CHAPTER NINETY-SEVEN.
Adele and Jamal were driving home together that afternoon and they were pretty exhausted. Jamal worked all day after seeing his father and attending to the man he gave his business card to the previous night and Adele worked as well.
Neither of them were talking to each other and Adele was buried in her thoughts, but all her thinking came to an abrupt halt when they reached around the mansion premises.
The protection team cars that were ahead of then suddenly stopped for an unknown reason, Jamal immediately stepped on the brakes as well. Their car stopped in consequence. Jamal quickly reflexively looked at Adele, concerned and she naturally did the same thing as well, she looked at him.
“Are you ok?” He anxiously asked and she nodded.
The guards soon circled their car fully armed and then their leader, Sean, walked through them towards Jamal’s seat window. Jamal wound down his window glass to hear what he had to say.
“Danielle Owens is standing midway and blocking the street.” Sean reported and Adele rolled her eyes hard.
Daniel was blocking their way to the villa.
What the hell was she thinking?
Adele wondered in her mind as she felt anger boil in her veins. Adele was trying hard to not hate the girl so much, but she kept doing things that pushed Adele to hate her.
Jamal hastily unfastened his seatbelt and stepped out of the car, but before he had the time to bossily order Adele to stay in the car, She was already out there walking ahead of him to go and meet Danielle personally again!
Did she feel the even a bit scared and mindful of her
security? Absolutely not!
She was too angry to even think about anything!
She walked through the cars and guards didn’t dare to stand in her way until she finally reached the first car, and right in front of it, she saw Danielle Owens standing there, smiling.
Although her father was jailed and all her family went bankrupt overnight, Daniel still managed to put on an expensive dress and jewelry, and to apply her makeup impeccably.
Adele could bet even if the sky fell on earth that woman would still somehow manage to dress up for it!
So yes, Adele found a beauty standing in front of their team’s cars and blocking their way.
Adele didn’t know what she was doing standing there, she didn’t know why she was standing there of all places,
Even though the situation was that problematic and suspicious, she still didn’t care.
Without hesitating for even one second Adele walked straight towards Danielle. Moved by her anger, she stopped right in front of Danielle , raised her hand up in the sky then slapped her with all her might!
Adele was not a violent person. She never was, even in her childhood, she seldom fought with the children because she was always cowardly and scared of getting hurt.
But that woman deserved to be slapped!
Danielle looked at Adele as if a nerve had been unplugged inside her head. She definitely didn’t expect her to do that.
Suddenly, someone tightly hugged Adele from behind and fixed her arms so as not to move further.
It was Jamal.
She didn’t get to see his face, but she knew her husband’s scent and embrace.
“Go back to the car and wait for me. Please.” He calmly whispered in her ear.
“Is this how you treat me Jamal? I’m not worthy of meeting you anymore? I have to block your car like a
worthless woman just to see you?” Danielle suddenly shouted, interrupting them.
At least they understood why she was blocking the street.
“How could you do this to me, Jamal?”
She was looking directly and intensely at Jamal as if Adele could not be seen and as if her slap never happened.
In fact, Adele was never part of the scenery whenever Danielle met Jamal, she always had all her eyes on him.
“How could you?” She yelled again.
Jamal didn’t answer, he only remained protectively
hugging Adele back.
Although Danielle looked as beautiful as always, something seemed really broken and lacking in her.
After she yelled, she stopped talking and examined
both Adele and Jamal for a long time. And for the first time, she finally and truly put Adele in the picture and realised that Jamal was indeed, not hers. That he was someone else’s.
Her tears started to fall.
Unlike the past, it looked like she genuinely was crying.
With a shaking voice she added:
“I’ve always been around, I watched you grow up, I have always loved you. How could you pay me like this? It was fine when you asked my father to quit his job but how could you send him to jail and take over all our resources and fortune? You want to throw me to the street, you even dare threaten to send me a plane ticket and force me to leave the country and never return? How could you walk on me after all I did?”
