The couple arrived at the location the following day.
It was already late autumn, and all the trees in the mountains had turned golden. When they walked through the forests, they could hear the chirps of birds.
Thea could smell the fragrance of the forest. She could also hear the rumbling of saws from a distance. Yet when she looked around, she couldn’t see anyone.
“This place is quite refreshing, isn’t it?” Thea stretched as she and Cody took a walk in the woods.
“I bet it looks even better when it is summer or spring,” Thea looked around.
This forest was not near anywhere. To make the shooting easier, the director sent some workers to erect a couple of tents for crew members.
So they could live in those tents when the shooting was delayed. So they didn’t need to drive back to the hotel when it was dark.
Cody and Thea just left their tent.
Thea could hear the crunch of dry leaves under her feet when she walked ahead of Cody. Cody caught up and held her hand.
Thea took out her phone and took a picture of her and Cody.
She was hesitant if she should send the picture or not. She had already edited the tweet. Yet she didn’t know if sending a picture of her and Cody in the forest would be considered a spoiler.
When Thea was hesitant, Cody suddenly called her. Thea looked up and accidentally pressed “send.”
She didn’t even know that as the whole internet went crazy about that picture.
Cody took her to walk through the forest.
He seemed to know this place very well. And soon, they walked to a giant house in the middle of the woods.
Thea was surprised by how gorgeous the house was.
“Let’s get in,” Cody put a hand on the small of her back as he led her to the door.
“But wait… Where is this place? I… Do you know the owner of the house?” Thea asked, feeling a bit nervous.
Cody smiled, “Of course. I knew him when I was still fighting the war. He’s a loyal friend. After the war was over, he just came back and lived in the middle of the woods. I told him last night that we were gonna visit. You don’t need to get nervous.”
No wonder Cody had been so happy when he got to know the location of the new shooting site.
This friend of Cody’s was a stocky man named Paul. He was so excited as he held the door open for them.
They were enjoying a lovely meal together when Cody suddenly turned to look at Paul with a serious look on his face.
“I actually have a favor to ask,” Cody’s tone was quite formal. Paul instantly sat straighter, “What can I help you, bro? You know I will do anything for you.”
“Do you remember the last time when I asked you to save Grace from those kidnappers?” Cody asked.
Thea’s mouth fell open. This man was the person who saved her mother? She didn’t even know him today.
“There’s still something tricky about the whole thing. I suspected someone just tried to manipulate something, but I don’t even have a clue. Would you mind investigating the whole thing for me? If you could find out the mastermind, I would be so thankful. But if you can’t, I hope you can also not be bothered by it,” Cody continued.
This case was so complicated that Linford didn’t even have a clue.
Paul had always been a loner. This kind of stuff would only be even more difficult for him. But Cody was eager to find out the truth.
He would try to use every force he could put his hands on.
Paul, however, seemed pretty confident about it, “I will try my best, Cody.”
Cody emphasized again, “Don’t push yourself, okay? It’s fine if you can’t find anything. I just could use an extra pair of hands right now.”
Paul smiled and nodded slightly.
Cody trusted this friend of his very much. Paul used to save his life once during the war. If Paul didn’t carry him back after he got shot, he would have died.
Thea and Cody stayed in Paul’s house until very late. Paul asked them to stay. But Cody said that Thea still had shootings to do tomorrow.
Paul thus didn’t hold them back. They agreed to meet again after the shooting was over. Paul said that he would summon a couple of their old friends then.
Thea and Cody thus strode back to their place after saying goodbye to Paul.
“Paul seemed like a great friend,” Thea exclaimed when they headed back.
Cody smiled, “He’s the best. Oh, by the way, it’s getting late. You really should go back to sleep the minute you go back.”
Before Thea could protest, her phone suddenly started to buzz.
Thea fished the phone out of her pocket and noticed that it was actually Mia. She instantly picked up, “Mia? What’s up?”
“You’re getting bolder now, big star?” Mia was giggling.
Thea was confused, “What do you mean?”
“That tweet,” Mia laughed, “I just saw that selfie of you and Cody. You two are looking good together.”
“No way!” Thea’s heart lurched to her throat horribly. She instantly checked out her Twitter. The selfie of her and Cody had already gotten millions of comments.
“Oh gosh!” Thea panicked. She couldn’t even breathe as she tried to explain, “I really didn’t mean to post that. I was hesitant, and then Cody just called me. Shoot! I must have pressed the send button accidentally.”
“Chill, dude,” Mia laughed, “Can’t you see? Everyone loves it. They knew you got married, but they didn’t know Cody was that good-looking. Your fans are happy for you. By the way, when are you gonna come back? We’re all missing you already.”
Thea smiled, “A couple of months from now on, probably. I promise you guys that I will be there when it is Christmas.”
Mia said seriously, “Well, you said that, Thea Todd. If you don’t come back, Mom’s gonna skin me. So, for your little sister’s security, make sure you book the flights ahead of time, okay?”
