Samantha’s POV
“I hope so too,” I said to Cara optimistically.
“James, Cassie the both of you should stop gossiping about silly topics,” I grumbled to them.
“And James, you’ve got no work to do? We are cleaning the living room.” I said to him.
“I am not disturbing, am I Cassie?” He asked.
“Of course not,” Cassie replied to him with a smirk.
“Who is your friend here Cassie?” I asked with widened eyes.
“The both of you,” she replied.
“Bad friend.” I groaned playfully.
“Here! We are done cleaning.” Cassie said and I also stood straight.
“Let’s go and get dressed up and go to eat breakfast,” I said to Cassie.
The most exciting part was not the eating but the dressing up part, I just hoped that Alpha Kayden was still around.
“Sure, we would be back James,” Cassie said and James waved back at her with a smile.
“Cassie…” I drawled.
“Why call my name in that manner?” She asked.
“You and James… What’s going on?” I asked.
“Wh… What do you mean? Nothing is going on, he… He is just our friend.” she replied and I held her arm.
“Tell me, what’s starting to brew?” I asked Cassie.
“You are not telling me if anything is happening exactly between you and Alpha Kayden, so why should I tell you about this too?” She asked.
“You’re stingy with information,” I grumbled.
“And so are you,” she replied and we both let out small laughs.
I dressed up in clothing that seemed at least a bit homely, I did not want to exaggerate my dressing but still yet I could bet that I looked so damn good in this.
“How do I look?” I asked Cassie and she gave me two thumbs up.
“You are looking… Too beautiful!” She gasped and I swirled in front of the mirror.
We held hands and walked out to find the other maids cleaning and doing other chores.
“Seems like we woke up earlier than others,” Cassie said to me.
“I bet we did,” I replied and James waved at us.
We moved towards him, I stood by his right side while Cassie stood by his left side.
“Let’s go and have breakfast, I was waiting for you guys,” he said.
“Or you were waiting for Cassie?” I asked him and he ran his hands down his neck.
“I was waiting for the both of you,” he replied shyly.
“What are the three of you doing?” Alpha Kayden’s voice asked and I was glad that he was seeing me in my new clothing again.
“Good morning Alpha.” we all bowed and when I raised up my head slightly, he was staring at me intently.
“He likes me in this too!” I shrieked excitedly to Cara.
“I asked a question,” he said.
“We are going to have breakfast Alpha,” James replied.
“Breakfast together? You have no other things to do other than following girls around James?” He asked, his voice filled with venom.
“I would leave immediately Alpha,” James said and walked away.
Alpha Kayden looked at me again before walking out.
“He said nothing.” I sighed to Cara.
“But then he seemed mesmerized… He looked at me a couple of times.” I added, my voice more optimistic.
“It is just a matter of time before he finally accepts me,” I smirked.
“What are you smirking about?” Cassie asked and I shook my head.
“Nothing, absolutely nothing!” I replied to her and she gave me a look.
Kayden’s POV
I got into the car with a huff.
“A quick ride,” I ordered and the car sped off.
Why the heck should Mantha dress up so sexily and still yet stand by James? Does she think that she is so plain that no guy would ever try to look at her twice?
“Are you being jealous?” Jay asked and I looked out of the window.
“Of course not. I just don’t want her to be raped by some guys, she is too free with James.” I replied him.
“You would never accept the truth yourself,” Jay replied and I smacked my lips.
Last night was quite hectic, I spent the night arguing with Jay and I did not even have a nice sleep. I wondered if Mantha had an idea of what happened last night, it would not be so good if she remembers that I actually kissed her.
I got to my workplace and stepped out of the car. My PA as usual took the briefcase from me and I walked into the company, silence enveloped the company immediately before chorused of ‘good morning sir’ filled the air.
I walked on to my office, removed my suit and dropped it on my chair before settling down.
“Drop my briefcase and get me my cup of coffee,” I said to my PA.
“Yes sir,” he replied and exited the office.
I moved the files that were on my table for reviews and opened them up. In a few minutes, my coffee was here and I dismissed the PA.
I pointed out whatever needed to be corrected in the files and placed the perfect ones to de.
I was immersed in work when a knock came on the door.
“In.”
The door opened and Davis walked in.
“Good morning Alpha.” he greeted and I responded with a nod.
“What I told you to find out?” I requested and he placed a receipt in front of me.
“The family of the Alpha of the Shadow pack purchased the door the previous day to the attack,” he explained and I lifted the receipt.
“It makes sense but then the old door should be discarded right around the home, the attack was on a Monday, they could not have sent it to the incinerator on a Sunday or that very Monday, check out around the house for the door, I want to know what state the door was in that propelled the change of the door,” I said to him.
“Sure Alpha,” he replied.
“I would take my leave now,” he added and headed towards the door but then my mind wandered off to the mark on Mantha’s neck.
“One more thing,” I spoke out and Davis was back to my front in a few seconds.
I brought out my phone and sent him the picture.
“I sent you a picture, check out the meaning of the mark,” I said to him, dropping my phone.
“Alpha Kayden, may I ask who has the mark on? A lady you are interested in?” He asked with a playful smirk.
“Don’t ask me that, just go and carry out what I told you to. Find out whatever is behind that mark.” I said to him.
“Sure Alpha.”
