf. She does not want to be involved in the type of entanglements that arise when the mates show up,” he replied to me.
“What do you mean exactly?” I asked even though I understood already.
“Cassie does not want to be with a wolf, she believes a wolf might find his mate one day and then leave her but trust me I am not going to break her heart,” he explained.
“And how are you going to solve this when your mate shows up?” I asked him.
“I would reject her,” he replied and I pulled my lips into my mouth.
I knew what it felt like to be rejected by your mate after all that had happened to me recently and for James’s mate, it might be just worse.
“Are you considering the feelings of your mate whom you are going to reject?” I asked him.
“I thought you supported Cassie only,” he said.
“I need you to understand that the bond between mates is not an easy one.”
“I bet the bond between I and Cassie is stronger than the bond that even mates share,” he replied and I kind of really admired his courage to get into a relationship with Cassie.
“Listen, Samantha, I have been liking Cassie for a long time now when I saw her face when I went to see Alpha Kayden in the family mansion. I have loved her from that time, her coming here is nothing short of a blessing to me.” James added and I sighed.
“Promise not to break Cassie,” I demanded.
“I promise but you have to keep me being a wolf as a secret for now,” he demanded.
“Promise!”