She stubbornly wiped her tears and laughed while
crying bitterly.
“If it wasn’t for me you wouldn’t have been in this place and owning this mansion! If i haven’t warned you from
your own father then you would have remained
foolishly controlled by him and you wouldn’t have
achieved anything! You should be grateful for me all
your life! but what you did instead was to marry this lowlife! Then take everything from me!” She yelled at the top of her voice.
Once she finished speaking Jamal who was calm all
along, finally lost his patient temper. He let go of Adele and took calm and steady steps towards her.
“When you warned me about my father it wasn’t even
your idea to begin with, Danielle Owens, it was your
father’s suggestion and plan. You both profited from
turning tables and stabbing your own partner in the
back. Still I generously repaid you for what you did,
even risking my marriage in the process. As for my
personal choices I don’t find any need to explain them
to you. I am not obliged to make them suit your
taste. My wife is my personal choice and you shouldn’t
dare criticize. I have given you many chances in the
past, I’ve been forgiving all the chaos you caused to my family, but apparently, you overestimated my tolerance for your actions and you right now, you have crossed your limits. You dare to threaten the safety of my wife? You dare try to ruin my sister’s life?”
Jamal spoke and stepped even closer to her. Adele couldn’t see his face but she could see the utter fear in Danielle’s face.
“If I ever see you or hear of you again, the consequences won’t please you at all. Now go home, when I’m done deciding what I want to do to you, you will know!”
Once he finished speaking he ignored her like she was lower than nothing in his eyes. The cold back he
gave her made Adele feel sorry for her.
She had no idea what was going on, she had no idea what was going on most of the time.
“You can take her now.” Jamal ordered the guards and immediately, the confused, scared and broken Danielle Owens was dragged out of the way and pushed inside some car. As that unfolded, Jamal circled Adele’s shoulder and he dragged her towards their car again.
Adele looked at Danielle one last time. She knew she probably won’t see that woman ever again and in her heart, she couldn’t forgive her.
It wasn’t a bad thing to love someone, it wasn’t a bad thing to want to be loved by someone, but to hurt innocent people in the process was not only a bad thing but a shame as well.
Adele, who was Danielle’s victim, knew she would never forgive her for the damage she caused her.
Although both her forgiveness and unforgiveness meant
nothing to her, she was still going to harbor those
feelings to her grave.
Jamal kept dragging her back to their car paying a deaf ear to the crying woman he left behind. He opened her seat door then made her sit inside and fastened her seatbelt looking very impatient and displeased.
“Do you want to give me a heart attack Adele? How can you just simply walk out of the car in such a threatening situation when I clearly told you to be cautious? What if that woman had snipers hidden somewhere and they attacked you! How can you be so irresponsible!!” He scolded her loudly
Adele was not in the right set of mind to express any kind of reaction since she was still processing everything that had just happened.
She only blinked intermittently and nodded her head .
When he finished lecturing her, went back to his seat
and angrily drove the rest of the distance towards the
Mansion.
All along the way he didn’t close his mouth not even for
a second, he kept expressing his total displeasure with
Adele’s behavior.
She didn’t say a word because she wasn’t fully focused on his words. Her head was busy thinking of Danielle and the scenery outside the car was very distracting as well.
The mansion had literally turned into a military base!
It was surrounded by armed guards.
When their car parked in front of the interior gate, she noticed a few servants standing in a line and they were being inspected before they were allowed to go inside the mansion.
Watching such extreme measures and such changes in a matter of a few hours made Adele feel very clueless and uncomfortable.
“Adele please, don’t scare me again like that.” Jamal finally pleaded with desperate eyes.
“It was a mistake, I’ll be more careful in the future.” Adele nodded genuinely and promised:
“I know there are a lot of things happening all at once, but this situation will soon be settled, if you have any
question then ask me, I won’t conceal any fact from
you.”
“Okay.” She whispered. Jamal leaned close to her and planted a soft kiss on her forehead and whispered;
“I love you.”
