The rhythm of Pearl’s heart was very rapid. She was already lowering her standards as she stared at the coin purse in her hands. “B…. But why do you want it?” She raised her eyes to Olivia and requested.
The Queen will be as good as dead if she does not wear the ring on the night of the full moon. “Have no fear, Pearl; I have no plans to harm anybody. ”
Not even this Palace’s guards would be allowed to wear this ring. I’ll get it back to the Queen before we leave tomorrow morning on our horses. Trust me,” Olivia said, desperately attempting to quiet her guilt.
Pearl reexamined the rucksack for a moment before he glanced at Olivia. The two have been friends since childhood, so she knows she can trust her. She stuttered, “But… I can’t take it off her neck.” And it drove Olivia into thinking. “Um…. ”
“There should be something, Pearl. When she goes to bed, does she take it with her? “Inquired her.
“N…. No. “Truth be told, she usually takes it off after her nightly shower. And…. I guess she must’ve had her bath already”
“Perfect! Olivia then clapped her fists excitedly. In such case, you need to see her straight now! Hurry, Pearl. “She took the money from her, said, “I’ll keep this for you,” and began gently pushing her out of the room.
When Pearl saw Olivia standing between the two doors, she said, “Olivia.” “Are you sure about this? I don’t want to go into trouble”.
“You have my word. You’ll be fine” Olivia responded with a comforting grin and watched her depart.
There were two more maids alongside her. “Greetings, My Queen” she bowed in front of her. “Pearl, how’re you doing? ”
The Luna grinned at her.
“I’m doing fantastic Luna. I uh… just came over to see if you wanted me to do anything for you”. “Oh! That’s really considerate of you. But not to worry, I’m alright. I’m just about having my bath ” The Luna said gratefully.
She’s always been a cheery person and enjoyed Pearl in particular – particularly with the poignant narrative of how she was expelled from her pack.
That’s one reason Pearl couldn’t conceive of betraying her – ever.
She looked at her neck and saw she didn’t have the necklace on. That could only imply she’s done wearing it for the day and had dropped it in it’s customary box.
“If I need anything, I’ll be sure to let you know, Pearl” the Luna grinned at her and walked away, heading into the restroom with the other maids.
She trusted Pearl that much to leave simply her in her room. Goodness! Pearl sucked in a long breath and stared up at the ceiling. She genuinely didn’t want to do anything that’d threaten her Queen’s life – particularly when she’s been so wonderful to her.
Anyway, Olivia was never a type to go back on her words. She already promised it’d return to the Luna before dawn and maybe she should believe her. But, if she learns she’s attempting to play tricks on her and doesn’t return the ring before morning, then she’d disclose the full truth to the Queen – even if it necessitates her being punished as well.
With that decision, Pearl walked over to her wardrobe, opened it carefully and took out the necklace. And eventually, she went out of the room.
Olivia was so worried as she paced restlessly in the room. Her both hands on her waist and her ears at alert, waiting to hear a knock. What was taking her so long? She panicked. She wouldn’t be caught, right? At last, she heard the expected knock and ran to answer the door. Thank the gods, it was Pearl!
“You’re back”she murmured with beady eyes – her hands roaming all about her. Where was the necklace??
Pearl didn’t utter a thing as she made her way inside the room as Olivia shut the door behind her.
“Did you experience any problem?” She faced her and asked.
And softly, Pearl slipped out the jewelry from her dress.
“Hah! ” Olivia gasped, her eyes having some sparkles.
“You did it! You got it, Pearl! ” She smiled pleasantly and attempted taking it from her, but Pearl retreated.
“The Luna has been so lovely to me, Olivia, and I wouldn’t want to compensate her with wickedness. So, you need to assure me you’ll bring this ring to her again like you said” Pearl insisted.
The endeavor was no question, too inundating for her.
“Come on, Pearl” Olivia rolled her eyes. “If anything happens to the Luna, I’d also be implicated since I know you’ll absolutely expose me. And believe me, I have so many fantastic ideas for my life and wouldn’t want to put a stop to it at this time. ”
“So, you have nothing to worry about, Pearl. Now, let me have the necklace, please” she reached out her palm and unwillingly, Pearl offered the jewelry to her.
As soon as the chilly crystal reached Olivia’s hand, she grinned. Finally, it was in her hand. Oh, Ella….. A grumpy grin pierced through from her lip.
Ella felt so lonely and bored in the room that’d been allocated to her. She was looking blankly out the window as she stood and rested her elbows on the sill. She reflected on how different the Pack was from the Palace. It was smaller and looked great, but not large as planned.
Well, it should presumably be the difference between the Palace of the Alpha King, and the dwelling of an Alpha She was so bored and thought, if Diana had been there, she likely wouldn’t be feeling that way.
Shortly, she heared a knock on the door and retreated away from the window. Someone, I hope. Brows furrowed, she stepped towards the door and on opening it, saw the King’s beta, standing in front of her. Huh?
